Independence Day Bash was incredible. A DQ finish in a main event is always unfortunate but Kevin Sullivan vs. The Patriot delivered action wise. Sullivan and the spike is a fearsome combination and Eddie Gilbert had no choice but to get involved. I'm really looking forward to Mad Dog Vachon challenging Sullivan for the world title. Good to see Ray Stevens retain his title as well.
The introduction of Mr. Hughes and the turn on Dan Severn by Cornette's men was brutal. Hughes vs. Severn has great potential. The Uptown Boys are looking sharp and are going to be a thorn in the side of the Heavenly Bodies as they take aim at the tag titles. I also enjoyed the wins for Harley Race, Adrian Street, Bill Dundee and "The Milkman" & "The Sodbuster" underneath.

Thanks to Victory Roll and Crue Fan for the comments!
July 17, 2017 Card #513: Rupp Arena in Lexington
1) George South and Tony Boyles out of Arkansas scored a surprising win over Jake “The Milkman” Milliman and “Sodbuster” Kenny Jay in the opener. After winning their first two matches, fans expected the fan favorites to win again against the first-time team of South and Boyles. Milliman had early offense and tagged to Jay. The “Sodbuster” executed a front headlock roll-up but South blocked a double forearm clap a moment later. South took over and quickly hit a dropkick on Jay. Jay landed near South and Boyles’ corner. South made a cover and Boyles held on to Jay’s feet from the outside. Paul Morton did not see this but the fans did and they were outraged! South scored the pinfall before Boyles could tag into the match! Milliman had attempted a save but arrived late. South and Boyles seemed just as surprised after their four-minute win! ¼* (NOTE: For those who don’t know, I use the Mister X card as several different enhancement talents from the Memphis territorial days. Even though he didn’t actually wrestle in this match, this was the second time the card has been on the winning team in a match!)
2) “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce made quick work of “The Unpredictable” Johnny Rodz. Pearce was accompanied by his manager Jim Cornette and Cornette’s new bodyguard Mr. Hughes! Rodz had some offense against Pearce but Pearce took over. He hit a vertical suplex for a near fall but then got the pinfall after two minutes with the jumping piledriver. Pearce looks ready to tangle with Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana! DUD
3) “Classy” Freddie Blassie scored a tainted pinfall win on Hillbilly Jim. Jim was hoping to keep his momentum going off of his big win last month in Memphis of King Kong Bundy. The hillbilly had some early control but the two-time former Southern champion took control. He bit Jim a few times but Jim rallied back. The action spilled to the floor and Jim tossed Blassie back into the ring. “The King of Men” got to his feet and as Jim stepped over the top rope, Blassie kicked the rope causing Jim to get crotched and tangled. He pulled Jim out of the ropes, rolled him into a small package, and scored the pinfall after about four minutes. Both men will be in the ring again next week at the Nashville Fairgrounds, as they fight for a Southern title shot against “Exotic” Adrian Street that same night! *½
4) Ivan Koloff and Mr. Saito got a hard-fought win over S.D. and S.T. Jones after 15 minutes of action. The House of Humperdink team double teamed “Special Delivery” for the first six minutes of the match. Saito tried for the Scorpion Leglock but Jones got to the ropes before the Japanese Olympian could lock it on fully. Saito came off the middle rope with two knee drops and made a cover but “Philadelphia’s Favorite Son” kicked it out. “The Russian Bear” tagged back in and hit his own knee drop, this one off the top rope. He covered S.D. but again S.D. kicked out. “Special Delivery” dodged a flying charge from Koloff and Koloff hit the turnbuckles hard. He finally made the hot tag to “Soul Train.” The Lexington fans erupted as S.T. came in the ring. He ran wild on Koloff with boxing punches and hit an impressive atomic drop for a near fall. He surprised “The Russian Bear” with a Russian leg sweep for another two-count. S.D. tagged back in and blasted Koloff with two head butts. He knocked Koloff down and pounced on him for a cover. Saito made the save. The Joneses maintained control for a few minutes until Koloff managed to get to the House of Humperdink’s corner and tag Saito. Saito hit a judo throw on “Soul Train” and took control. S.D. tagged back in but Saito took over on him as well. He tagged Koloff again and Koloff hit a falling face slam on “Special Delivery.” Rather than go for the cover, Koloff picked up S.D., whipped him into the ropes, and blasted him with Russian Sickle. He covered S.D. and scored the pinfall, while Saito stopped S.T. from a save. The House of Humperdink team remained undefeated! ***
