Top notch action from start to finish, my friend... Jannetty & McCord managed to put the tag champs through their paces, but the Tolos Brothers just won those belts and aren't ready to relinquish them quite yet... I'm interested to see how Mr Blassie might affect their title reign when/if he makes his return.
My favorite match was actually Barbarian's squash victory over Brad Armstrong... Superb display of power!

Highlights of USWA Championship Wrestling from 8-18: • Commissioner Teddy Long announced that John and Chris Tolos’ next challengers for the USWA World Tag Team titles will be a team they know very well—former champions The Flying Redheads! Red Bastien and Billy Red Lyons have a great record against the Canadian brothers since the Toloses debuted in the area last year. In fact, the current champions have never scored a decisive win over the Redheads! • Commissioner Long also announced some huge bouts for the big Labor Day card on September 3 from the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville! o The undefeated “Wildfire” Tommy Rich will have a big challenge on his hands when he tangles with two-time former Southern Heavyweight champion “Exotic” Adrian Street! Rich has had some tough bouts with Jim Cornette’s men, namely teaming with “Superstar” Bill Dundee against the Heavenly Bodies and scoring a win on Cornette’s bodyguard Mr. Hughes last month in Knoxville. Can he keep the streak going against the “Exotic One”? o In a rematch from two weeks ago in Tupelo, “The Fabulous” Jackie Fargo will lock up with Dutch Savage! Savage came out the winner last time via disqualification. Both wrestlers, as well as the fans, would love to see a decisive winner emerge this time! o The Fantastics will get their first opportunity for revenge inside the ring against the World Tag Team champion Tolos Brothers when Bobby Fulton goes one-on-one with Chris Tolos! o The Uptown Boys came very close to leaving Louisville last week as the USWA World Tag Team champions. They will have an opportunity to get back into contention when they take on the former champions The Heavenly Bodies!
• An update aired on the condition of two-time former Southern Heavyweight champion “Classy” Freddie Blassie. Blassie was released from the North Mississippi State Hospital last week and returned to his home in St. Louis. He only has about 10% vision at this time. He will receive medical care with doctors in St. Louis, who hope that this vision will return.
The USWA returns to Jackson and makes its debut at the West Tennessee State Fairgrounds on August 20! • Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine continue their winning ways. This week, they will take on the brother duo of Eddie and Doug Gilbert! The Gilberts have scored big tag team wins in the past and could be the ones to end the streak. Given the problems between the Gilberts and the Patriot with the First Family of Wrestling this year, they would love to do that. Can they top Jimmy Hart’s team? • Another tag team match will see the two-time former World Tag Team champions Brad and Brian Armstrong battle Baron Von Raschke and The Barbarian! The Barbarian has been impressive since debuting at Independence Day Bash, as the mystery partner for “The Clawmaster” and Mad Dog Vachon. Can this wild duo beat the former champions? • One of the most heated feuds in the USWA in 2018 will continue, when “Superstar” Bill Dundee battles “Exotic” Adrian Street! Dundee has yet to defeat the British glam rocker, as Jim Cornette and Mr. Hughes have always been the determining factors in their bouts. Can Dundee finally achieve victory? • Another match will take place in the battles between the Armstrongs and Doctor X’s men, when “Bullet” Bob Armstrong faces Mad Dog Vachon! Both of these competitors are tough, no-nonsense grapplers. Who will leave Jackson the victor? • Pepper Gomez continues in his goal of a World Heavyweight title shot. This week, he will face one-half of the World Tag Team champions John Tolos! Gomez, flanked by manager Ed “Strangler” Lewis, stated on Championship Wrestling that he wants to defeat Tolos, not only for a win on his record but to avenge the heinous attack that the Toloses perpetrated on “Classy” Freddie Blassie two weeks ago in Tupelo. Can “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach” defeat Tolos or will the victor’s name be spelled T-O-L-O-S? • In the first of two title matches, Luke Harper will defend the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight championship when he battles Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana! This will be Harper’s first defense of his second reign, as he won the title in impressive fashion from Pepper Gomez at Independence Day Bash in Memphis. Cabana has had an impressive few months as well, winning the Seven Levels of Hate series against his rival “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce at the Bash. Cabana is looking not only to win his first USWA championship in his first time challenging but also gain some revenge for Harper costing him his match against “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe last week at the Louisville Gardens. Will the host of The Art of Wrestling win his first gold or will the big Nebraskan retain? • The main event will be a rematch for the USWA Southern Heavyweight title, as three-time champion “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson defends against “The Monday Night Messiah” Tyler Black! Black came out the victor in their match in June in Tuscaloosa but did not leave the champion, as Colt Cabana’s interference led to a disqualification win. When Black and Luke Harper battled Danielson and Cabana two weeks ago in Tupelo, Black did tap out to the LeBell Lock. But in singles competition, Black has not suffered a loss in 2018 since adopting his “Monday Night Messiah” persona. Can Black win the gold or will “Dragon” triumph again?
