Danielson did the silly thing and paid for it. Nice win by Gomez.

The USWA never disappoints and the action in both Nashville and Jackson was top notch. Some changing of the guard as well with Mr. Hughes dethroning Bryan Danielson (I did not see that coming!) and the Flying Redheads toppling Brad & Brian Armstrong.
Good to see "Bullet" Bob Armstrong topple Doctor X, complete with Bad to the Bone playing, and I'm really looking forward to "The Bullet" taking on Baron Von Raschke.
I also want to give a tip of the cap to the Uptown Boys and Ivan Koloff & Mr. Saito for that tag bout in Jackson. That was a classic for sure.

Thanks to Troy, Victory Roll, Crue Fan, and Neilybob for the comments!
Highlights of the last two episodes of USWA Championship Wrestling:
March 31: • The new Southern champion Mr. Hughes and Jim Cornette were in the WMC-TV Studios. Cornette bragged about his bodyguard being not only the best protection but now the best Southern champion! He said that with Hughes’s toughness and high tolerance for pain, no one will be able to stop him! • Commissioner Teddy Long announced that Hughes’s first defense of the Southern Heavyweight title will be on April 23 in the main event at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Coliseum in Evansville in a rematch against two-time former champion “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson! • Hughes’s involvement in “Exotic” Adrian Street’s match last week in Jackson was also addressed, as “Superstar” Bill Dundee suffered a neck injury in landing on the floor when Hughes pulled down the top rope. The Aussie will be out of action for a few weeks. • Dundee’s partner “The Boogie Woogie Man“ “Handsome“ Jimmy Valiant has stepped up and will take on the “Exotic One” for the first time ever, when these two battle on April 16 at the Earl Belle Community Center in Jonesboro! • Sir Oliver Humperdink and Hugh Morrus were interviewed. Morrus vacillated between laughter and anger, as he explained that he felt Pepper Gomez “cheated” in their Mid-America Heavyweight championship bout last week in Jackson. He said it was “unfair” for Gomez to hide under the ring and then attack him. Humperdink demanded a rematch for the title! • Ever the competitor, Gomez was interviewed later in the show and gladly accepted another Mid-America title bout with Morrus. Commissioner Long added this match to the April 16 card in Jonesboro!
April 7: • Commissioner Long announced that he is always looking for new talent who wants to try their hand at competition in the USWA! A few names have been in contact with him and one of them will debut on April 23 in Evansville. This man has wrestled as part of a rulebreaking tag team in the WWF, GCW (Georgia Championship Wrestling), MACW (Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling), and other areas but in recent years, has gone out on his own and become a popular star. Long announced that “The Fabulous” Jackie Fargo will be strutting his way into the USWA! • The commissioner announced two more big bouts for the April 16 card in Jonesboro: o In a big tag team bout, Brad and Brian Armstrong will take on Ivan Koloff and Mr. Saito of the House of Humperdink! These teams have had some epic battles in the past. With the Armstrongs awaiting a return bout to try to regain the World Tag Team titles, they would love a win over “The Russian Bear” and the Japanese Olympian. But Koloff and Saito are waiting for another chance to win the gold as well! o Two-time former USWA World Heavyweight champion “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan will be cleared from his concussion. He will be out for revenge when he battles his rival and the man who injured him—Tommy Gilbert! • Commissioner Long also revealed that the fourth annual Derby City Stampede will take place on Friday, May 4 from the Horse Show Pavilion at the Kentucky State Fairgrounds! This supercard has become a tradition the night before the “Fastest Two Minutes in Sports”—the Kentucky Derby! Commissioner Long announced that matches for this supercard will be announced on Championship Wrestling in the coming weeks!