5) Doctor X scored a submission victory over “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas. The masked man spent much of the much trying to work the powerhouse’s leg and get him down on the mat. Atlas tried to rally back with the fans on his side. He hit a vertical suplex midway through the match for a near fall. X battled back and tried to score a submission with a full nelson but Atlas powered out of the hold. X continued the onslaught on the leg. He tried for a pin with a bridging back suplex, which is how he pinned Atlas in the six-man tag team match last month in Memphis (assisted by his feet on the ropes). Atlas kicked out but X attacked the leg again and locked on the figure-four leglock in the center of the ring. Atlas was trapped and forced to tap after 16 minutes of action. The masked man looked impressive tonight, prior to his bout with fellow masked man the Patriot next week in Nashville! **¾
6) Three-time former Southern Heavyweight champion “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert had his first singles match in nearly a year, as he pinned “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe after 10 minutes of action. The N!ew Jerseyan put up a fight against Gilbert but Gilbert rallied back. After a brawl outside the ring, Gilbert took the action back inside and hit a DDT on Sharpe to score the pinfall. Even though Gilbert is from Lexington, TN not Lexington, KY, these Lexington fans gave him a big ovation, as he looks forward to a huge battle with the Dark Patriot next week at the Nashville Fairgrounds! **
7) Tyler Black made short work of Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana. Black charged Cabana right at the bell, before he could take off his headband and ring jacket. Cabana just couldn’t rally back tonight, as Black was extra aggressive. Black hit the Phoenix Splash just two minutes into the bout but didn’t get the full impact he usually does, so the Chicago native kicked out. Black hit an enzuigiri and later a buckle bomb for near falls as well. He knocked Cabana outside of the ring. Black distracted Paul Morton, which allowed Luke Harper to clothesline the host of The Art of Wrestling outside the ring. Harper then tossed Cabana back into the ring where Black continued his onslaught. He executed Paroxysm for another near fall. Black blasted Cabana with a superkick and then gloated about hitting the move. Cabana got to his feet but was hit with a second superkick. Black covered him and scored the pinfall in about six minutes. It was an impressive win for Black, who will need to demonstrate that same level of aggression in next week’s Battle Royal for the shot at “Exotic” Adrian Street’s Southern title in the main event the same night at the Nashville Fairgrounds. Cabana will also be a part of that Battle Royal and you can bet, he will have his eyes on Black! DUD
8) Harley Race rallied back from a tough challenge and defeated Red Bastien by countout after 18 minutes of physical action. The former Texas champion Bastien was very close to giving Race his first loss since his return to the USWA in March. Race blocked the atomic drop a few minutes into the bout but Bastien caught him in a sleeper. Race started to drop but got to the ropes for a break. Bastien hit a flying head scissors a moment later and went for a pin attempt but Race kicked out. Bastien successfully executed the airplane spin into the atomic drop. When he hit the atomic drop, Race went flying head-first into the top turnbuckle and came up busted open. He dropped to the mat and Bastien went for a cover. “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart jumped up on the ring apron and distracted Joe Wheler. Bastien was irate and went after the manager. The distraction allowed Race to recover and he cut Bastien off outside the ring. He tossed Bastien back inside and maintained control for several minutes. He whipped Bastien into the ropes and blasted him with a jumping knee smash, which knocked Bastien backward right into Wheeler. Wheeler was down and hurt and didn’t see Hart toss his megaphone to Race. As Bastien checked on Wheeler, Race clocked him from behind. He then hit the piledriver and the vertical suplex twice for good measure but couldn’t try for a pin with no referee. Race hit a knee drop on Bastien and now he was bleeding as well. Bastien rallied back, as Scott Bowden ran down to the ring to take over officiating, while other USWA officials helped Wheeler to the back. Bastien missed a dropkick and Race hit a swinging neckbreaker. Race then tossed Bastien out of the ring and hit the suplex on the floor. Then he crawled up to the ring apron and hit the diving head butt to the floor! He rolled back into the ring, while Bowden continued his count. Bastien was out and Bowden awarded the bout to Race via countout! As Race and Hart returned to the locker room, Billy Red Lyons and “Superstar” Bill Dundee came down to the ringside area and checked on Bastien. Bastien came to and was able to walk to the back with Lyons’ aid. (Dundee stayed at ringside since his match was up next.) ****
