Not surprising to see Race grab the gold. Nice stuff by Bundy for sure.

Good ol' fashioned outside interference helps Handsome Harley reclaim the gold... Obvious justification to grant The Patriot an immediate rematch, but I think Jimmy Hart will have a plan to keep his client on top.
Thoroughly enjoyed the Street vs Danielson match and the sketchy finish actually made it more exciting... And I'm also happy that Pearce was able to even up the score with Cabana in Seven Levels of Hate... Even though the match itself was a bust.
Another awesome event!

Thanks to Neilybob, Rob, Troy, and Pariah for the comments!
Highlights of USWA Championship Wrestling from 4-14, including the first matches announced for Derby City Stampede 2018! • Commissioner Long announced that two title matches will be a part of this annual event from the Horse Show Pavilion at the Kentucky State Fairgrounds on Friday, May 4! o The main event will be a rematch for the USWA World Heavyweight championship, coming off last week’s controversial main event in Knoxville. The new and two-time champion Harley Race will defend the gold against former champion The Patriot! Race and Jimmy Hart were interviewed in-studio by Lance Russell. Lance said that it was despicable that a great wrestler like Race had to stoop to such levels to win the title! Hart said that King Kong Bundy showed that he is a good “family member” by helping out a fellow member of the First Family! Race said that he waited a long time to win this belt and he will do whatever it takes to keep this belt! The Patriot was interviewed later in the show and said he doesn’t regret wrestling the match because he wanted to a be true American and be a man, unlike Race, who had to have another wrestler sneak attack him! He said he will do his best to win back the gold and make his country proud! o The commissioner added that for this match, a special guest referee has been assigned to try to maintain order and to try to avoid something as happened in their last bout. Six-time former USWA World champion and Louisville’s own Ed “Strangler” Lewis will referee this bout! Lewis appeared in the WMC-TV Studios and thanked Long for trusting him with this duty. He reminded the wrestling world that he has refereed before, including the main events of Derby City Stampede 2016 and New Year’s Knockout III back in 2006, of which Race was one of the competitors. He’s not afraid to enforce the rules and get physical, when needed! o The other title bout will see John and Chris Tolos getting their long-awaited return match for the USWA World Tag Team titles! They will challenge either their rivals The Flying Redheads or The Heavenly Bodies, depending on the outcome of next week’s main event in Jonesboro! o In addition to these championship bouts, more matches were announced. “Bullet” Bob Armstrong, accompanied by his sons Brad and Brian, was interviewed in the studios. Bob challenged Doctor X, Mad Dog Vachon, and Baron Von Raschke to a six-man tag team bout at Derby City Stampede! He said that he knows there is strength in numbers and he is calling on his family members to help him out in this war with the rulebreakers! Vachon accepted the challenge later in the show! o Another big bout will see two rivals face off again, when “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant faces “Classy” Freddie Blassie! Based on their wild bouts of the past, Commissioner Long has made this a No-Disqualification Match! o Another big grudge match will see “Superstar” Bill Dundee battle “Exotic” Adrian Street! Dundee appeared to have the British glam rocker beaten a few weeks ago in Jackson, TN, until Mr. Hughes pulled down the top rope and caused Dundee to crash to the floor and get counted out!
• The commissioner also announced more matches for the April 23 card at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Coliseum in Evansville! o Both competitors in the Derby City Stampede main event will be in action. Firstly, The Patriot will be looking for revenge when he takes on King Kong Bundy! The masked American hopes to defeat the New Jersey giant for ambushing him last week in Knoxville and costing him the World Heavyweight title! o The World Heavyweight champion Harley Race will face two-time former champion “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan in a big non-title grudge match! This bout was originally scheduled for March 19 in Nashville but Sullivan suffered a concussion from Tommy Gilbert the week before in Lexington. o In a tag team rematch, The Uptown Boys will face the House of Humperdink’s team of Ivan Koloff and Mr. Saito! These teams met last month in Nashville and the Uptown Boys appeared to have the match won until Sir Oliver Humperdink knocked Ric McCord off the top rope with his cane! o Commissioner Long announced that match #3 in the Seven Levels of Hate series will take place on this card. With the series tied at one win each, Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana and “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce will do battle…in a First Blood Match! • “The Monday Night Messiah” Tyler Black and Luke Harper were interviewed in the studios. Black announced that his goal is to win the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship! He said he doesn’t care who the champion is, he knows that he (Black) is the better wrestler! He said he wants to win the title for “you peasants” (the fans) so that they can look up to their leader! Black also reminded the wrestling world that his bodyguard Harper is a former Mid-America Heavyweight champion and would love to get back into the title picture as well!