All these bouts, plus a rematch from last month in Knoxville, when two-time former World Heavyweight champion “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan battles “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon. Plus, Mike Jackson in action, as well as the House of Humperdink team of Ivan Koloff and Mr. Saito!

August 20, 2018 Card #555: West Tennessee State Fairgrounds in Jackson
1) Ivan Koloff and Mr. Saito got a hard-fought win in the opener over S.D. and S.T. Jones. The House of Humperdink team double teamed “Special Delivery” in the first few minutes, including Koloff using his chain on him, while Saito distracted Tommy Marlin, busting him open. “Soul Train” made the hot tag but got cut off by the Japanese Olympian. Saito hit an Oriental leg sweep (a version of S.T.’s own Russian leg sweep) for a near fall. “The Russian Bear” tagged back in and got “Soul Train” up in a Russian backbreaker. “Philadelphia’s Favorite Son” came in for a save but so did Saito. Marlin saw Saito first and ordered him back to the House of Humperdink’s corner. Meanwhile, “Special Delivery” came in and nailed Koloff in the back with a head butt. Koloff dropped “Soul Train,” who was able to tag. S.D. had some offense but the former USWA champion Koloff took control. He nailed S.D. with a leg drop for a near fall. Saito tagged back in and hit the Saito suplex. He went for a cover but “Soul Train” made a save. Koloff came in and took S.T. to the floor, where he rammed him into the ring post. “The Russian Bear” then tagged back in and followed up shortly thereafter with the Russian Sickle to pin “Special Delivery” after 20 minutes. ***¾
2) The Amish RoadKill scored a victory over Mike Jackson. “The Angry Amish Warrior” scored a near fall after a Barn Burner. Jackson fought back and managed to execute a vertical suplex for a two-count. RoadKill rallied back and hit a backward elbow drop off the second rope for a near fall. He stayed in control and hit a power bomb to score the pinfall after 10 minutes. **¼
3) Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine continued their winning ways with a victory in 18 minutes over Eddie and Doug Gilbert. The Gilberts had the early advantage against former Mid-America champion Stevens but Valentine tagged in and caught Doug in the ring for a few minutes. Stevens hit a jumping knee smash, which drew blood on Doug but Stevens only got a two-count. Valentine tagged back in and locked on the figure-four leglock but Doug made it to the ropes for a break. “Hot Stuff” and “The Crippler” were the legal men a few minutes later. Stevens had the upper hand but Eddie ducked a punch and surprised him with the Hot Shot. Both men were hurt and Eddie wasn’t able to make the cover immediately. Valentine tagged back in and hit a falling elbow hammer on former World champion Eddie for a two-count. Doug tagged back in and had Valentine in trouble. “The Hammer” ducked behind him and hit a belly-to-back suplex and bridged into a pinning position. Valentine was near the First Family of Wrestling’s corner and put a foot on the second rope for leverage, with Stevens holding it in place. Valentine scored the pin before Eddie could get there in time for a save. Despite the illegal leverage, Jimmy Hart’s team continued their win streak! ***¼
4) “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan scored a pinfall on “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon in four minutes. Cannon had some offense but the Boston brawler was focused and dominated much of the match. He blasted Cannon twice with running forearms and then took the fight to the arena floor. He rammed Cannon’s head into the ring bell, while Sir Oliver Humperdink distracted Tommy Marlin. Cannon was busted open. Sullivan tossed him back into the ring, got him down on the mat, and hit the double foot stomp to score the pin. It was a strong win for the two-time former World champion! ¼*
5) Baron Von Raschke and The Barbarian scored an impressive win over two-time former World Tag Team champions Brad and Brian Armstrong. The Armstrongs double teamed “The Clawmaster” for the first few minutes of the bout. Brad executed the Russian leg sweep on the German grappler but the Barbarian made a save. Barbarian tagged in and worked over Brad. Brad took control and knocked him out of the ring with a dropkick. Brad went after Barbarian but Doctor X blocked him and handed an object to the Barbarian. Brad shoved the masked man out of the way but got met with a loaded kick to the head! Tom Branch was occupied with “The Road Dogg” and “The Clawmaster” brawling in one corner of the ring and didn’t see the outside fracas. Barbarian tossed Brad back into the ring, then went up the ropes, and came off with the flying clothesline. He covered Brad and Branch turned around to count the pin before Brian realized what had transpired. It was an impressive win over the former champions in eight minutes! **
