Give a team enough title shots and they'll usually find a way to win at some point.
Go Redheads and Bullet Bob.

Thanks to Pariah, Troy, Booker Bill, and Victory Roll for the comments!
Highlights of USWA Championship Wrestling from July 21: • Commissioner Teddy Long had some big bouts to announce for the coming weeks. He congratulated John and Chris Tolos on winning the USWA World Tag Team championship last week in Knoxville and announced that their first defense will bein the main event on August 13 at the Louisville Gardens when they defend against their rivals—The Uptown Boys! Marty Jannetty and Ric McCord hold two wins over the new champions and would love to make their reign a short one! • The commissioner also announced more bouts for the August 6 card at the Tupelo Sports Arena: o “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant will get a chance to get his hands on Mr. Hughes, one-on-one! These two met in the tag team match at Independence Day Bash, with Hughes and “Exotic” Adrian Street coming out the victors over Valiant and “Superstar” Bill Dundee. What will happen this time? o Two newcomers in the last few months will battle each other, when “The Fabulous” Jackie Fargo collides with Dutch Savage! As of this writing, neither man has suffered a decisive loss. But that could change in Tupelo!
The USWA returns to the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Coliseum in Evansville on July 23! • “The Fabulous” Jackie Fargo hopes to continue his winning ways when he faces former Mid-America Heavyweight champion “Dastardly” Danny Doring! Doring led to Fargo’s only blemish on his record so far, when his interference in Fargo’s match against Doring’s tag team partner The Amish RoadKill at Independence Day Bash led to Pepper Gomez interfering for a disqualification. Fargo avenged that loss to “The Angry Amish Warrior” last week in Knoxville and hopes to get a win as well against the “Dastardly One.” Doring is a sneaky competitor, as seen in his winning the Mid-America title this year. Who will leave Evansville the victor? • Speaking of the Mid-America title, the former champion Pepper Gomez will take on two-time former Southern Heavyweight champion “Classy” Freddie Blassie in a first-time meeting between these two superstars! In an interview with Lance Russell on Championship Wrestling, Gomez stated that he has been honored to be the Mid-America champion, as well as the Southern champion but now he would like to challenge for the USWA World Heavyweight title for the first time! A win over Blassie would definitely put him in consideration. Blassie is scheduled to challenge the Patriot for that title on August 6 in Tupelo. Coming off his loss to “Bullet” Bob Armstrong last week in Knoxville, Blassie will be coming into this bout very focused on getting a win and getting some momentum going into his title bout. Will it be “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach” or “The King of Men” leaving Evansville as the winner? • Two men who will be challenging for singles gold on August 20 in Jackson will battle each other when Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana faces “The Monday Night Messiah” Tyler Black! Cabana interfered in Black’s title match with Southern Heavyweight champion Bryan Danielson last month in Tuscaloosa, leading to a disqualification win for Black but not the Southern title. Cabana will be challenging Black’s bodyguard Luke Harper for the Mid-America title in a few weeks, the same night that Black gets a rematch for the Southern title in the main event. This is Cabana’s first match back in action since concluding his Seven Levels of Hate series with “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce and you have to wonder what type of shape he’s in, both physically and mentally. Can Black avenge Cabana’s interference from last month and defeat the host of The Art of Wrestling? • In a tag team rematch from last month in Lexington, “Superstar” Bill Dundee and “Wildfire” Tommy Rich will battle the former World Tag Team champions The Heavenly Bodies! The fan favorites got the win last time via countout after 34 minutes in a triple-juice classic! Jim Cornette claimed on WMC-TV this past week that the USWA ring crew should have been suspended because the ropes were not secure when Tom Prichard was whipped into the corner and they are lucky he hasn’t called his mama’s high-priced lawyer Stephen P. New and sued them! Rich and Dundee in their two matches together have been very effective, defeating the Bodies via