The USWA returns to the Earl Belle Community Center in Jonesboro on April 16 with a huge card! • In a big tag team match, the former World Tag Team champions Brad and Brian Armstrong will take on the House of Humperdink’s team of Ivan Koloff and Mr. Saito! These two teams have had some intense battles in the past. Who will win in their latest meeting? • “Bullet” Bob Armstrong will also be in action, when goes one-on-one with Mad Dog Vachon! Armstrong is looking forward to getting his hands on the Algerian brawler prior to their six-man tag team bout at Derby City Stampede! • “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan will return from injury and will be out for revenge against Tommy Gilbert! The battles between these two have been intense over the last year. Can Sullivan gain revenge or will Gilbert pull off the victory? • Another wrestler out for revenge is “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant! He will take on two-time former Southern Heavyweight champion “Exotic” Adrian Street! Street has been giving Valiant’s tag team partner “Superstar” Bill Dundee some headaches recently. This should be quite the bout between two colorful characters! • In a rematch for the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight championship, “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach” Pepper Gomez will defend the title against Hugh Morrus! Morrus came very close to winning the title when these two battled last month in Jackson until Gomez snuck under the ring and then surprised his challenger with an attack leading to the pin! In the first bout, Morrus didn’t get the chance to use No Laughing Matter, so we don’t know how this move will work on Gomez’ cast iron stomach. Morrus has shown he can win with other maneuvers, such as a back suplex or a power bomb. Can he win the gold from the Mexican superstar or will Gomez continue his impressive reign? • The main event will be a first-time meeting between two tag teams, battling for the top tag team prize. The new USWA World Tag Team champions The Flying Redheads will defend against the former champions The Heavenly Bodies! The Bodies achieved the second-longest Tag Team title reign, with nine defenses, holding the belts from last year’s Derby City Stampede until February of this year, when Brad and Brian Armstrong defeated them in Tupelo. The Armstrongs’ reign was short, as the Redheads defeated them the next month in Nashville in the Redheads’ first-ever shot at the gold. Red Bastien and Billy Red Lyons are two great fast-paced and technical wrestlers. Dr. Tom Prichard and “The Suicide Blonde” Chris Candido are adept at cutting the ring in half on their opponents and using all tactics, legal or not, against their foes. Plus, the challengers also have manager Jim Cornette and his bodyguard Southern Heavyweight champion Mr. Hughes in their corner! Will the Bodies regain the gold or will the Redheads retain?
All these bouts, plus “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson, The Tolos Brothers, Luke Harper, and more in action at the Earl Belle Community Center on Church Street!