6) “Exotic” Adrian Street came out the winner once again over “Superstar” Bill Dundee, this time via disqualification in 10 minutes. The bout was a stiff brawl between these two rivals. Street capitalized on a missed charge in the corner and went for the crucifix a few minutes into the match but Dundee kicked out. Dundee rallied back and looked to have Street defeated with a sleeper. As Street started to drop to the mat, Jim Cornette quickly got up on the ring apron to distract the Aussie “Superstar” and Sam Platania. Dundee released the hold to go after Cornette but Mr. Hughes got in between them. Cornette then ran over to the other side of the ring to revive Street. Street battled back and hit a neckbreaker for a two-count. Dundee rallied and knocked the British glam rocker out of the ring with some big right hands. He followed Street to the floor, where Cornette tried to attack him with the tennis racquet. Dundee saw him coming and knocked down “The Louisville Slugger.” Dundee grabbed the racquet and hit Hughes, as well as Street. Unfortunately, Platania saw the use of the racquet and disqualified Dundee! ***½
7) In another heated brawl, Mad Dog Vachon emerged victorious over “Bullet” Bob Armstrong. Vachon used the Mad Dog Pounce twice during the bout. Armstrong blocked the piledriver, swept Vachon’s legs, and executed a jackknife cradle for a near fall. The bout went to the floor several times, with both men exchanging the advantage. While Doctor X accompanied Vachon, he surprisingly did not get involved. Vachon brutalized “Bullet” Bob inside the ring and delivered a backbreaker, followed by a double foot stomp to get the three-count after 12 minutes. It was a good night for Doctor X and his men in their battles with the Armstrongs! ***¼
8) Pepper Gomez earned a hard-fought victory over one-half of the World Tag Team champions John Tolos in 12 minutes. Tolos worked over “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach,” hitting a backbreaker for a two-count and later using the corkscrew until Gomez made the ropes. Tolos took the bout to the floor and almost scored a countout win, after picking up Gomez over his shoulder and then ramming him head-first into the ring post. With Ed “Strangler” Lewis’ help and encouragement, Gomez made it back into the ring by the count of nine. Gomez came back fighting, sending Tolos flying with a wind-up punch to the stomach. Gomez then clamped on a stomach claw and held it on for nearly a minute. It looked as if Tolos might submit or get pinned but he made it to the ropes for a break. Gomez stayed on the offensive and surprised Tolos with the Mexican cradle to score the pin. The former Southern and Mid-America champion got a big ovation from the Jackson fans, as he got his hand raised with Lewis by his side! ***¾
9) In the first of two championship bouts pitting two duos against each other in two singles matches, Luke Harper retained the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight championship with a pinfall on Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana in 13 minutes. Harper started off the bout the aggressor, taking the match to the floor early. He whipped Cabana into the ringside steps. He tossed Cabana back into the ring and blasted him with the big boot to score a near fall. With the fans on his side, the host of The Art of Wrestling rallied back. He had the champion in trouble and locked him in the Chicago Crab for nearly a minute. Harper managed to pull himself to the ropes for the break. Cabana attempted the Colt .45 but couldn’t get the big man up. He stayed in control and knocked Harper down. Cabana went up to the top rope and attempted a moonsault. Harper got both feet up and gave the Chicago native a double boot to the stomach. Harper covered his dazed challenger and scored the pinfall. It was an impressive win for Harper. (Would his employer Tyler Black have similar success? Read on!) ***½