countout and scoring a win over the now-World Tag Team champions the Tolos Brothers the following week in Tuscaloosa. Can Dundee and Rich go 2-0 against Cornette’s men or will the Bodies have a trick up their sleeves? • Two former World Heavyweight champions will lock up when “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert battles Harley Race! Both men are coming off of disappointing losses on July 4 in Memphis and want to get back on track. Most wrestling experts feel that Race will be getting a rematch for the World title in the near future and a win over Gilbert would give him some momentum. But Gilbert has scored big victories in the past that have been surprising. Will it be “Hot Stuff” or Race triumphing in Evansville? • The main event will see two former rivals locking horns again for the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship when current and three-time champion “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson defends against two-time former champion “Exotic” Adrian Street! The feud between these two over the Southern title is a storied one. Danielson was the first wrestler to defeat Street decisively back in February 2017 in this same arena in a non-title match during Street’s first reign. Street and Jim Cornette’s men ended up injuring Danielson’s back twice last year, which added fuel to the fire. The two exchanged the Southern title three times, with Danielson winning it at New Year’s Knockout XIV in Nashville. This will be Street’s first shot at the title since losing it that night. Street has a very strong win-loss record in his two years in the USWA and could very well become a three-time champion. But Danielson is going to put up a fight against the British glam rocker, knowing him very well and knowing what Cornette and Mr. Hughes can do at ringside. Will Street become a three-time champion or will Danielson retain and score another win over Street in this city and arena?
All these huge matches, plus the First Family of Wrestling team of Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, as well as The Fantastics, the first singles match in the USWA for The Barbarian, and Mike Jackson back in action!

Thanks to Victory Roll for the comments!
July 23, 2018 Card #552: Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Coliseum in Evansville
1) “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe picked up a win in the opener over newcomer Mike Jackson. Jackson had the initial advantage and scored near falls after a vertical suplex and later after a running forearm smash. Sharpe blocked an attempted hip toss and took control with a poke to the eyes. He slammed Jackson and hit a knee drop to score a two-count and then followed up with the piledriver for the win in four minutes. *½
2) The Barbarian made short work of “Sodbuster” Kenny Jay. Barbarian was accompanied by Doctor X. Jay charged his opponent right at the bell but got met with a devastating clothesline. The big man stomped on the “Sodbuster” and then went up to the top rope. He came off the top with a flying clothesline, an impressive move for a man of his size. He covered Jay and scored the pinfall in about 70 seconds! DUD
3) The Fantastics defeated Kenny Shane and Johnny Dotson. For the second match in as many weeks, Tommy Rogers and Bobby Fulton kept one of their opponents in the ring for the entire match, this time Shane. The Fantastics hit a back body drop on Shane. Dotson ran in to help his partner but got met with a backdrop as well! Fulton hit a crossbody block for a two-count and then immediately hit a sunset flip to score the pinfall on Shane in four minutes. The fans are definitely getting behind this new tag team! DUD
4) Jackie Fargo scored a pinfall on “Dastardly” Danny Doring in about four minutes. “The Fabulous” Fargo controlled much of the action against the former Mid-America Heavyweight champion. Fargo hit the atomic drop but the momentum of the move sent Doring over the top rope and to the floor. Fargo followed Doring and whipped him into the guard railing. He tossed Doring back into the ring and nailed him with a flurry of punches before delivering a final big right hand to put Doring down for the three-count! Fargo followed up his win with a Fabulous Fargo Strut and he looked ready for a tough bout with Dutch Savage in a few weeks in Tupelo! ½*
5) Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine defeated S.D. and S.T. Jones by disqualification. After “Special Delivery” had some control against Stevens, he tagged to “Soul Train.” Stevens regained control and the First Family of Wrestling team cut the ring in half on him for the rest of the bout. Stevens scored a near fall after a double underhook suplex. Stevens hit the piledriver and then immediately followed up with the Bombs Away. He pulled up S.T.’s shoulders before what might have been the three-count and tagged “The Hammer.” Valentine pounded on S.T. and dragged him to the First Family’s corner, where they pummeled him. Out of frustration, “Soul Train” dropped down and hit Valentine with a low blow right in front of Sam Platania. Platania was left with no choice but to disqualify the Joneses after eight minutes. Jimmy Hart seemed happy that his men got another win, despite Valentine’s pain! *¾
6) Pepper Gomez picked up a huge win over “Classy” Freddie Blassie in 10 minutes. This was a back-and-forth bout. Gomez midway through the bout landed the Mexican Leap and immediately tried for a pin but Blassie kicked out. Blassie took control in a brawl outside the ring, then hit the Southern neckbreaker inside the ring but Gomez managed to kick out. Blassie got cocky and applied a stomach claw on “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach.” The claw had no effect on Gomez, who decked Blassie and then regained control. He got Blassie down on the mat after a flying head scissors, then hit another Mexican Leap and immediately hit the Mexican cradle to score the pinfall! The Evansville fans went wild for Gomez’ impressive victory over the two-time former Southern champion Blassie! ***
7) “The Monday Night Messiah” Tyler Black defeated Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana by disqualification in 16 minutes. Black had his bodyguard and new Mid-America Heavyweight champion Luke Harper with him at ringside, whom Cabana will challenge for the title next month in Jackson, TN. Despite having gone through the grueling Seven Levels of Hate series, Cabana looked ready to compete. He hit a Cabanarama a few minutes into the bout to score a two-count. Black took control midway through the match and executed an STO into the turnbuckle. He covered Cabana but the Chicago native kicked out. Black whipped Cabana into the buckles and delivered two flying forearms back-to-back. He covered Cabana but again the host of The Art of Wrestling kicked out. Black tossed Cabana out of the ring and then followed him. Cabana recovered and the two slugged it out. Harper came from behind with a steel chair but “Boom Boom” saw him coming and blocked the chair shot. He booted the Mid-America champion in the stomach and then grabbed the chair. Out of instinct, he turned and smashed Black with the chair right in front of Tom Branch. Branch called for the bell and disqualified Cabana after 16 minutes. The fans were not happy about this result! ***¼
8) “Wildfire” Tommy Rich and “Superstar” Bill Dundee scored a submission victory over The Heavenly Bodies in another amazing match between these two teams! Just like their meeting last month at the Rupp Arena, this was a competitive action-packed bout. Chris Candido executed a diving head butt on Dundee midway through the bout for a near fall. Tom Prichard tagged in and whipped Dundee into the ropes, then attempted a back body drop. He telegraphed the attempt and Dundee surprised him with a sunset flip for a two-count. Dundee stayed in control and came off the top with the Superstar Bomb but Candido made a save. Rich tagged back in and “The Doctor of Desire” briefly took control. He whipped Rich into the corner but Rich bounced back and surprised him with the Thesz Press. The two collided heads and Prichard was busted open. Rich was shaken up but managed to make a cover. Jim Cornette placed Prichard’s foot on the ropes to break up the pin. A few minutes later, the Bodies had control of the Aussie. Prichard hit two jumping knee drops in a row and went for a cover but Dundee kicked out. Prichard threw Dundee head-first into the top turnbuckle and he was busted open as well. Prichard went for a quick pin with a schoolboy roll-up but Dundee kicked out. Dr. Tom tagged “The Suicide Blonde” and the Bodies hit a double suplex. Candido went for a cover but Dundee again kicked out. Dundee made the hot tag to “Wildfire.” Rich ran wild on Candido and came off the top with a flying body press. Cornette distracted Platania from the pin. The fan favorites stayed in control, with Dundee getting Candido down on the mat. The “Superstar” locked on an Indian Deathlock in the center of the ring. Prichard attempted a save but Rich cut him off with a dropkick, knocking him out of the ring. Candido was trapped and forced to tap out at 32 minutes! The Evansville fans went wild for Rich and Dundee’s big win! *****
