Great card!!! Big win for Bobo, man I miss the Big Time Wrestling days from my youth. BTW, your avatar is wrong. Or why does The Strangler keep defending Boc's belt?

Thanks to Kevin and Dustin for the comments! BTW, Kevin, what post(s) were you reading?! January 11, 2010 Card #232: Tupelo Sports Arena1) “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan started the New Year off with a bang, pinning Virgil in less than a minute. Duggan pummeled Virgil and executed a spinning body slam to score the victory. Duggan let out a big “Hoooo!” to the Tupelo fans. DUD 2) Buff Bagwell and Chris Candido scored an impressive win over The Killer Bees. After some tagging in and out, Bagwell hit a neckbreaker on B. Brian Blair, then came off the second turnbuckle with the Buff Blockbuster. “Jumping” Jim Brunzell pulled Bagwell out of the ring as he went for the cover, and punched away at him, in a scene similar to their last match in December, with the roles reversed. Candido ran around the ring, grabbed Brunzell, and threw him into the guard rail. Bagwell was hurt, but came back into the ring. He managed to hit a second Blockbuster to score the pin. ¾* 3) The Hennigs defeated “Playboy” Buddy Rose and “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe. Rose and Curt started the match off. The “Playboy” wore Curt down with a half Boston Crab, but Curt got the ropes. Sharpe came in, but got nailed with a big running knee lift. Larry came in and pummeled Sharpe, hitting The Axe, but “Sensational” Sherri Martel distracted Paul Neighbors. Sharpe recovered and he and Rose double teamed Larry. Curt came back in and took it to Sharpe on the floor. Curt rolled back in, and Sharpe soon followed, but Curt immediately caught him and hit the Hennig Plex to score the pin. **½ 4) “The Russian Bear” Ivan Koloff made a successful debut, pinning S.D. Jones. The former WWF World Heavyweight champ brutalized “Philadelphia’s Favorite Son”. He hit a falling face slam for a near fall. Koloff came off the top rope again, this time with a double ax-handle, which put Jones down for the count. The Tupelo fans booed Koloff and berated him with “USA” chants, while Koloff held up the Russian flag. DUD 5) Ted DiBiase and Steve “Dr. Death” Williams scored a big tag team victory over The Dream Team. Greg “The Hammer” Valentine pounded away on DiBiase and hit a falling elbow drop in the early going for a near fall. Brutus Beefcake tagged in and worked over DiBiase, until he made a hot tag to Williams. Williams hit one German suplex on Beefcake, then held on and hit another, but in a smart move, Beefcake tagged out to Valentine before the second suplex. Williams and DiBiase kept Valentine in the ring, nailing a double football tackle on him. DiBiase executed a big power slam for a two-count. Williams came back in and showed his strength, nailing the Oklahoma Stampede. He covered Valentine, while DiBiase held off Beefcake and the fan favorites got the win! It will be interesting to see how The Dream Team fares next week when their new manager arrives in the USWA! **½ 6) “Tiger Man” John Pesek scored a big win, defeating former Southern champ Antonino “Argentina” Rocca. This was a battle of Pesek’s mat wrestling vs. Rocca’s high flying offense. Rocca missed a tackle into the corner early on, and was shaken up. Pesek used both the double wristlock and the Tiger Man Toehold, but Rocca made the ropes both times. Pesek busted Rocca’s nose open with some stiff forearm shots. Frank Morrell almost got knocked down when Rocca dodged a Pesek takedown. Rocca hit a reverse rolling cradle for a near fall. “Argentina” hit a beautiful flying head scissors and made a cover, but only got two. Rocca came off with a flying body press, but Pesek caught him and slammed him into the mat. Pesek locked on a lateral press keylock and forced Rocca to submit. The fans were more supporting Rocca, but gave Pesek a good ovation at his win. Rocca slowly got to his feet and offered his hand to Pesek. Pesek accepted and shook Rocca’s hand in a show of sportsmanship. **** 7) The Heavenly Bodies defeated Brad Armstrong and Cousin Luke. Armstrong was a house of fire, pounding away on “Sweet” Stan Lane. He tagged out to Luke and the hillbilly ran wild too, hitting two Hillbilly Drops. He made a cover, but Lane kicked out. Lane got Luke in his own corner and he and Dr. Tom Prichard double teamed Luke. Jim Cornette got involved too, holding Luke’s leg from the outside, out of view of Paul Neighbors’ sight. From then on The Bodies kept Luke in the ring, hitting a Flapjack and frequently tagging in and out. Prichard loaded his boot and kicked Luke right in the hand. In almost a mocking way, Prichard tagged out and allowed Lane to hit his superkick and score the pin. Armstrong helped Luke up and helped revive him, looking infuriated at The Bodies’ method of winning. **½ 8) Diamond Dallas Page scored a surprising win, pinning three-time former World champ Ed “Strangler” Lewis in about 15 seconds! The two fan favorites locked up, Page whipped Lewis into the ropes, and caught him with a boot to the stomach on the rebound. Lewis was bent over and Page nailed him with the Diamond Cutter to score the pin just like that. Page celebrated his impressive win with the fans, while Lewis looked very upset by getting caught off guard. DDP came back to the ring and shook Lewis’ hand, which Lewis accepted, but the “Strangler” still looked upset. neg* (NOTE: This match was over in TWO moves!) 9) Larry Zbyszko scored an impressive non-title win over Southern Heavyweight champ Johnny Valentine. The two slugged it out in the first minutes. Zbyszko took over after a big spin kick. He hit several piledrivers throughout the match, but Valentine would kick out. Bobby “The Brain” Heenan was wild at ringside, very eager for his man to beat The Heenan Family’s enemy. Zbyszko slammed Valentine’s head into the buckle several times, busting him open. It looked like he was trying to get the pad off, but Valentine would cut him off and fight back. Zbyszko managed to hit another piledriver and scored the big pin. Heenan was ecstatic about Larry’s win! ** 10) The main event saw Nick Bockwinkel put his USWA World Heavyweight title on the line for the first time in 2010 against one of his big rivals from ’09—The Crusher. Crusher was the referee about two weeks ago when Bockwinkel retained the gold against Johnny Valentine at New Year's Knockout VI, and now the two were once again opponents in the ring. Bockwinkel had the early advantage, trying to his superior wrestling skills to beat the brawler. He locked on the Bockwinkel Sleeper, but Crusher made the ropes. With the Tupelo fans behind him, Crusher came back after an out-of-the-ring brawl and hit the Crusher Bolo. He covered Bockwinkel, but the champ got a foot on the bottom rope. The bout went to the outside again. Bobby Heenan, sensing the champ was in trouble ran around the ring with the World title belt in hand. Crusher saw him coming from behind and nailed “The Weasel” with a forearm. He then grabbed the manager and the champ and gave the duo a big noggin knocker! He rolled back in the ring at eight, while Jerry Calhoun continued to count. Calhoun hit 10 and The Crusher was declared the winner. Crusher was happy by the win, but immediately realized that the belt was not to be his on this night! *¼