10) After the pre-main event intermission, Harper was back, this time at ringside accompanying “The Monday Night Messiah” Tyler Black to ringside for his rematch against “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson for the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship in the main event. The action was hard-hitting and fast-paced between these two high-impact wrestlers. The champion had control in the first few minutes of the match. Danielson hit a big suicide dive, driving Black into the guard railing, while Harper was trying to help him recover. The Mid-America champ was knocked down as well. Danielson tossed the challenger back into the ring and went for a cover but Black kicked out. Danielson clamped on the guillotine choke but Black scooted to the ropes for a break. With the Iowan down on his knees, Danielson blasted him with roundhouse kicks, while the Jackson fans chanted “Yes!” with each connection. The last kicked blasted Black in the nose, busting him open. Danielson went for another pin attempt but Black kicked out. Danielson bounced off the ropes but Harper tripped him from the outside. Black took control and hit a reverse STO into the turnbuckles. He was able to get a two-count on the Southern Heavyweight champion. Black continued the attack and executed the curb stomp in the middle of the ring. Danielson looked down and out but “The Monday Night Messiah” took his time playing to the crowd. He finally made a cover but Danielson kicked out. Suddenly, Colt Cabana showed up at ringside to cheer on the champion and keep an eye on Harper. Black came off the ropes with a diving knee strike to score another near fall. Black took his time in attacking again and finally went for another diving knee strike. Danielson dodged the attack and Black crashed hard. Danielson went for a cover but Black kicked out. “Dragon” went up top and hit a missile dropkick. He kipped up to his feet. Before he could make a cover, the Mid-America champion had climbed up on the apron and distracted Tommy Marlin. Cabana came over and pulled the bodyguard off the apron. The two started to brawl and Marlin turned his attention to that, not seeing Black having grabbed the Southern title belt from the announcers’ table at ringside. Black smashed Danielson in the head with it and then tossed it. Cabana sent Harper into the stairs, as a small measure of revenge from their earlier Mid-America title bout. Marlin turned his attention back to the match, as Black delivered a second curb stomp to the champion. He went for a cover and Marlin went to count. He counted 1, 2…but as he looked about to count three, Cabana had jumped into the ring and attacked Black. Marlin was left with no choice but to call for the bell and disqualify Danielson after 25 minutes. For the second time, Black emerged the winner due to interference from Cabana but didn’t leave the Southern champion. ****½

Despite earning a whopping four and half stars, the highly anticipated title match between Danielson and Black fails to render a conclusive decision... This program has reached a fever pitch and I cannot wait to see what's next!

Highlights from the last two editions of USWA Championship Wrestling:
August 25: • Commissioner Theodore R. Long had a lot of big announcements for the coming weeks for USWA cards! First off, he announced more bouts for the USWA’s return to West Memphis, AR and West Memphis Jr. High School on September 10! o Luke Harper will put the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight title on the line against former champion “Dastardly” Danny Doring! This will be Doring’s rematch for the title after he lost the title back to Pepper Gomez back in June in Tuscaloosa. o “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant will battle “Exotic” Adrian Street! Valiant, along with “Superstar” Bill Dundee and “Wildfire” Tommy Rich have had their problems with Jim Cornette’s men. Valiant had his legs injured by Street and Mr. Hughes back in May in Engel Stadium in Chattanooga. Who will win this latest chapter in this feud?
• For the September 17 card at the Rupp Arena in Lexington, the commissioner announced that the main event will feature “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson defending the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship against Mr. Hughes! Hughes captured the title from Danielson in March in Jackson but Danielson won his third Southern title by defeating Jim Cornette’s bodyguard in April in Evansville. This will be Hughes’s rematch since losing the title. • Commissioner Long verified that “The Monday Night Messiah” Tyler Black will receive another shot at the USWA Southern Heavyweight title, as a result of scoring his second disqualification win over champion Bryan Danielson last week in Jackson.