The USWA returns to the Civic Coliseum in Knoxville on April 9 with a huge card! • Former USWA World and Southern Heavyweight champion “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert will take on the New Jersey giant King Kong Bundy! Despite Bundy having more than 200 pounds on his opponent, Gilbert will not back down from a fight and will use whatever tools in his arsenal to try to defeat Bundy. Both of these men have allies in the main event of this card and it will be interesting to see if this match has any momentum on the last match! • In a first-time tag team meeting, the former World Tag Team champions The Heavenly Bodies will take on the popular Uptown Boys! Jim Cornette’s team is hoping for a win one week prior to their rematch for the World Tag Team titles against the Flying Redheads in Jonesboro. But Marty Jannetty and Ric McCord have proven to be an effective duo. Which team will leave Knoxville the winners? • “Bullet” Bob Armstrong is hoping for a measure of revenge when he takes on “The Clawmaster” Baron Von Raschke! These two met last month in Lexington and Armstrong appeared to have the match won until a loaded head butt from Doctor X led to a countout win for the German. Can Armstrong get the win he appeared to have last time? • “Wildfire” Tommy Rich will make his USWA singles debut! He will take on a tough opponent in Chris Tolos! While Tolos is known for his tag team prowess with his brother John, he is a very capable competitor one-on-one. Can he spoil Rich’s singles debut or will Rich get fired up? • Two rivals and two-time former Southern Heavyweight champions will collide when “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson faces “Exotic” Adrian Street! Danielson continues to have his struggles with Jim Cornette’s men, having just lost the Southern title to Cornette’s bodyguard Mr. Hughes a few weeks ago in Jackson. He will get his rematch in two weeks in Jonesboro in Evansville but you can bet that Street will be looking to punish him before that title rematch. With Cornette and the Southern champ Hughes at ringside, Danielson will have quite the challenge in front of him. Can he take down the British glam rocker? • “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant will be out for revenge when goes one-on-one with John Tolos! Tolos, along with brother Chris and “Classy” Freddie Blassie, put Valiant out of action for a month. Valiant, Tommy Rich, and “Superstar” Dundee won the big six-man tag team bout a few weeks ago in Nashville but “The Boy from New York City” would love to get a singles win over Tolos as well. Can the two-time former World champion get the job done? • The second match of the Seven Levels of Hate series will take place, when Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana will take on “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce in a Knoxville Street Fight! Cabana won the first bout a few weeks ago in Nashville in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match. You have to wonder if the format of a Street Fight could favor Pearce, especially with Jim Cornette and Southern Heavyweight champion Mr. Hughes in his corner. Dave Brown reviewed the rules of a Street Fight on the April 7 edition of Championship Wrestling: o There are no disqualifications and no countouts in this match. The match can only be won by pinfall or submission inside the ring. o The wrestlers involved can (and often do) come dressed in street clothes. Who will win the second part of this epic series? • The main event will be a rematch for the USWA World Heavyweight championship. The new champion The Patriot will defend against the former champion Harley Race! The masked American shocked the world last month with a strong victory over Race to win the gold in Lexington, not only capturing the title but giving Race his first loss since returning to the USWA in March 2017. Race and Jimmy Hart were outraged and demanded Race’s rematch immediately. They hope to make the Patriot’s reign a short one but you can bet the champ will fight to hold on to the belt! Can the Patriot soar to victory or will Race regain the gold?
All these bouts, as well as a tag team rematch between the First Family team of Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine taking on “Dastardly” Danny Doring and The Amish RoadKill! Plus, Hugh Morrus in action!

Really looking forward to Handsome Harley's rematch... Can The Patriot extend his title reign? Or is he destined to be a slim entry in the history books?

Thanks to Victory Roll and Pariah for the comments!
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
April 9, 2018 Card #540: Civic Coliseum in Knoxville
1) Hugh Morrus won a very competitive opening bout against “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon. The PBR drinker Cannon had a lot of offense in the opening minutes against the laughing man. He sent Morrus to the floor and then hit an impressive clothesline off the ring apron to the floor on Morrus. Morrus was almost counted out but with Sir Oliver Humperdink’s help managed to return to the ring by the count of eight. Morrus was knocked to the floor again a few moments later but took control, ramming Cannon back-first into the ring apron. He tossed Cannon back in and hit spinebuster for a near fall. He stayed on the attack and picked up the pinfall after 16 minutes with a big power bomb. It was an impressive win for Morrus as he looks ahead to another shot at Pepper Gomez and the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight title next week in Jonesboro! ***
2) Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine avenged their disqualification loss on the last card in Jackson with a win over “Dastardly” Danny Doring and The Amish RoadKill. Doring and RoadKill put up a fight against the First Family of Wrestling team. Midway through the bout, Stevens hit the piledriver on Doring and went for the cover but Doring got his foot under the bottom rope for a break. Doring rallied back against “The Crippler” and tagged “The Angry Amish Warrior.” RoadKill hit the Barn Burner on Stevens but took much time in doing his “chickens!” pose, which allowed Stevens to roll to the First Family’s corner and tag back to “The Hammer.” Valentine went right to work on RoadKill and he and Stevens cut the ring in half on him. Valentine hit a shoulder breaker on RoadKill and went for a cover but Doring made the save. Valentine blasted Doring with stiff chops and tossed him out of the ring, then tagged to Stevens. The three-time former Mid-America champ immediately went up the ropes and came off with the Bombs Away. He covered Doring and scored the pinfall in 12 minutes. Jimmy Hart was definitely happy with his men’s win! **¾
3) King Kong Bundy picked up a win over former World champion “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert. Bundy was aggressive at the start and hit the Atlantic City Avalanche about two minutes into the bout. He went for a cover but Gilbert managed to kick out! Gilbert fought back and hit a short piledriver on the New Jersey giant, using Bundy’s singlet for leverage to execute the maneuver. He covered Bundy but only got a two-count. “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart, who had returned to the locker room with Ray Stevens and Greg Valentine after their win, sprinted back to ringside to be with Bundy. Bundy turned the tide and locked Gilbert in a bear hug in the middle of the ring, which is how he defeated Billy Gunn on the last card in Jackson. Gilbert’s arm dropped twice but on the third attempt, it bounced back up, and he nailed Bundy with some big right hands to break the hold. Bundy stayed on the offensive and whipped Gilbert into the buckles. He went for a second Avalanche but Gilbert moved out of the way and Bundy crashed hard. Gilbert climbed up to the second rope and delivered a series of punches to Bundy, while the crowd counted along! Bundy, out of desperation, ducked a final punch, got underneath Gilbert, and drove him into the mat with a modified spinebuster. He covered Gilbert and put his feet on the second ropes for leverage to score the pin after six minutes. Bundy and Hart quickly got out of the ring, as the Knoxville fans were not happy about this outcome! **¼
4) The Heavenly Bodies were victorious over The Uptown Boys. The fan favorites tried to get a big win in the opening moments of the match, as Marty Jannetty went for a reverse rolling cradle on Dr. Tom Prichard and scored a two-count. Prichard recovered and tagged to Chris Candido. “The Suicide Blonde” wore down Jannetty and tagged back to Prichard so that the Bodies could hit the Flapjack. Prichard came off the second ropes with a knee drop for a two-count. The Bodies continued to double team Jannetty and executed the Prima Donna Plunge but Jannetty kicked out at 2¾! The former World Tag Team champions continued their onslaught until Jannetty blocked a choke from Candido and threw him with a monkey flip. He then crawled to the corner and made the hot tag to Ric McCord. McCord ran wild on “The Suicide Blonde,” knocking him out of the ring with some big forearm smashes. Candido was dazed as McCord followed him out of the ring. Jim Cornette distracted Jerry Calhoun, as Southern Heavyweight champion Mr. Hughes put down his title belt and clotheslined McCord from behind! Candido recovered and tossed McCord back into the ring. Candido hit a running neckbreaker and scored a near fall before tagging back to “The Doctor of Desire.” Prichard hit the enzuigiri and scored the pinfall at about the eight-minute mark, while Candido stopped Jannetty from a save. Cornette’s men rallied back and gained some momentum going into their rematch for the World Tag Team titles against the Flying Redheads next week in Jonesboro! **
5) Baron Von Raschke picked up an impressive victory over “Bullet” Bob Armstrong in about 10 minutes. “The Clawmaster” controlled much of the action for the first few minutes of the bout, scoring near falls after a back suplex, a backbreaker drop, and a running knee smash. He went for the brain claw and Armstrong started to weaken but he managed to get a foot under the bottom rope for a break. Armstrong took over and surprised the German grappler with the sleeper. Von Raschke started to drop but managed to grab the middle rope. Armstrong stayed on the offensive and knocked Von Raschke down with a head butt but only got a two-count. Armstrong battered his opponent with punches and then sent Von Raschke into the ropes. He went for a big haymaker but “The Clawmaster” ducked, spun around, and then surprised “Bullet” Bob with a second claw! Armstrong dropped to the mat and Von Raschke was able to pin his shoulders down for the win. ****
6) “Wildfire” Tommy Rich was victorious in his first USWA singles match, with a submission over Chris Tolos. Tolos put up a fight against Rich but with the fans behind him, the fan favorite rallied back. Rich surprised Tolos with a sunset flip when Tolos telegraphed a backdrop but only got a two-count. He caught Tolos in the sleeper a few moments later. Tolos dropped to the mat. Paul Neighbors checked Tolos’ arm and it dropped three times, so Neighbors called for the bell and awarded the bout to “Wildfire”! *¾