9) Dundee ended up coming out the winner against his rival Mad Dog Vachon via disqualification in another competitive match. Vachon started off very aggressively against his Aussie opponent, wanting to get a decisive win, especially as he looks forward to his World Heavyweight title match with “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan on August 7 in Knoxville. He hit the piledriver just a few minutes into the bout but Dundee kicked out. He followed up with a Mad Dog Pounce and continued the attack. He executed a backbreaker and went for a cover but again the Australian “Superstar” kicked out. Dundee briefly took over in a brawl outside the ring but the action was back-and-forth for several minutes until Vachon tossed Dundee into the ropes and went for a haymaker. Dundee ducked, got behind Vachon, and caught the Algerian brawler in a sleeper. The fans went wild as Dundee held the sleeper on for 90 seconds until Vachon finally managed to grab the middle rope for a break. Dundee stayed on the offensive and got Vachon down on the mat before hitting a running big splash. He covered Vachon but only got a two-count. Dundee stomped away on Vachon’s right leg and then applied an Indian Deathlock. Vachon was in trouble but broke the hold by reaching up and raking Dundee’s eyes. Vachon stumbled to his feet with a wounded leg. Dundee jumped on him with another sleeper. The pain of the leg and the fatigue of the match appeared to be catching up with Mad Dog. He had enough wherewithal to go towards the rope and roll between the ropes with Dundee still on his back, causing both men to crash to the arena floor. Dundee took the worst of the fall and Vachon recovered first. He grabbed a steel chair from the ringside area. Scott Bowden stopped his own 10-count and got in Vachon’s face, warning him not to do it. Vachon shoved the referee down and then struck Dundee in his previously-injured knee with the chair. Bowden immediately called for the bell after 16 minutes of wild action and disqualified Vachon. Vachon struck twice more. His ally Doctor X, recovered from his win earlier on the card, made his way to ringside to join in the attack. Before he could he was nailed from behind with a dropkick by his former World Tag Team championship partner Billy Red Lyons! Lyons then ran down to ringside and dropkicked the chair into Vachon’s face! The crowd went wild as Vachon and X retreated to the back. Lyons checked on Dundee and helped the “Superstar” to the back. ***¾
10) The main event was for the USWA World Tag Team titles. The champions The Heavenly Bodies, accompanied by their manager Jim Cornette and his new bodyguard Mr. Hughes, put the titles on the line against two-time former champions Steve “Dr. Death” Williams and Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy. It was Cornette’s men who cost Williams and Gordy the titles back in April in Nashville to the Midnight Express before the Bodies beat the Midnights for the same belts a few weeks later and sent them out of the USWA for a year at Derby City Stampede.
Williams and Tom Prichard started off the bouts for their respective teams. Williams had some strong, explosive offense but Prichard capitalized on a mistake and trapped Williams in the champions’ corner. Chris Candido tagged in-and-out and double teamed “Doc” for a few minutes. Prichard blasted Williams with the enzuigiri but only scored a two-count. Williams managed to make the tag to Gordy, who ran wild on Dr. Tom. Prichard managed to tag Candido but Gordy pummeled him as well. He got the advantage and tagged back to Williams. The Oklahoma Sooner set up Candido on the top rope for a superplex. Before he could execute the move, Prichard ran over to the corner and snapped Williams’ neck on the top rope. Candido got off the top rope and tagged Prichard in from their corner. Prichard immediately went for a cover but “Dr. Death” kicked out. The Bodies double teamed Williams for a few more minutes, including executing a Flapjack. Williams briefly took over on Prichard and sent him into the buckles. He went for a charge but Prichard dodged the attack and Williams hit the ring post hard. While Cornette distracted Paul Morton, Hughes ran over and nailed Williams with a big right hand with his black glove and busted open Williams. Gordy saw this and ran over to Hughes. Hughes was ready for him and punched him as well, before delivering an impressive spike slam on the arena floor! Back in the ring, Prichard tagged to Candido, who worked over Williams before tagging Prichard again. The Bodies executed the Prima Donna Plunge and scored the pinfall after 12 minutes to retain the World Tag Team titles. Cornette’s duo continues to work well together and his newest bodyguard could become the difference maker for his men! ***

Thanks to Troy and Victory Roll for the comments!