September 1: • Commissioner Long announced another match-up for September 10 in West Memphis. “Wildfire” Tommy Rich will do battle with “The Clawmaster” Baron Von Raschke! • The commissioner also added these matches to the September 17 card at the Rupp Arena in Lexington: o One-half of the World Tag Team champions John Tolos will battle one-half of the Fantastics Tommy Rogers! Rogers was put out of action for six months thanks to the Toloses and he will get his first opportunity to get his hands on one of the Canadian brothers! o “Bullet” Bob Armstrong will go one-on-one with The Barbarian! The undefeated Barbarian made his debut at Independence Day Bash as the mystery partner of Mad Dog Vachon and Baron Von Raschke. The Armstrongs got the victory in that six-man tag team match but the Barbarian nailed Bob with a loaded boot after the bell. “Bullet” Bob is hoping to avenge that attack and give the big man his first loss! o Speaking of the Armstrongs, two-time former World Tag Team champions Brad and Brian will take on the undefeated First Family of Wrestling tag team of Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine in a first-time meeting! Jimmy Hart and his team were interviewed in studio by Lance Russell. “The Mouth of The South” complained that his duo has defeated everyone who has stepped in their path and they should have earned a World Tag Team title shot a long time ago! He said that they will prove they belong by defeating the former champions!
The USWA wraps up a hot summer with a hot night of action on Labor Day—September 3 at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville! • In a rematch from last month in Tupelo, “The Fabulous” Jackie Fargo will take on Dutch Savage! The brawler Savage got the win the last time via disqualification. Who will leave “Music City” the victor this time? • One-half of the World Tag Team champions Chris Tolos will take on one-half of the Fantastics Bobby Fulton! Fulton was recruited by Tommy Rogers to be his new partner to gain revenge on the Tolos Brothers for his injury from this past December. Can Fulton defeat the younger Tolos? • In tag team competition, the former World Tag Team champions The Heavenly Bodies will take on The Uptown Boys! Both teams are hoping to earn a win to get in line for a shot at the tag team gold. Which team will triumph? • Another one of Jim Cornette’s men will be in action when two-time former Southern Heavyweight champion “Exotic” Adrian Street takes on “Wildfire” Tommy Rich! Rich remains undefeated as of this date but he will have a tough challenge in Street, who can find a variety of ways to win, plus has Cornette and Mr. Hughes backing him up at ringside! Can the British glam rocker end Rich’s streak or will “Wildfire” come fired up in his home state? • In a rematch from a few weeks ago at the Louisville Gardens, “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach” Pepper Gomez will take on the First Family of Wrestling’s King Kong Bundy! Bundy got the win last time via disqualification when Ed “Strangler” Lewis got involved after Jimmy Hart had interfered. Can Gomez topple the New Jersey giant as he hopes to earn a shot at the World Heavyweight title? • Speaking of the USWA World Heavyweight championship, the current and two-time champion The Patriot will defend against two-time former champion Harley Race in the main event! These two have exchanged the title three times so far in 2018, with the masked man winning the belt from Race in March in Lexington, as well as giving Race his first loss since his 2017 return. Race regained the gold in April in Lexington but the masked American won it again on America’s birthday at Independence Day Bash at Tim McCarver Stadium in a match with no one allowed at ringside. Their bouts have been back and forth. Who will end the summer as the World champion?
All these huge bouts, plus “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan battles Mad Dog Vachon! As well as a rematch from July in Evansville, as the First Family of Wrestling team of Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine takes on S.D. and S.T. Jones! Plus, “Dastardly” Danny Doring, as well as the team of Baron Von Raschke and The Barbarian!

