Thanks to Victory Roll and Neilybob for the comments!
Happy River Rumble weekend, everybody!
Highlights from USWA Championship Wrestling on September 8: • The USWA returns to the Soldiers & Sailors Coliseum in Evansville on October 8! On this edition, Commissioner Theodore R. Long had some announcements for this card. o The main event will see the now-three time USWA World Heavyweight champion Harley Race of the First Family of Wrestling defend the title against “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach” Pepper Gomez! This will be Gomez’ first-ever shot at the World title. He acquired the services of six-time former champion Ed “Strangler” Lewis with the goal of challenging for and winning the World title! o It was revelead that Doctor X will be cleared from his concussion by this Evansville card. In response to this news, the Armstrongs were interviewed in studio and issued a huge challenge. “Bullet” Bob said that just like the rest of the wrestling world, he and his family want to know who’s under the Doctor X mask! Brad said that they found out the masked man will be cleared from his concussion in the next month. Brian said that they would like to challenge X and all three of his men to an Elimination Match in Evansville where if the Armstrongs’ team wins, X must finally unmask and reveal his true identity! Lance Russell asked if the Armstrongs planned to battle X’s group three-on-four in a Handicap Match. Bob responded that Lance and the rest of the USWA don’t need to worry about that, they need to first worry if their challenge will be answered! There was no response from Doctor X or his men at this time.
• Two more huge bouts were added to the September 17 card at the Rupp Arena in Lexington! o In a tag team rematch from last week in Nashville, The Uptown Boys will face the former World Tag Team champions The Heavenly Bodies! The Uptown Boys came very close to a victory last week until Jim Cornette and Mr. Hughes turned the tide and got a countout win for Dr. Tom Prichard and “The Suicide Blonde” Chris Candido! o In a rematch from July in Evansville, Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana will tangle with “The Monday Night Messiah” Tyler Black! When these two met one-on-one last time, Black’s bodyguard Mid-America Heavyweight champion Luke Harper tried to attack Cabana with a chair but the Chicago native intercepted the chair and used it on both Harper and Black, leading to a DQ win for the Iowa native. Cabana’s interference, precepted by Harper’s interference, has led to Black getting two DQ wins over Southern Heavyweight champion “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson but leaving without the Southern title. This should be an interesting match-up! • It was announced that “The Fabulous” Jackie Fargo sustained a throat injury in the attack by Dutch Savage after their bout last week in Nashville but should only miss a few weeks of in-ring action. • Another update was given on “Classy” Freddie Blassie. Blassie’s vision remains very impaired and the doctors do not know if there is a chance that the vision will return. They continue to hold out hope but his in-ring career may be in jeopardy.
The USWA returns to West Memphis, AR and the West Memphis Jr. High School on September 10! • The undefeated Barbarian will take on “The Road Dogg” Brian Armstrong in singles competition! Barbarian was brought in by Doctor X’s unit when X suffered a concussion and has been very impressive. Armstrong is a former Mid-America Heavyweight champion and has some great singles skills. Can he give the powerhouse Barbarian his first loss or will the Barbarian triumph again? • Jim Cornette’s bodyguard and former Southern Heavyweight champion Mr. Hughes will take on one-half of the Uptown Boys—Marty Jannetty! Hughes interfered in the Uptown Boys’ bout with the Heavenly Bodies in Nashville last week, leading to a countout victory. It was announced on WMC-TV that McCord suffered a minor back injury from Hughes’s spike slam on the floor but should not miss much action. Jannetty will be looking for vengeance against the powerhouse from Kansas. But Hughes has his sun-glassed sights set on regaining the Southern Heavyweight title from “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson in next week’s main event in Lexington. • “Wildfire” Tommy Rich hopes to continue his winning ways when he faces “The Clawmaster” Baron Von Raschke! Rich scored an impressive win over “Exotic’ Adrian Street last week in Nashville. He hopes to continue his streak but has to be careful of the German grappler and particularly his brain claw. Can Rich go to 12-0? • Speaking of “Exotic” Adrian Street, the two-time former Southern Heavyweight champion will be in action against Rich’s ally two-time former World Heavyweight champion “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant! Valiant, Rich, and “Superstar” Bill Dundee have had their issue with Jim Cornette’s stable this year. The last time Valiant and Street met one-on-one was in May at Engel Stadium in Chattanooga, with Street coming out the winner, and then he and Mr. Hughes injuring Valiant’s legs. • In the first of two title bouts, Luke Harper will put the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight championship on the line against former champion “Dastardly” Danny Doring! Doring shocked the wrestling world when firstly he won the 15-man Battle Royal at Derby City Stampede to earn a title shot against then-champion Pepper Gomez. Secondly, Doring went on to win the title from Gomez a few weeks later on Memorial Day at Engel Stadium in Chattanooga. Gomez regained the title from Doring the following month in Tuscaloosa, AL but Harper won his second Mid-America title from “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach” nine days later at Independence Day Bash in Memphis. Harper is a powerful, vicious competitor but Doring seems to be an opportunist and knows how to win out of nowhere. Who will leave West Memphis the Mid-America champion? • The main event will be for the USWA World Tag Team titles. Current champions and two of the most despised men in the USWA, John and Chris Tolos will defend the titles against former champions The Flying Redheads! The Canadian brothers have proven to be an effective duo but they do not have a decisive win over Red Bastien and Billy Red Lyons. Will the Redheads win the gold for the second time or can the Toloses retain?