Highlights of USWA Championship Wrestling from 7-22: • Commissioner Bob Armstrong had some huge matches to announce for the coming weeks! First of all, he added some matches to the August 7 card at the Civic Coliseum in Knoxville: o In a rematch from the main event of New Year’s Knockout XIII, “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant will take on “Classy” Freddie Blassie! Valiant retained the World Heavyweight title against Blassie on December 31 in the Louisville Gardens when Blassie was holding the Southern Heavyweight title. Both men are looking to get back on track after losing their respective titles. Valiant was interviewed in the studio and his unique voice is starting to return to full strength after the attack from Kevin Sullivan back in March and was fired up for this match, stating that he has beaten Blassie once before and with the “street people” by his side, he can do it again! o A special attraction from BTW will take place on week before the combined USWA-BTW card in Findlay. The BTW United States Heavyweight champion and three-time former USWA Southern Heavyweight champion The Sheik will team up his ally “The Wild Bull of The Pampas” Pampero Firpo to take on the father-son team of Angelo and Lanny Poffo! Angelo, of course, will be challenging the Sheik for his title in the co-main event of the Findlay card on the 14th. He and his son “Leaping” Lanny are hoping to get a win and get some momentum against Abdullah Farouk’s dastardly team. The wild Argentine Firpo has served as sort of a henchman for Sheik and Farouk this past year in BTW, trying to injured many of the Syrian madman’s top challengers for the U.S. title. o The reunion of The Flying Redheads will take place on this card! o A first-time tag team match up will occur, when Steve “Dr. Death” Williams and Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy will battle the undefeated House of Humperdink team of Ivan Koloff and Mr. Saito! “The Russian Bear” and the Japanese Olympian have proven to be a dominant team and would love to earn a shot at the World Tag Team titles and bring more gold to the House of Humperdink. Two-time former champions Williams and Gordy would love to get another shot at the gold, especially after losing a tough battle to the Heavenly Bodies last week in Lexington.
• The commissioner also announced more matches for the August 14 card in Findlay that he and BTW Promoter Ed Farhat have agreed to hold! o Loyal fans remember the ***** match last year between the Tolos Brothers and the then-BTW World Tag Team champions the Fabulous Kangaroos that saw the Toloses lose a close bout. John and Chris Tolos will be in action again, taking on the popular duo of Bobby Fulton and “Flying” Fred Curry! Fulton and Curry will take on the Uptown Boys the week before in Knoxville. This match will definitely earn the winners consideration for a shot at the BTW World Tag Team titles, currently held by the Love Brothers—Reginald and Hartford Love! o “Wild” Bull Curry, father of “Flying” Fred, has been on the previous two USWA-BTW cards. The wild brawler will be back again, taking on Lima, OH’s own Al Snow! Snow is a trained martial artist from 30 miles south of Findlay. He has been around BTW and other promotions for many years and has pulled off big upsets. Could this be a huge win for his career? o Pampero Firpo will do battle with “Leaping” Lanny Poffo, one-on-one! It will be the high-flying Poffo against the brawling and El Garfio of the Argentine! o A long-time feud in the Midwest will resume in the USWA, as Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana will battle “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce for the first time in a USWA ring! Jim Cornette brought in Pearce to do battle with Cabana, who has been causing his men headaches since they injured “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson. Who will win the latest chapter in this storied feud?
• It was announced that “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas has decided to leave the USWA and return to Georgia Championship Wrestling (GCW) for the time being. “Superstar” Bill Dundee said that Atlas thanked the fans for their support and that he had a great tenure in the USWA!
The USWA makes its annual stop at the Nashville Fairgrounds on July 24! • Ivan Koloff and Mr. Saito will take on Brad and Brian Armstrong! The Armstrongs are a tough duo and could be the first ones to defeat Sir Oliver Humperdink’s team. Can they do it or will “The Russian Bear” and the Japanese Olympian continue their winning ways? • Tommy Gilbert will have a tough opponent in his way when he faces Luke Harper! Give the Gilbert patriarch credit for not taking it easy before he challenges Ray “The Crippler” Stevens for the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight title on August 14 in Findlay. He will take on a former Mid-America champion in the powerful bodyguard Harper. Can Gilbert put down the big Nebraskan? • Two masked grapplers will collide, when The Patriot faces Doctor X. The Patriot hopes to get back on track after his heartbreaking disqualification loss to “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan in the World title main event at Independence Day Bash in Bowling Green. X is a former Southern Heavyweight and two-time World Tag Team champion and can outwrestle and out-cheat any style of competitor. Who will win this battle of masked wrestlers? • Two-time former World Heavyweight champion “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant will take on Mad Dog Vachon! Vachon earned his title shot on August 7 with a pinfall over then-champion Valiant back in April