April 16, 2018 Card #541: Earl Belle Community Center in Jonesboro
1) S.D. and S.T. Jones got a disqualification win in the opener over “The Unpredictable” Johnny Rodz and “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe in a 10-minute match-up. Sharpe and “Special Delivery” started off the match for their respective teams. Sharpe gained control and tagged Rodz, who hit a back elbow smash for a near fall. He then hit the shoulder breaker and went for a cover but “Soul Train” saved his partner. “Philadelphia’s Favorite Son” blocked a body slam attempt from Sharpe a few moments later and hit him with a series of punches, before delivering his Philly Shuffle. He then tagged S.T., who wore down Rodz before tagging S.D. back into the match. Rodz took control and tagged Sharpe again. The rulebreakers trapped “Special Delivery” in their corner and double teamed him. Paul Morton started a five-count on them. Sharpe responded by shoving Morton down. Morton was left with no choice but to call for the bell and awarded the bout to the Joneses via DQ. “Soul Train” came in from the Joneses’ corner and nailed Sharpe with punches. Sharpe and Rodz retreated before more damage could be done! **½
2) Luke Harper dominated “Sodbuster” Kenny Jay and scored a pinfall in about two minutes. The former Mid-America Heavyweight champion was relentless against Jay from the opening bell. He knocked Jay out of the ring with a clothesline and then followed him, whipping him hard into the ring steps. He tossed Jay back into the ring, sent him into the ropes, and delivered a big boot to score the pinfall. DUD
3) John and Chris Tolos earned a hard-fought victory over “Dastardly” Danny Doring and The Amish RoadKill. Doring and RoadKill controlled the first few minutes of the match, trapping Chris in the ring. RoadKill came off the middle part of the top rope with a diving clothesline for a near fall. John finally tagged in and the Toloses worked over “The Angry Amish Warrior.” RoadKill managed to tag to the “Dastardly One,” put the Tolos Brothers were focused and kept him in the ring for the remainder of the match (10 minutes). Doring took a lot of punishment, kicking out of a running boot to the face from Chris. He finally went down to John’s solo version of the flying knee drop, while Chris stopped RoadKill from a save, after 20 minutes. The Toloses are ready for their rematch for the World Tag Team titles at Derby City Stampede! (Whom will they challenge? Read on!) ***
4) “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson scored a quick and impressive submission on George South. The match just got going, when Danielson locked on the guillotine choke in the center of the ring. He took South down to the mat and South quickly tapped out in 26 seconds! Danielson definitely has his eyes set on regaining the Southern Heavyweight title next week in Evansville from Mr. Hughes! DUD
5) Ivan Koloff and Mr. Saito picked up a tainted win over former World Tag Team champions Brad and Brian Armstrong in 22 minutes. This was a back-and-forth bout between these two teams. About two minutes into the bout, Saito whipped Brad into the ropes and tagged Koloff. As Brad rebounded, Koloff blasted him with the Russian Sickle. For whatever reason, Koloff went to the Armstrongs’ corner and gloated in “The Road Dogg’s” face rather than go for a pin. Brian’s response was a big right hand, which floored the Russian! Both Koloff and Brad were down, as Scott Bowden administered the count. Both men got to their feet by seven. Koloff attempted another Sickle but Brad ducked and caught “The Russian Bear” with the Russian leg sweep! Brad was still hurting and slow to make a cover so Koloff kicked out at 2¾. Brad managed to tag Brian, who delivered more big punches, including one that sent Koloff out of the ring. He was almost counted out but with Saito’s help, got back in by eight. “The Road Dogg” immediately hit the pump handle slam. He went for a cover. Sir Oliver Humperdink had handed the Japanese Olympian his cane and then got up on the apron to distract Bowden. Saito snuck in and nailed Brian over the back of the head with the cane. Brad came in but got nailed in the ribs as well. Saito placed Koloff on top and Bowden turned around to count but the former Mid-America champion kicked out at 2¾! Brian managed to tag Brad a few moments later and the Armstrongs worked over Saito. Saito trapped Brian in the House of Humperdink’s corner and double teamed him. “The Russian Bear” tagged back in and tossed Brian out of the ring. While Saito diverted Bowden and Brad’s attention, Humperdink held Brian, while Koloff smashed him in the face with the cane, drawing blood! Back in the ring, Koloff went