All these bouts, plus Dutch Savage faces Brad Armstrong! As well as a rematch from last month at the Louisville Gardens, when Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana faces “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe! Plus, the First Family of Wrestling’s team of Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, as well as The Fantastics in action!

Thanks to Victory Roll and Neilybob for the comments!
September 10, 2018 Card #557: West Memphis (AR) Jr. High School
1) The Fantastics continued their winning ways with a quick win over George South and Memphis, TN native Pat Hutchinson in about one minute and 38 seconds. Bobby Fulton took control of South and tagged to Tommy Rogers. The Fantastics hit a double back elbow and then Rogers caught South in a sleeper. South dropped to the mat and Paul Morton checked his arm. It dropped three times, so the Fantastics picked up a submission win before Hutchinson could tag into the bout. The Fantastics continue to impress and you can bet Rogers is looking forward to getting his hands on World Tag Team champion John Tolos next week in Lexington! DUD
2) Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana avenged his loss from last month in Louisville with a strong win over “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe in about four minutes. The host of The Art of Wrestling largely dominated the action. He locked Sharpe in the Chicago Crab and got a tap out. The West Memphis fans gave the Chicago native a big ovation for his win! DUD
3) Dutch Savage picked up an impressive win over Brad Armstrong. Armstrong gave Savage a lot of frustration. Savage rolled out of the ring for a breather. He pulled a foreign object out of his boot, similar to what he used on Jackie Fargo last week in Nashville. Armstrong leaned through the ropes to grab Savage but Savage jabbed him in the throat with the foreign object. He slipped the object back into his boot, then returned to the ring. He hit a knee drop and then covered Armstrong near enough to the ropes to put his own feet on the middle rope for leverage. The tactics were enough to put Armstrong down for the pinfall after four-and-a-half minutes. The West Memphis fans berated Savage with boos as he got his hand raised! ½*
4) Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine scored a quick win on Jake “The Milkman” Milliman and “Sodbuster” Kenny Jay. Milliman went after Stevens at the bell but the former Mid-America champ took over and wore down Milliman. He hit the piledriver near the First Family’s corner and scored the pinfall in about 90 seconds before either man’s partner could tag into the bout. Jimmy Hart was ecstatic by the quick win and indicated once again that Stevens and Valentine deserve a shot at the World Tag Team titles! DUD
5) “The Road Dogg” Brian Armstrong gave The Barbarian his first loss in the USWA. The Barbarian, accompanied by Doctor X, had control in the first part of the bout. He pummeled Armstrong to the mat and hit an elbow drop for a near fall. The former Mid-America champion Armstrong rallied back and went for the pump handle slam but Barbarian powered out of the attempt. Armstrong hit a DDT and went for a cover but Doctor X put Barbarian’s foot under the bottom rope. Scott Bowden missed the interference but saw the foot on the ropes. Armstrong saw it and tried to go after the masked man but Bowden intervened. Meanwhile, X slipped an object into Barbarian’s boot. Barbarian got to his feet and blasted Armstrong with a loaded kick. He made a cover but “The Road Dogg” kicked out at 2¾. The Barbarian allowed Armstrong to get to his feet so he could deliver another loaded big boot. Armstrong turned around and the Barbarian charged but Armstrong ducked the boot, got behind him, and rolled him up with a schoolboy to score the pinfall out of nowhere! Armstrong was still shook up but managed to get his arm raised and get back to the locker room, while the West Memphis fans gave him a big ovation! **½