in Jonesboro. Valiant has also become embroiled in his ally “Superstar” Bill Dundee’s wars with Mad Dog Vachon and his allies. The Algerian would love to get another win over “The Boy from New York City” prior to his World title bout on the 7th. Can he defeat “Boogie Woogie” or will Valiant triumph over Mad Dog? • Three-time former Southern Heavyweight champion “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert will do battle with The Dark Patriot for the first time! Gilbert has joined the Patriot and his father Tommy in their mission of wanting to unmask the Dark Patriot and reveal his true identity. While Tommy has gotten wins over the “bogus” Patriot, he has been unable to get the mask off of him. Will Eddie succeed or will the Dark Patriot launch a Scud Missile? • The main event will be for the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship. Current champion “Exotic” Adrian Street will defend the title. His challenger will be…determined in a 10-man Battle Royal that will open the card! Street and Jim Cornette, flanked by Mr. Hughes, were interviewed on Championship Wrestling. Cornette said that he tried to get the Battle Royal scheduled immediately before the main event but Commissioner Armstrong wasn’t having it! Street interjected that all 10 competitors are not as “gorgeous” as he and none can wear “his” belt with as much style and pride! He said that whoever wins the Battle Royal won’t defeat him, no matter how much rest he gets! Here is an analysis of those 10 competitors:
o Billy Gunn: A three-time former World Tag Team champion, Gunn challenged Street for the title back in February in Knoxville. He would love to get another title shot and win his first singles title. His combination of power and speed could make the difference! o Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana: The Chicago native would love to get his first USWA title shot. His knowledge of many styles of wrestling and unorthodox offense could benefit him. He was in the final four at the New Year’s Knockout XIII Battle Royal and would love to battle the “Exotic One” again! o Red Bastien: A former World Tag Team and Texas champion, Bastien has gotten huge singles wins in the past, including a countout win over Street in a title match in May in Evansville. He has done well in USWA Battle Royals in the past, including being the last one eliminated at New Year’s Knockout XIII. o “Superstar” Bill Dundee: The popular Aussie would love to win his first USWA championship. His toughness and brawling skills could lead to a win at the Nashville Fairgrounds! o Hillbilly Jim: The big man from Mud Lick got a big upset win over King Kong Bundy last month in Memphis. His size and power could play a factor in the Battle Royal setting, against more technically-skilled competitors. o “Classy” Freddie Blassie: A two-time former Southern Heavyweight champion, Blassie’s historic reign came to an end, thanks to Street back in January in Chattanooga. He has yet to win back the title. His vicious nature and lone wolf stature will definitely play in his favor in a Battle Royal! o King Kong Bundy: A former World Tag Team champion, Bundy won the most recent Battle Royal, at New Year’s Knockout XIII in Louisville. While his size and power came into play, having First Family of Wrestling allies in the match with him will definitely play in his favor. o Mid-America Heavyweight champion Ray “The Crippler” Stevens: The three-time current champion and two-time former World Tag Team champion, Stevens has been an impressive Mid-America champion and wants to add another title to his list of accolades. His blend of wrestling and brawling will definitely topple many opponents! o Bobby Shane: The third First Family of Wrestling member in this match, Shane challenged for the Southern title against Blassie last September in Springfield. His rulebreaking will definitely aid him in this setting. What will happen if it comes down to the three First Family members? o Tyler Black: The high-flying, spectacular Iowan hasn’t yet captured the Mid-America title and now hopes to get the Southern gold. He has a few rivals in this match, including Gunn, Cabana, and Stevens and could be a target for elimination.
Dave Brown reviewed the rules of the Battle Royal on Championship Wrestling: I. All the participants start in the ring at the same time. II. No managers, valets, or other non-participants are allowed at ringside during the match. III. Two referees will be stationed outside the ring during this bout to determine when a wrestler is eliminated. IV. There are no disqualifications, countouts, pinfalls or submissions in this match. The only way a wrestler is eliminated is by being thrown over the top rope to the floor. Both of the wrestler’s feet must touch the floor. The last wrestler left will be the winner. Who will win against nine other opponents and challenge the “Exotic One” for the top prize of the South in the main event?
All these bouts, plus The Uptown Boys, “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce, and more USWA stars in action at the Nashville Fairgrounds!

My vote is for Hillbilly Jim to win the battle royale and face off versus the Exotic One for his Southern Title belt! Loving the use of the Big Time Wrestling stars here it's going to be a FUN card. Great write-ups

Sad to see Tony Atlas go though I'm sure he will flourish in Georgia. Very excited for the Big Time Wrestling stars coming in for some appearances. The USWA continues to be one of my all-time favorite feds on the board.

Thanks to Victory Roll, Troy, and Crue Fan for the comments!
I look forward to seeing a lot of you in Waterloo very soon!