for a submission with a Russian backbreaker. Brian managed to kick off the ropes, break free, and knock Koloff down with a clothesline! Out of desperation, he went up to the middle rope. Saito came in to stop him but Brad came in as well as a house of fire, pummeling Saito in the House of Humperdink’s corner! Bowden turned his attention to the two illegal men and didn’t see Humperdink come over and nail “The Road Dogg” in the back with the cane again! Brian hit the mat. For good measure, Koloff picked him up, whipped him into the ropes, and delivered the Russian Sickle. He covered Brian in the center of the ring. Bowden turned around to see this and counted the pin, as Saito held back Brad from making a save. The Jonesboro fans were not happy about this outcome! “Bullet” Bob Armstrong came down to the ring to check on Brian’s condition. Brad was able to help his brother to the back, while Bob stayed in the ring for his own match. ****
6) Mad Dog Vachon defeated “Bullet” Bob Armstrong by disqualification in three minutes. Vachon took advantage of a distracted Armstrong, concerned for Brian’s wellbeing, and attacked him right at the bell with double sledges. He picked up Armstrong and executed an airplane spin, then went for a cover 15 seconds in the match but Armstrong kicked out. Vachon continued his onslaught. Suddenly, Brad and Brian Armstrong were back out at ringside. (Brian had his bandaged from his laceration in the previous match and blood was still spurting, as he certainly couldn’t have had time to get it fully wrapped.) They cheered on their father. Doctor X and Baron Von Raschke (both wearing suits, since neither was scheduled to wrestle on this card) came down to ringside as well. Vachon hit a running knee lift and then mocked Brad and Brian. The hot-tempered “Road Dogg” hit the ring as Vachon went for a cover and started pounding on him! Brad jumped in as well, as Joe Wheeler called for the bell, disqualifying “Bullet” Bob. The masked Doctor and “The Clawmaster” entered the ring and a pier-six brawl broke out! The Armstrongs gained the upper hand and sent the rulebreakers fleeing! neg*
7) “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan returned to action and scored a DQ victory over rival Tommy Gilbert. While Sullivan was, of course, accompanied by manager Sir Oliver Humperdink, Gilbert was joined by son “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert at ringside. This was, as expected, a wild brawl from the opening bell. Sullivan knocked Gilbert out of the ring with a running forearm and then followed his opponent. Humperdink diverted Eddie and Jerry Calhoun’s attention, while Sullivan nailed Tommy in the back with a steel chair! Sullivan continued the attack inside the ring, nailing the Tree of Woe. He tossed Tommy out of the ring again and used a chair a second time, again, while Humperdink distracted Calhoun. The fans were outraged by Sullivan’s flagrant illegal tactics! Despite the pain of two chair shots, Tommy fought back and had the two-time former USWA champion in trouble, sending him out of the ring after a standing dropkick. Sullivan, though hurt, managed to grab the chair again. He went to swing it but Eddie came up behind him and pulled it out of his hands! He tossed it to his father, who used it on “The Gamesmaster”! Unfortunately this time, Calhoun saw the chair get used and called for the bell, disqualifying Gilbert after six minutes of action. Humperdink and Sullivan retreated before the Gilberts could continue the attack! **
8) “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant picked up a big win over “Exotic” Adrian Street in a 22-minute wild match! Valiant went for the sleeper several times throughout the bout. About halfway through, he busted Street open with a running elbow smash before going for a pin attempt. A few minutes later, “The Boy from New York City” went for a submission with a nerve hold but the “Exotic One” got to the ropes. The two-time former World champion went for another sleeper. Street started to drop and Scott Bowden checked his arm. It dropped twice and it appeared to have dropped a third time but Bowden missed it, as Jim Cornette had jumped up on the apron. Valiant released the hold and went after Cornette but the Southern champ Mr. Hughes stood in his way. Cornette snuck into the ring on the other side and woke up Street. Street was woozy but had enough wherewithal to ambush “Boogie Woogie.” He worked Valiant over and then out of nowhere, jumped into Valiant’s arms and kissed him! Valiant tossed him out of his arm but then surprised Street with a kiss! The fans went wild as Street stumbled around. Valiant give him an eye poke and then continued his attack. He got Street down on the mat, hit the Boogie Woogie elbow, and then scored the pinfall. The Jonesboro fans popped big for “Handsome” Jimmy’s win! ***¾