September 3, 2018 (Labor Day) Card #556: Memorial Auditorium in Nashville
1) Baron Von Raschke and The Barbarian were victorious in the opener over Hillbilly Jim and Cousin Luke in 20 minutes. The rulebreakers double teamed Jim for several minutes. Luke tagged in but Barbarian cut him off and executed two shoulder breakers for near falls. Jim later took over on “The Clawmaster” and caught him in the bear hug but Von Raschke broke the hold with an eye rake. Barbarian tagged back in and sent Jim into the corner. He charged in for a tackle but Jim blocked him by catching him in a head scissors and kicking him on the top of the head. Barbarian was knocked down and Jim went for a pin but Barbarian kicked out. The German grappled tagged back in but Luke ran wild, hitting the Hillbilly Drop for a two-count. Von Raschke tagged back to the Barbarian, who nailed Luke with a running clothesline, then came off the top rope with the flying clothesline to score the pin, while Von Raschke kept Jim at bay. Doctor X stood with his team as they got their hands raised! ***¼
2) “Dastardly” Danny Doring scored a quick pinfall on “Sodbuster” Kenny Jay. Doring was aggressive from the opening bell. He got Jay down on the mat and came off the top with the Danaconda to score the winning pinfall in 90 seconds. Doring looked impressive but he will have a tougher challenge next week in West Memphis when he faces Luke Harper to try to regain the Mid-America Heavyweight championship! DUD
3) Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine of the First Family of Wrestling were victorious over S.D. and S.T. Jones. The Joneses had the early advantage, with “Soul Train” hitting the Russian leg sweep on Stevens for a near fall. Stevens recovered against “Special Delivery” and the First Family kept him in the ring the remainder of the match, making frequent tags. Valentine scored the pin in six minutes after he and Stevens executed a double team atomic drop and “The Crippler” ran over and knocked S.T. off the ring apron to ensure he wouldn’t make a save. Stevens and Valentine scored their 13th win and looked deserving of a World Tag Team title shot! **¼
4) “The Fabulous” Jackie Fargo gave Dutch Savage his first pinfall loss in the USWA. This was another wild bout between these two that went to the floor several times. Savage scored near falls after a belly-to-back suplex, as well as a double ax-handle. Fargo rallied back and knocked down Savage after a roaring forearm. He followed up with a jumping stomp and scored the pinfall in six minutes. After Jerry Calhoun raised his hand in victory, Fargo executed the Fabulous Fargo Strut. Savage was hurting from the stomp but had enough strength to go into his boot and pulled out some type of foreign object. He jammed the object into Fargo’s throat and then stomped his throat! Several USWA officials ran down to the ring to prevent Savage from unleashing more damage. Fargo was in a lot of pain, as he was escorted to the back. **½
5) Mad Dog Vachon scored a big win over two-time former World Heavyweight champion “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan in a surprising fashion. The action was wild from the opening bell, with an all-out brawl. The Algerian got the upper hand and choked Sullivan on the middle rope. He then rebounded off the opposite ropes and hit the Mad Dog Pounce. He pulled Sullivan off the ropes and scored the pinfall in about 75 seconds. Fans were shocked by the quick win! neg*
6) One-half of the World Tag Team champions Chris Tolos scored a pinfall victory over Bobby Fulton. Both wrestlers were accompanied to the ring by their respective tag team partners. Tolos worked over Fulton with a running stomp. He used the flying knee drop twice during the bout but Fulton kicked out. Fulton surprised the World Tag Team champion with a small package for a near fall. Tolos hit a running boot but Fulton kicked out. The Canadian grappler hit a second running boot and again went for a cover but this time put his feet on the second rope to score the pin in about seven minutes. The Toloses celebrated Chris’s victory and retreated before Fulton and Tommy Rogers could attack! **¾
7) The Heavenly Bodies got a countout victory in very tainted fashion over The Uptown Boys in eight minutes. Tom Prichard and Chris Candido worked over Marty Jannetty in the first few minutes, hitting a Flapjack and later the Prime Donna Plunge. As Jerry Calhoun was trying to get Dr. Tom out of the ring, Ric McCord took advantage and hit a dropkick to Candido’s face to break up the pin attempt. This allowed Jannetty to get to the Uptown Boys’ corner and make the hot tag. McCord ran wild on “The Suicide Blonde.” He hit a fireman’s carry slam but before he could make a cover, Jim Cornette got up on the ring apron to distract Calhoun. McCord ran over and went after Cornette. “The Louisville Slugger” sprinted up the aisle but McCord followed. Jannetty and Prichard started to brawl in the ring, which diverted Calhoun’s attention and he didn’t see Mr. Hughes ambush McCord with a clothesline. Hughes followed up with the spike slam on the arena floor, then he and Cornette returned to the ringside area. Calhoun saw the legal man on the floor and began to count out McCord. Jannetty saw his partner down and went to help but couldn’t get there in time, as Calhoun hit 10 and awarded the bout to the Bodies! **¾