July 24, 2017 Card #514: Nashville Fairgrounds
1) The card started off with a bang, with a 10-man Battle Royal to determine who would challenge “Exotic” Adrian Street in the main event for the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship. King Kong Bundy ended up winning his second Battle Royal! Before the 10 participants were introduced, Street came out to ringside, accompanied by Jim Cornette and Mr. Hughes! Street and Cornette sat at ringside with Lance Russell and Dave Brown at the announcers’ table, while Hughes stood behind them. Cornette put on a headset and to commentate with Lance and Dave. Bundy scored the first elimination, as he, Ray “The Crippler” Stevens, and Bobby Shane triple teamed Billy Gunn. Stevens and Shane whipped Gunn into the corner, where Bundy delivered two Atlantic City Avalanches. Gunn was weakened and easy prey to be eliminated about three minutes into the match after a beating from the First Family of Wrestling.
“Superstar” Bill Dundee was out next after a skirmish with “Classy” Freddie Blassie. The two slugged it out until Blassie weakened Dundee with a stomach claw near the ropes and then tossed him over the top and to the Nashville Fairgrounds floor!
Hillbilly Jim had control against Shane but was ambushed by Bundy and Stevens. The two held Jim up, while Shane nailed him with a dropkick, which sent the big man over the ropes and out of the match.
Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana had his sights set on Tyler Black from the opening bell, after Black ambushed him at the start of their singles bout last week in Lexington. The two Midwesterners slugged it out for a few minutes, until Cabana grabbed both of Black’s legs and catapulted him over the top rope and out of the ring in spectacular fashion!
Shane went out next, trying to save his ally Stevens. Red Bastien had “The Crippler” in trouble near the ropes. Shane came charging at Bastien from behind with a double sledge but Bastien saw him coming and back dropped Shane over the top rope and to the floor!
Bastien did succeed in eliminating the Mid-America champion. After the two slugged it out for several minutes, Bastien executed the airplane spin into the atomic drop. The move sent Stevens into the ropes, over the ropes, and out of the match!
Bundy jumped Bastien from behind, trying to save “The Crippler” but coming up short. With the bout down to four: Bundy, Blassie, Bastien, and Cabana, alliances started to form, with Bastien and Cabana pairing off against Bundy and Blassie. Blassie worked over Cabana and got him down on the mat, while Bundy bear hugged Bastien and drove him into the corner. Blassie then went over and held Bastien from the apron (having gone through the ropes, not over the ropes), while Bundy delivered two Avalanches. Blassie pulled Bastien out of the corner and continued to hold him against the ropes. Cabana attempted a save but Bundy dodged him and sent him crashing into Bastien. Blassie ducked out of the way as Cabana’s momentum sent Bastien out of the match.
It was down to three, with “Boom Boom” against Bundy and “The King of Men.” Bundy and Blassie continued their alliance and it paid off as they double teamed Cabana before Bundy lifted him up in a body slam position and threw him over the top.
It was down to Blassie and Bundy. The fans slightly favored “Classy” Freddie in this one but Bundy’s power prevailed as he slammed Blassie into the buckles out of a bear hug and then tossed him over the top. After the bell, “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart came out to the ring to celebrate Bundy’s victory. Hart grabbed the microphone from Gary Michael Cappetta and said that he has a lot of respect for fellow manager Cornette and that tonight’s main event would be the first battle of a First Family of Wrestling member against a Cornette wrestler. He said that “Exotic” Adrian is a good singer but Bundy would take the Southern title from him tonight, while looking right down at Street and Cornette! Cornette and Hughes entered the ring, while Street stood on the apron. Cornette took the mic and said that he thinks Hart is the “second best manager” in wrestling today and he has a lot of respect for a man from the South but that Street would show that he can defeat any wrestler of any size! **½
2) “Dastardly” Danny Doring and The Amish RoadKill picked up a win over Jake “The Milkman” Milliman and “Sodbuster” Kenny Jay in about six minutes. Doring and Milliman started off the bout for their respective teams. After exchanging control, Milliman tagged Jay. Doring whipped Jay into the corner and charged in with an elbow. Jay moved out of the way and Doring crashed into the corner. Jay caught him on the rebound with a front facelock roll-up. Jay whipped Doring into the ropes but telegraphed a back body drop attempt and Doring caught him with a boot to the face. He then hit a Bareback to keep control. Doring tagged “The Angry Amish Warrior” and the rulebreakers hit the Buggy Bang. Milliman broke up the pin attempt but Doring responded by superkicking him and then tossing him out of the ring. RoadKill hit a Barn Burner and went for a cover but Jay got his shoulder up. The chicken plucker tagged Doring again and the duo hit a Lancaster Lariat of Lust. Doring made a cover and scored the pinfall. *½