9) “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach” Pepper Gomez retained the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight title over Hugh Morrus in eight minutes. Gomez was very focused here, dominating most of the action. He used the Mexican cradle twice but the challenger kicked out. Gomez landed a Mexican Leap across Morrus’ nose, busting him open. He went for another cradle but Sir Oliver Humperdink pulled Joe Wheeler out of the ring as he was counting! Knowing the importance of a title match, Wheeler didn’t disqualify Morrus but sent Humperdink to the back for the remainder of the match! Gomez stayed in control but Morrus recovered and hit No Joke for a near fall. Morrus hit a top rope elbow but didn’t go for a cover. Instead, he picked up Gomez and sent him into the ropes. The champion reversed the whip and sent Morrus up and over on the rebound with a wind-up punch to the stomach. Gomez covered the bloody challenger and scored the pin to retain the title! The Jonesboro fans popped big for the champion’s win! (With the win, Gomez is now at six defenses of the Mid-America title, tying him for second place of most defenses with Fit Finlay’s first reign. One more defense will put Gomez in a three-way tie for the most!) **¾
10) The main event was for the USWA World Tag Team championship. The new champions The Flying Redheads made their first defense against former champions The Heavenly Bodies, accompanied by manager Jim Cornette and his bodyguard and Southern Heavyweight champion Mr. Hughes. Red Bastien and Billy Red Lyons trapped Dr. Tom Prichard in the ring for the first eight minutes or so of the bout. Bastien tried for a submission with an abdominal stretch in the opening minutes but Prichard made the ropes. Lyons tagged in and went for the figure-four leglock. Chris Candido came in and broke up the submission attempt. Bastien came in and a four-way brawl broke out! Paul Morton restored order quickly. Lyons tagged to Bastien, who picked up Prichard into the airplane spin into the atomic drop. Prichard was sent into the top turnbuckle from the atomic drop and was busted open. He managed to roll out of the ring before Bastien could go for a cover. Cornette and Hughes helped him recover and helped him back into the ring. Bastien quickly attacked, taking Prichard down with a double leg takedown and turning it into a Boston Crab. A bloody Prichard was in trouble, so Cornette distracted Morton. Candido came in and nailed Bastien from behind to break up the Crab. Candido returned to the Bodies’ corner, while both Bastien and Prichard tagged their partners. “The Suicide Blonde” was in the match legally for the first time and took control on Lyons. He tagged Prichard back in and the Bodies hit the Flapjack. “The Doctor of Desire” wore down Lyons for a few minutes before tagging back to Candido and hitting a double team suplex. Lyons was hurt but managed to make the tag to Bastien. Candido went to work on Bastien. He tried for an enzuigiri but Bastien ducked and Candido crashed to the mat. Candido stumbled to his feet but got hit with a beautiful flying head scissors from Bastien. Bastien went for a cover but Candido kicked out. The champions tagged in and out and trapped Candido in the ring. Bastien hit a double knee lift, busting open Candido. He then went up top and came off with a sunset flip. He went for a pin but Candido kicked out. Lyons tagged back in and had Candido in trouble. Prichard came in but so did Bastien and the two brawled in the opposite corner of the ring. Morton tried to get them out of the ring. Meanwhile, Candido grabbed Lyons’ arms, as Cornette entered the ring and went to hit the Canadian with the tennis racquet. Lyons ducked and Candido got nailed with the racquet. Hughes pulled Cornette out of the ring for safety. Lyons grabbed Candido, who was already out in the sleeperhold. Morton turned around to see them in the center of the ring. He checked Candido’s arm and it dropped three times, so Morton called for the bell after 14 minutes and awarded the bout via submission to the Redheads! ***¼

An exceptional title defense for the Redheads... Always fun when a team outwits Cornette... Excited for the upcoming challenge of the Tolos brothers.
Also really enjoyed how the Boogie Woogie Man turned the tables by reciprocating Street's kiss by planting one of his own... Bet the Exotic One didn't see that coming!
Great stuff from start to finish, my friend... Nice work!

Thanks to Troy, Booker Bill, Pariah, Victory Roll, and Neilybob for the comments!