7) In a battle of two rivals, “Exotic” Adrian Street picked up a controversial win over “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson. At the start of the bout, Danielson stared down Jim Cornette and especially Southern champion Mr. Hughes at ringside. The action between these two was intense from the opening bell. Street got Danielson down on the mat in the opening minutes and went for a submission with the Daffodil but Danielson got out of the hold. Street also went for the crucifix but Danielson kicked out. The British glam rocker set up Danielson for a neckbreaker but Danielson blocked it and surprised Street with a backslide for a two-count. Danielson knocked Street out of the ring and hit a suicide dive, sending Street crashing back-first into the guard rail. Street was almost counted out but with Hughes’s assistance, made it back in by nine. The action was back-and-forth when Danielson regained control and came off the top with a missile dropkick, nailing Street right in the face and causing his make-up to get mixed with his blood. Danielson kipped up but before he could try for a cover, Cornette was up on the ring apron. “Dragon” went after him but Cornette leapt off the apron into Hughes’s arms! Danielson stayed in control and locked on the guillotine choke. Street was weakened but managed to get to the ropes for a break. Danielson placed Street on the top rope and climbed up to execute a back superplex. Cornette again distracted Jerry Calhoun, while Hughes ran over to the corner where the two combatants were. He tripped Danielson, causing him to lose hold of the superplex. Street managed to shift his weight and come out the better in the landing. Danielson was holding his previously injured back. Street took advantage and again locked on the Daffodil in the center of the ring. The pain was too much and Danielson submitted to the hold. The Knoxville fans were not happy about this outcome! ****
8) John Tolos picked up a win via DQ over “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant in about four minutes. As soon as Valiant entered the ring, Tolos charged him and ambushed him. He was relentless, hitting the flying knee drop for a two-count. He continued the attack and hit a standing knee drop. Suddenly, “Wildfire” Tommy Rich charged the ring and attacked Tolos. Frank Morrell had no choice but to call for the bell and disqualify Valiant. Tolos quickly retreated to the locker before Rich could unleash more punishment. neg*
9) It was a perfect night for Jim Cornette’s men, as “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce defeated Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana in a Knoxville Street Fight in the second match of the Seven Levels of Hate series. Both men came dressed in street clothes, ready for a fight. The action was intense from the opening bell. Cabana started off the aggressor and went for the Colt .45 early on. He was near the ropes and Southern champion Mr. Hughes was able to pull Pearce off of Cabana’s back before he could hit the move. Cabana stayed in control and sent Pearce into the corner. He came in with a double running knee strike. Hughes again got involved, shoving Pearce out of the way and nailed Cabana in the head with a steel chair, perfectly legal in a Street Fight. The champion tossed the chair into the ring. Pearce capitalized by hitting a swinging neckbreaker onto the chair and scoring the pinfall in just four minutes. As Pearce, Hughes, and Jim Cornette returned to the locker room, “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson came down to the ring to check on his ally. With Pearce’s win, the series is now tied 1-1. neg* (NOTE: For Street Fights, I use the Texas/Titan Death Hardcore chart. I didn’t get to roll once on the chart in this match!)
10) The main event was a rematch for the USWA World Heavyweight championship. The new champion The Patriot put the title on the line against former champion Harley Race. Race, with manager Jimmy Hart, entered the ring first and went to his corner, awaiting Gary Michael Cappetta’s pre-main event introductions. As the champion came to the ring, he was ambushed in the aisle by Race’s First Family of Wrestling ally King Kong Bundy! Bundy drove the champion’s back into the ring post and then delivered a big splash on the arena floor! Eddie and Tommy Gilbert came sprinting out of the back with steel chairs in hand and nailed the New Jersey giant. USWA officials quickly came to ringside to separate the three before more damage could be done. As Bundy was escorted to the back, the Gilberts helped up the champion. Jerry Calhoun was ready to disqualify Race before the bout had officially begun but the champion, showing his bravery and tenacity, said he wanted to compete! After the ring introductions, the champion fought his hardest but was too wounded. Race dominated him, hitting the piledriver for a two-count. Race hit the vertical suplex, targeting the champion’s injured back. He covered the champion and for good measure put his feet on the ropes to score the pinfall and regain the title in five minutes! The fans were irate by what had transpired. Bundy (still shaken up from the chair shots), Ray “The Crippler” Stevens, and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine joined Race and Hart in the celebration! The Gilberts quickly helped the champion to the back and indicated to Race and Hart that this war was not over! DUD