3) “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce scored a pinfall on “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon. Pearce was aggressive against the PBR drinker from the opening bell, not giving him a chance to get out of the blocks. Pearce hit a hangman’s neckbreaker and then the jumping piledriver to score the pinfall in about 2½ minutes. Jim Cornette’s newest charge continues to impress, as he looks forward to reigniting his feud with Colt Cabana in three weeks in Findlay, OH! DUD
4) Ivan Koloff and Mr. Saito barely pulled off a win over Brad and Brian Armstrong after 50 minutes of hard-hitting tag team action! The House of Humperdink double teamed “The Road Dogg” for the first few minutes, including using Koloff’s chain in the corner, while Sir Oliver Humperdink distracted Tom Branch. Saito hit the Saito suplex a few minutes into the match but Brian kicked out. Saito tried to get a submission with the Prison Deathlock but Brian made the ropes. Koloff tagged in and went for an elbow drop but Brian rolled out of the way and made the hot tag to Brad. Brad ran wild on “The Russian Bear” and tagged back to Brian. The Armstrongs double teamed the former USWA World champion for several minutes. Koloff tagged Saito again and he trapped Brian in the corner. He busted him open with some punches. Later in the bout, Koloff and Brad were the legal men when Koloff hit the Russian Sickle. Rather than go for the pin, the House of Humperdink team chose to punish Brad, as Koloff tagged Saito who applied the Prison Deathlock again. Brad was trapped for nearly a minute but with the fans and his brother rooting him on, he made the ropes. The Armstrongs rallied back, as Brian surprised Koloff with a DDT for a two-count. Later, the hit a double team Hot Shot on the Japanese Olympian and then “The Road Dogg” hit the pump handle slam. He covered Saito but Saito kicked out at 2¾. Brad tagged back and drove Saito’s face into the mat with a two-handed bulldog and drew blood on Saito. Later in the bout, Brian had control of Koloff and set up for the pump handle slam but Saito jumped in and stopped the attempt. The bout was back-and-forth but the Armstrongs gained momentum near the end and looked they would be the first team to defeat Koloff and Saito. Brian was the legal man and had control of “The Russian Bear.” Humperdink came over to his team’s corner and handed Saito his cane. Saito started to enter the ring but so did Brad. Branch saw Brad first and warned him back to the Armstrongs’ corner. Brian went up to the top rope but before he could leap, Saito struck him in the ribs with the cane. Brian fell to the mat and Koloff covered him, while Saito returned to their corner and handed Humperdink back the cane. Branch turned around and counted the pinfall before Brad could realize what had transpired! The fans were outraged by this tainted ending after an amazing tag team bout! The House of Humperdink team is now at 9-0 overall and they continue to dominate the tag team division in the USWA! *****
5) Tommy Gilbert picked up a huge win over former Mid-America Heavyweight champion Luke Harper. Harper tried to use his size and power advantage at start to bully Gilbert around but Gilbert would have none of it. He used a combination of brawling and wrestling to wear down the big Nebraskan. Gilbert had Harper dazed and hit the running knee lift to score the pinfall after four minutes! “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert celebrated with his father after the bout and the Nashville fans gave the Gilberts a big pop for Tommy’s win! He looked impressive as he looks forward to his first USWA title shot, when he takes on Ray “The Crippler” Stevens for the Mid-America Heavyweight title in “Flag City, USA” on August 14! *
6) The Uptown Boys remained undefeated “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe and “The Unpredictable” Johnny Rodz after 10 minutes of action. Tommy Rogers and Marty Jannetty double teamed the New Jerseyan Sharpe for the first few minutes. Sharpe capitalized on a mistake by Jannetty and tagged to Rodz. The New Yorker hit an Unpredictable Slam on Jannetty. Rodz maintained control briefly and whipped Jannetty into the ropes. He went for a clothesline but Jannetty ducked, bounced off the opposite ropes, and came back at Rodz with a crossbody block. Rogers tagged in again and went up top. He came off with a flying body press. Rodz rolled through and came up on top. He hooked the leg and went for a pin attempt but Rogers kicked out at two. Rogers regained control and the Uptown Boys kept Rodz in the ring for the rest of the match. Rodz put up a fight but eventually went down to Jannetty’s Rocker Dropper, while Rogers stopped an intervening Sharpe with a dropkick. The Uptown Boys continue to impress. Will they be the new World Tag Team champions? Find out on August 14 in Findlay, OH! **½