Highlights of USWA Championship Wrestling from April 21, including more announcements for Derby City Stampede 2018! • After the results of last week’s main event in Jonesboro, we now know that the USWA World Tag Team title bout will see The Flying Redheads defend the titles against The Tolos Brothers! These two teams know each other well. The Canadian brothers would love to defeat their rivals and take home the gold! • A unique tag team match will take place, as Tommy and Eddie Gilbert will team up to take on “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan and his manager Sir Oliver Humperdink! Commissioner Teddy Long made this match, based on last week’s match between Tommy and Sullivan, where both Eddie and Humperdink got involved in some way. • Another House of Humperdink will be in action, as Hugh Morrus faces a tough challenge in “Wildfire” Tommy Rich! This will be Rich’s first match in Louisville! • The commissioner also announced that a big 15-man Battle Royal will take place! The winner of this Battle Royal will challenge Pepper Gomez for the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight championship on Memorial Day, May 28, at Engel Stadium in Chattanooga! The commissioner announced six of the wrestlers for this match: o Luke Harper o The Heavenly Bodies (Tom Prichard and Chris Candido) o Hillbilly Jim o “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon o As part of his new talent initiative, Commissioner Long announced that there will be a mystery entrant, who will be making his first appearance in the USWA in the hopes of making a big impact and capturing gold quickly! More names will be announced in the coming weeks on Championship Wrestling!
• In other news, past Derby City Stampede, whoever leaves Louisville the USWA World Tag Team champions won’t have long to rest, as they will defend 10 days later at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis in the main event against former champions Brad and Brian Armstrong!
It’s the last stop before Derby City Stampede 2018, when the USWA comes back to the Soldiers and Sailors Coliseum in Evansville on April 23! • In a preview of the six-man tag team match at Derby City Stampede, “The Road Dogg” Brian Armstrong will go one-on-one with Baron Von Raschke! “The Clawmaster” defeated Brian’s father Bob two weeks ago in Knoxville and hopes to have similar success against the youngest Armstrong sibling. Brian is not only a four-time former World Tag Team champion but also a former Mid-America champion and a formidable singles competitor. Which man will gain momentum for his team at Derby City Stampede? • In a big tag team rematch, The Uptown Boys will take on Ivan Koloff and Mr. Saito! The House of Humperdink narrowly defeated Marty Jannetty and Ric McCord last month in Nashville, when Sir Oliver Humperdink interfered with his cane. The Uptown Boys are hoping to avenge that loss and gain a huge win over the powerhouses. Can they do it or will “The Russian Bear” and the Japanese Olympian win again? • The challenger for the World title at Derby City Stampede will be in action when former champ The Patriot battles King Kong Bundy! The New Jersey giant ambushed the Patriot two weeks ago in Knoxville before his title defense against Bundy’s First Family of Wrestling ally Harley Race, leading to a quick regaining of the title by Race. The Patriot has battled the big man before and hopes to get another win to gain revenge for that attack and to gain momentum before his rematch for the title! • The World champion Harley Race will also be in non-title action when he takes on former champ “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan in a grudge match. Race put the title on the line against Sullivan in February in Memphis but the match ended quickly when Sullivan used a steel chair. You can bet that Sullivan would love to earn another title shot and a win over the champion would put him in consideration. Can the evil Sullivan topple Race or will Race’s wrestling skills win out in Evansville? • Match #3 in the historic Seven Levels of Hate series will take place when Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana battles “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce in a First Blood Match! The series is now tied at one win for each wrestler. Dave Brown reviewed the rules for a First Blood Match on last week’s episode of Championship Wrestling: o In this match, there are no pinfalls, submission, disqualifications, or countouts. o The only way a wrestler can win is to make his opponent bleed. The referee will stop the match when he has verified that one wrestler is bleeding. Which wrestler will draw first blood and take the lead in the series? • The main event will be a rematch for the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship. Current champion Mr. Hughes will make his first defense against former champion “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson! Hughes shocked many wrestling fans and experts by winning the title from Danielson last month in Jackson, TN. In their three meetings (two in singles and one in tag), Hughes has defeated the two-time former World and two-time former Southern champion each time. With the power advantage and Jim Cornette on his side, Hughes seems likely to retain. But never count Danielson out, as he has overcome great odds and wants that Southern title desperately! Can Danielson become a three-time champ or will Hughes score his fourth win?
All these bouts, as well as “The Monday Night Messiah” Tyler Black taking on Brad Armstrong! Plus, the First Family of Wrestling team of Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine! As well as the debut of “The Fabulous” Jackie Fargo!