6) Marty Jannetty pulled off a big singles win over former Southern Heavyweight champion Mr. Hughes in a 22-minute battle! Perhaps Jim Cornette’s bodyguard underestimated Jannetty being smaller and less powerful but the Georgian took it right to Hughes, wanting revenge for Hughes’s attack on Ric McCord last week during the Uptown Boys’ match with the Heavenly Bodies in Nashville. While Hughes had the early advantage, he telegraphed a back body drop attempt and Jannetty surprised him with a sunset flip for a near fall. Jannetty knocked the big man down with a dropkick for another two-count. Jannetty came off the top rope with a flying body press and made a cover but “The Louisville Slugger” distracted Joe Wheeler. Jannetty executed the Rocker Dropper, driving Hughes’s face hard into the mat and busting him open. The Uptown Boy went for a cover but Cornette reached in and slapped Jannetty in the face, which Wheeler did not see. Jannetty was irate and went after the manager on the outside, which allowed Hughes the chance to recover and to take control. He tried to wear down Jannetty with a lifting chokehold, releasing before the five-count but then picking Jannetty up again and choking him. Hughes went for a dropkick of his own but Jannetty dodged the attack and Hughes crashed hard. As Hughes got back to his feet, Jannetty blasted him with a superkick. Hughes was dazed but wouldn’t go down to the mat. Jannetty grabbed him and executed a second Rocker Dropper to score the pinfall. Cornette was in shock by the results, as the West Memphis fans went wild for Jannetty! ***¼
7) “Wildfire” Tommy Rich continued his winning ways by defeating Baron Von Raschke by DQ in about four minutes. “The Clawmaster” looked as if he might end Rich’s winning streak, as he had a lot of control in this brief bout. He hit a back suplex on Rich and then knocked him out of the ring. The German grappler followed Rich but Rich caught him off guard with some big punches. Von Raschke was dazed but had enough wherewithal to grab a steel chair from the ringside area. He smashed Rich in the back with it, right in front of Paul Morton’s site. Morton was left with no choice but to call for the bell and disqualify Von Raschke. Von Raschke stomped his way back to the locker room, while Morton raised Rich’s hand. You can bet that this chair shot has Rich fired up for a rematch in the near future! ¼*
8) “Exotic” Adrian Street emerged victorious over “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant by disqualification after a competitive 32-minute match. The British glam rocker started off the bout aggressively against “The Boy from New York City,” hitting a neckbreaker for a near fall in the opening minutes and then trying for the crucifix but only getting a two-count. Street continued on the attack and went for a submission with the Daffodil but “Boogie Woogie” boogie woogied his way to the ropes for a break. Street tried for the London Bridge leglock but before he could fully apply it, Valiant kicked him into the turnbuckles. Street hit the mat and Valiant signaled for the Boogie Woogie elbow. With Jim Cornette yelling instructions, the “Exotic One” rolled out of the ring to avoid the attack. “Handsome” Jimmy reached over the ropes and pulled “Exotic” Adrian up to the apron by his hair. Street cut him off with an eye rake and returned to the ring. Later, Street had Valiant down on the mat and went for a running splash but Valiant rolled out of the way and then took over with some big roundhouse punches. He knocked Street down and went for a cover but Street kicked out. Valiant sent Street into the ropes and hit a running elbow smash. Before he could make a pin attempt, Cornette jumped up on the ring apron. Valiant threatened Cornette, who quickly jumped into Mr. Hughes’s arms. (Hughes had his head bandaged and blood on his dress shirt from his earlier bout with Marty Jannetty.) Valiant had control and sent Street out of the ring again. “Boogie Woogie” followed. Cornette got up on the apron again, on the other side of the ring and distracted Scott Bowden. Outside the ring, Hughes came over and nailed Valiant with a big right hand. Street grabbed Valiant in a front facelock, while Hughes took “The Louisville Slugger’s” tennis racquet and cracked Valiant across the back. He and Street rolled the two-time former World Heavyweight champion back into the ring. Suddenly, “Superstar” Bill Dundee made a surprise appearance since he wasn’t booked to wrestle on this card. He ran down to ringside and nailed Hughes with some stiff punches. Street took Valiant down with the crucifix again but as Bowden went to count, Dundee jumped in the ring and stomped away on the British glam rocker. Bowden was left with no choice but to call for the bell and disqualify “The Boogie Woogie Man.” Street, Hughes, and Cornette quickly retreated to the locker room, as soon as Street got his hand raised in victory to avoid any further retaliation from Valiant and Dundee! ****