8) “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach” Pepper Gomez earned a hard-fought victory over King Kong Bundy. The New Jersey giant had control early and looked as if he might get the win, as he landed a knee drop to the head for a two-count. Gomez briefly had control and trapped Bundy in the corner but Bundy blasted him with another knee smash. He went for a cover on the former Southern and Mid-America champion but Gomez again kicked out. Gomez took control and got the big man down on the mat. He went for the Mexican cradle but Bundy kicked out. Gomez landed the Mexican Leap right across Bundy’s nose and busted him open. He followed up immediately with the cradle but again Bundy kicked out. Gomez went for another cradle a few minutes later but Jimmy Hart distracted Paul Neighbors. Gomez’ manager Ed “Strangler” Lewis came around the ring to remind Hart of his presence. “The Mouth of The South” quickly fled from the six-time former USWA champion! Gomez stayed on the offensive and executed another cradle to finally score the pinfall on a bloody Bundy after eight minutes. It was an impressive win for the Mexican superstar! ***½
9)“Wildfire” Tommy Rich continued his winning ways by rallying back to score a pinfall on two-time former Southern Heavyweight champion “Exotic” Adrian Street. The British glam rocker looked as if he might give Rich his first loss in the USWA, as he had early control and went for a submission with the Daffodil. Rich made the ropes but Street stayed in control, hitting a big splash for a two-count. Street caught Rich in the crucifix but “Wildfire” got a shoulder up at 2¾. Street went for a submission with a Cobra Clutch. Rich started to drop to the mat. Frank Morrell checked Rich’s arm. It dropped twice but right before the third, it popped back up and Rich fought to his feet. He reversed the move and caught Street in the sleeper. The fans went wild but Street made the ropes. Street rolled out of the ring for a breather and a consultation with Jim Cornette and Mr. Hughes. Rich followed and rammed Street’s and Hughes’s heads together with a noggin’ knocker! Rich returned to the ring and Street crawled back up onto the apron. Rich executed a vertical suplex, bringing Street back into the ring the hard way to score a two-count. Rich stayed on the offensive and hit a piledriver a few moments later to put the “Exotic One” down for the count after 10 minutes. The “Music City” fans gave their local hero a big ovation for his win, as he went to 11-0 overall! Rich’s tag team partner and Street’s rival “Superstar” Bill Dundee made a surprise appearance, congratulating him on his big win! ***¾
10) The main event was a rematch from Independence Day Bash for the USWA World Heavyweight championship. The current and two-time champion The Patriot put the gold on the line against two-time former champion Harley Race. When the masked American won the title on America’s birthday, no one was allowed at ringside. Tonight, the challenger was accompanied by his manager “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart. The champion was accompanied from the start by “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert, who wanted to keep an eye on Hart, due to the recent battles between the Gilberts and the Patriot and the various First Family of Wrestling members.
Race had control at the opening bell. About two minutes into the bout, he executed the vertical suplex on the champion and scored a two-count. He went for a second suplex but again got a two-count. Race setup the champion for the piledriver but the Patriot backdropped out of the move and went for a pin attempt but Race kicked out. The Patriot stayed on the offensive and had Race in trouble. He went for a body slam but Race blocked it and caught him in a small package. Race hooked the tights as well. Jerry Calhoun counted the Patriot’s shoulders down for the count and called for the bell after six minutes. He awarded Race the USWA World Heavyweight title for the third time! The pin came out of nowhere and fans were shocked, as were Patriot and Gilbert! They tried to protest the use of the tights to Calhoun but to no avail, as Race and Hart returned to the back with the World Heavyweight title belt back in their possession! *