9) In a battle of former USWA World champions, Harley Race defeated “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert via disqualification. Gilbert started off the bout strong against Race, hitting a neckbreaker clothesline and a DDT for near falls. He went up to the second rope but before he could leap, “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart got up on the apron and shook the rope, distracting Gilbert. As Gilbert jawed with the manager, Race recovered and hit the vertical suplex, pulling Gilbert off the second rope to hit the move. He covered Gilbert but “Hot Stuff” kicked out. Race followed up with the piledriver but Gilbert kicked out at 2¾. Suddenly, Tommy Gilbert appeared at ringside and got in Hart’s face. Back in the ring, Race hit a second piledriver. An irate Tommy rolled into the ring and attacked Race, leading to Tommy Marlin calling for the bell and disqualifying Eddie after five minutes. Race and Hart quickly headed for the back before the Gilberts could unleash more fury! **¾
10) The main event was for the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship. Current and three-time champion “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson put the title on the line against two-time former champion “Exotic” Adrian Street. The history between these two has been well documented. This was Street’s first shot at the title since Danielson won it from him for the second time at New Year’s Knockout XIV back in December in Nashville. Danielson was very focused in this bout and didn’t get too distracted by Jim Cornette and Mr. Hughes’s presence at ringside. He blasted Street on two separate occasions with missile dropkicks and then kipped up to his feet. He tried for pins both times but the British glam rocker kicked out. Street took control a few minutes later and worked on Danielson’s leg, trying to get a submission with the London Bridge Leglock. Danielson managed to get out of the hold before the “Exotic One” could fully apply it. Street sent Danielson into the buckles but Danielson ran up the buckles and back flipped over the challenger. Street crashed into the buckles and was busted open. Danielson went for a reverse rolling cradle but Street kicked out. Danielson went for the guillotine choke. Street looked trapped but after 30 seconds managed to get to the ropes for a break. Danielson went for the choke again a few moments later. The champion had his back toward the ropes and as Tom Branch checked on Street’s condition did not see Cornette reach in and jab “Dragon” in the back with the tennis racquet. Street was bleeding profusely by this point but took control and went for a submission with the Daffodil. Danielson got to the ropes. Street went back to the leg and locked on the London Bridge again. Danielson was hurting but with the fans behind him, managed to get to the ropes. Street tossed Danielson out of the ring and distracted Branch. Hughes went to ambush Danielson but the Southern champ saw the bodyguard coming and blasted him with a roundhouse kick. Danielson got back up on the ring apron and kicked Street as well before returning to the ring. He grabbed Street and applied another guillotine choke in the center of the ring. With the blood staining the mat and being trapped far away from the ropes, the “Exotic One” was forced to tap out after 20 minutes of action. Branch called for the bell and awarded the bout to the Southern Heavyweight champion Danielson! As Danielson got his arm raised and his belt back in his position, Hughes had recovered and indicated that he has not gotten a rematch for the Southern gold since Danielson regained the title from him in May in April in this same arena. Colt Cabana came out to congratulate Danielson on his win! ****

Questionable tactics notwithstanding, it was very cool that the Monday Night Messiah was able to retain with a technical decision over Cabana... Especially considering how much momentum the challenger had coming into the match following his Seven Levels of Hate triumph.
Thoroughly enjoyed the Rich & Dundee vs. Heavenly Bodies tag team clinic... And Danielson looks to be riding high after that dynamic title defense... Looking forward to a memorable reign for the American Dragon. Awesome stuff!

With Street's recent passing, I was hoping for the upset but it was not meant to be. Great show overall.