7) Doctor X made a comeback and defeated The Patriot in a match-up of two masked men. The Patriot was sporting a bandage over one eye under his mask, from the World champion Kevin Sullivan’s golden spike at Independence Day Bash. The altered vision affected him at times but he was able to score near falls on the former Southern champion. Patriot attempted the Patriot Missile but took his time in launching the move due to the impacted vision. He finally leapt but X dodged the attack and Patriot hit the mat, landing on his knee. X went right to work and locked on the figure-four leglock. Patriot fought hard for over a minute but finally passed out due to the pain. His shoulders were down on the mat and Tom Branch counted him down for a pinfall. It was an impressive win for the Doctor after 10 minutes! **¾
8) Mad Dog Vachon scored another pinfall on “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant after 14 minutes of physical action. Vachon attacked Valiant right away and executed an airplane spin. He went for the pin about 20 seconds into the match but Valiant kicked out at two. “The Boy from New York City” battled back and blasted the Algerian brawler with roundhouse punches. He knocked Vachon down and went for a pin but Vachon kicked out. Vachon took over in a brawl outside the ring and hit the piledriver back in the ring but it was too early as the two-time former USWA World champion kicked out. Vachon followed up with a jumping knee drop but again only got a two-count. Vachon maintained control for a few minutes. Valiant rallied back but got cut off again, as Vachon raked his eyes and hit a backbreaker. He followed up with a second piledriver and scored the pinfall. It was an impressive win for Vachon, as he looks forward to his first shot at the USWA World Heavyweight title against “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan in the main event in two weeks in Knoxville! ***½
9) “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert pinned The Dark Patriot in about six minutes. The masked man attacked the three-time former Southern champion right at the bell. He got him down on the mat and hit an elbow drop for a near fall. The “bogus” Patriot maintained control for a couple of minutes until Gilbert fought back with some stiff punches. He kept control, whipped the Dark Patriot into the ropes, and executed the Hot Shot on the rebound. He covered the masked man and scored the pinfall! The fans went wild at Gilbert’s win. Sir Oliver Humperdink entered the ring and tried to ambush Gilbert but Gilbert saw him coming and popped him with a right hand! Ivan Koloff and Mr. Saito came down to the ring and pulled their manager and ally out of the ring and retreated to the back before Gilbert could pull off the Dark Patriot’s match. Gilbert was joined in celebration by his father Tommy and the Patriot. You can bet the Gilberts and the Patriot will be battling the House of Humperdink again in the near future! *¾
10) The main event was for the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship. Current champion “Exotic” Adrian Street, accompanied by Jim Cornette and Mr. Hughes, put the title on the line against the winner of the opening Battle Royal—King Kong Bundy, accompanied by “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart. As both men were introduced in their corners, their managers came to the center of the ring, with Hughes right behind Cornette. Both managers shook hands, agreeing not to interfere, but fans could tell neither man could be trusted!
Bundy started off the bout strongly using his power and size to his advantage. Street took over by jumping into the New Jersey giant’s arm and kissing him on his bald head and then on the lips! The fans went wild at the sight of this and actually got behind Street in this match, as even though he was the champion, he was a bit of the underdog against his larger foe. While it was Street’s outrageous tactics that gained the advantage, he showcased his wrestling skills by controlling the big challenger for several minutes. He got Bundy’s shoulders down with the crucifix but Bundy kicked out. Street executed a neckbreaker on Bundy and went for a cover but Hart broke his vow (to no surprise) and jumped up on the ring apron, yelling through the megaphone into the ring and getting the British glam rocker’s attention. Street grabbed Hart by the head and looked ready to kiss him! Hart was terrified. He instead got “kissed” from behind by Cornette’s tennis racquet! Hart fell to the floor. He recovered and threatened to go after “The Louisville Slugger” but Hughes stepped in front of him. Street maintained control and busted Bundy open with European uppercuts. Bundy took control and locked the Southern champion in a bear hug. Street was hurting but broke the hold with an eye rake. Bundy stayed on the offensive. He whipped Street into the corner and went for the Atlantic City Avalanche. Street dodged the attack and Bundy hit the buckles hard and then crashed to the mat. Street locked on the Daffodil in the center of the ring. Bundy was trapped and submitted to the hold after 14 minutes, giving Street the win. Hart was upset by the loss but reluctantly shook hands with Cornette. (With Street’s win, he is now in third place for most Southern title defenses with seven!) ***