Big wins for DDP and Zbyszko to start the year! I'm thinking The Suicide Blonde may finally end Eaton's long reign as Texas Champ.

Thanks to Sickman, Tim, and Dustin for the comments!
Highlights from USWA Championship Wrestling on January 16: • Bill Apter interviewed “The Russian Bear” Ivan Koloff about his plans for the USWA. Koloff stated that his ultimate goal, like all wrestlers, is to become USWA World Heavyweight champion and be on top, like he was in the WWF. But also he has noted how Americans have become more and more of a disgrace and this is most evident in the wrestlers of the USWA. He wants to show that he can defeat the American wrestlers, and he isn’t coming alone. He said that he has spoken with wrestlers from other countries and he is planning on introducing more wrestlers to the USWA in 2010! • It was announced that as a result of his countout victory, The Crusher will get a rematch at Nick Bockwinkel for the USWA World Heavyweight title. The match will take place on February 8 at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis!
The USWA comes back to the Civic Coliseum in Knoxville on January 18! • The Dream Team will be in action and will be accompanied by their new manager! Greg “The Hammer” Valentine and Brutus Beefcake still haven’t revealed who their manager is, but they are very confident he will lead them to the USWA World Tag Team titles in 2010! • Larry Zbyszko will face Antonino “Argentina” Rocca in a rematch from New Year’s Knockout VI. Zbyszko is on a roll, defeating Rocca at NYK, and Southern Heavyweight champion Johnny Valentine on the last card. Can he keep it up and make it two-for-two against Rocca? • Speaking of Johnny Valentine, he will be in action against former USWA World Heavyweight champion “Playboy” Buddy Rose. You can bet Valentine is fired up after losing in his challenge for the World title at NYK VI, as well as losing to Zbyszko. But he better not underestimate the “Playboy”, who’s known for his share of big wins! • A tag team rivalry will continue in Knoxville, as Diamond Dallas Page and The Crusher will face The Hennigs! While Page and “Da” Crusher hold some great wins in ’10, they have yet to defeat The Heenan Family tag team, who seem to find a sneaky way (including sneak attacks!) to beat the popular duo. Who will win in Knoxville? • The main event will be for the USWA World Tag Team championship as “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant defend against The Heavenly Bodies. Jim Cornette is hoping to add more gold to his stable. “Sweet” Stan Lane and Dr. Tom Prichard have gotten a number of wins due to their double teaming tactics and rulebreaking. Can they win the gold or will the popular champions retain? All this plus Ted DiBiase, USWA Texas champion “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton, “The Russian Bear” Ivan Koloff, and more in action!

Thanks to Dennis for the comments!USWA BREAKING NEWS World Title to Be Defended in a Lumberjack Match! A big announcement was made during the sportscast on WMC-TV News by sports anchor “Big” Jack Eaton. It was announced on Sunday night, January 17 that the USWA World Heavyweight championship bout between Nick Bockwinkel and challenger The Crusher on February 8 at the Mid-South Coliseum will be fought in a Lumberjack Match! This will be the second Lumberjack Match in USWA history, and the first time a USWA championship will be defended under those rules. The USWA Committee felt this was necessary, since their last title meeting ended in a countout. Chairman Jerry Jarrett also reminded fans how many of the meetings between these two wrestlers have ended up in brawling outside the ring. As per the rules of the Lumberjack Match, eight wrestlers will be assigned outside the ring to serve as lumberjacks. Once a wrestler has been thrown out of the ring, or tries to leave the ring, it is the duty of the lumberjacks to throw the wrestler back into the ring. Each competitor in the match is allowed to choose four of the lumberjacks. Stay tuned to USWA Championship Wrestling in the coming weeks to see whom The Crusher and Nick Bockwinkel choose for this historic championship match!