Thanks to Victory Roll, Pariah, and Frank for the comments! With Street's recent passing, I was hoping for the upset but it was not meant to be. Great show overall. Just to be clear, I actually rolled that match several months ago and am behind in posting. Where I am at right now, Street is still doing well overall. Wait and see! Highlights from the last two episodes of USWA Championship Wrestling: July 28:• After Bryan Danielson retained the Southern title last week in Evansville, it was confirmed that he will defend against “The Monday Night Messiah” Tyler Black in the main event on August 20 at the West Tennessee State Fairgrounds in Jackson! Black appeared to have the title won when these two met last month in Tuscaloosa but Colt Cabana’s interference (after Luke Harper’s interference) led to a disqualification win. • Commissioner Theodore Long also announced two big matches for the August 13 card at the Louisville Gardens: o The Flying Redheads will take on Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine in a return tag team match! The First Family of Wrestling team got the win last time when these teams battled at Engel Stadium in Chattanooga in May and remain undefeated. This could have ramifications for the World Tag Team title picture! o “Wildfire” Tommy Rich also remains undefeated and will have a big test in Louisville when he battles Mad Dog Vachon! August 4: • The commissioner announced two tag team bouts for the August 20 card in Jackson: o Eddie and Doug Gilbert will team up to take on the First Family of Wrestling’s team of Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine. This will be an interesting match-up, as the Gilberts have had struggles with the First Family in recent months, particularly former World champion Harley Race. While the Gilbert Brothers don’t have as many bouts teaming together, they have earned big wins in the past, particularly over two-time former World Tag Team champions Steve “Dr. Death” Williams and Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy. o Former two-time World Tag Team champions Brad and Brian Armstrong will do battle with Baron Von Raschke and The Barbarian! The Barbarian joined Von Raschke and Mad Dog Vachon against all three Armstrongs at Independence Day Bash and would love to put the whole family out of action! The USWA kicks off the month of August with a huge card at the Tupelo Sports Arena on August 6! • Two undefeated newcomers will collide when “The Fabulous” Jackie Fargo faces Dutch Savage! Both competitors have been impressive since their debuts. This could be a wild brawl! Which grappler will suffer a loss? • Pepper Gomez is coming off a huge win a few weeks ago in Evansville over “Classy” Freddie Blassie. This week, he will take on one of Blassie’s allies—one-half of the World Tag Teams champions Chris Tolos! You can bet that Blassie will send Tolos to put a beating on “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach.” Gomez has stated that he wants a shot at the World Heavyweight championship. What will happen in this bout? • Harley Race will lock up with an old rival when he faces Tommy Gilbert one-on-one! The Gilbert patriarch has come very close in the past to defeating the two-time former World champion. He got involved in his son Eddie’s bout with Race a few weeks ago in Evansville, after Jimmy Hart interfered first. Can Tommy finally get a win over Race? • “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant continues his battles with Jim Cornette’s men. This week, he will face Cornette’s bodyguard and former Southern Heavyweight champion Mr. Hughes! Can “The Boy from New York City” topple the big, powerful Hughes? • In a preview of both title bouts for the August 20 card in Jackson, Southern Heavyweight champion “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson and Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana team up to battle Mid-America Heavyweight champion Luke Harper and “The Monday Night Messiah” Tyler Black! This is an interesting match-up with both champions having their respective challengers on the opposing teams. Which team will gain momentum for their bouts in Jackson? • The main event will be for the USWA World Heavyweight title. The Patriot will make his first defense of his second reign when he battles “Classy” Freddie Blassie! Blassie appeared to have the title in his grasp when he faced Harley Race in June at the Nashville Fairgrounds but interference by his own allies the Tolos Brothers led to a disqualification loss. The Patriot went on to win the title from Race in one of the quickest World title changes in history at Independence Day Bash. Blassie was interviewed on the August 4 episode of Championship Wrestling, flanked by the World Tag Team champions the Toloses. Blassie said that he is not going to walk away without the World title and that the Toloses have assured him that they will be at his side and will have a huge surprise for the Patriot! Blassie is coming off two losses to “Bullet” Bob Armstrong and Pepper Gomez in recent weeks. Can “The King of Men” become the king of the USWA or will the masked American retain? All these bouts, as well as Billy Gunn battling The Barbarian! Plus, The Fantastics take on “Dastardly” Danny Doring and The Amish RoadKill! As well as The Uptown Boys in action and more USWA stars!