9) Luke Harper scored a dominant victory over “Dastardly” Danny Doring to retain the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight championship. Harper sent Doring flying out of the ring with the big boot. Doring was almost counted out but with the Amish RoadKill’s assistance got back into the ring by the count of nine. Harper continued his onslaught and hit a crushing package piledriver to score the pinfall in four minutes. The West Memphis fans gave Harper some cheers of respect tonight for his impressive performance. ¼*
10) The main event was for the USWA World Tag Team championship. Current champions John and Chris Tolos put the titles on the line against the former champions and their rivals The Flying Redheads. Going into this bout, the Toloses had never defeated their challengers in a decisive fashion. Knowing the Redheads’ track record against them, the champions charged them right at the bell, knocking Billy Red Lyons out of the ring and double teaming Red Bastien. They made frequent tags in the first few minutes. John went for the corkscrew and looked as if he might get a quick submission but Bastien made the ropes. After some more double teaming by the champions, Bastien fought back and knocked John down after several dropkicks. He then made the hot tag to Lyons, who had recovered from the ambush at the start of the match. Lyons worked over fellow Canadian John until John managed to tag Chris. Chris worked over Lyons and tossed him outside the ring. Chris followed, while John jumped in the ring to distract Paul Morton and Bastien. Outside the ring, Chris grabbed one of the World Tag Team title belts and clocked Lyons in the head with it. Chris returned to the ring and got Morton’s attention to start a 10-count. Bastien ran over and helped Lyons, who was very dazed back into the ring by the count of nine. Bastien returned to the Redheads’ corner, while Chris tagged John and the champions hit their double team version of the flying knee drop. John went for a cover but Bastien made a save. Chris came in and raked Bastien’s eyes with his elbow pad, then tossed him out of the ring. Chris returned to the champions’ corner, as John continued to work on Lyons. Lyons ducked a punch and then surprised John with a rolling reverse cradle. As John was pushed into the ropes, it was on the same side of the ring as the Toloses’ corner and he was able to reach out and tag Chris. Morton saw this and although Lyons had John on his shoulders, he couldn’t count the pin. Chris came in and booted Lyons in the face to break up the cradle. John returned to the Toloses’ corner and undid the turnbuckle pad on the top rope. Chris smashed Lyons’ face into the exposed buckle, shielding Morton from seeing the exposed metal. Lyons was very shaken up and Chris delivered a running boot to the face for good measure. He covered Lyons and scored the pin after 11 minutes to retain the World Tag Team titles! Bastien had recovered on the outside and tried a pin save but was too late. The West Memphis fans berated the Tolos Brothers with boos as they got their hands raised and were handed their title belts! **¾

Thanks to Victory Roll, Neilybob, and Troy for the comments!
Highlights from USWA Championship Wrestling on 9-15: • Commissioner Theodore R. Long announced some more matches for the October 8 card at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Coliseum in Evansville! o Mad Dog Vachon spoke on behalf of Doctor X and their group in response to the Armstrongs’ challenge for an Elimination Match. He said that he wanted the family in person to answer their challenge and he had invited the Armstrongs to the WMC-TV Studios. Bob, Brad, and Brian came into the studio. The Algerian brawler stated that he, X, Baron Von Raschke, and The Barbarian would accept the challenge, only with an added stipulation. If the Armstrongs’ team lose, all three of them must leave the USWA for one full year! “Bullet” Bob spoke to his sons and they quickly responded they were willing to risk that! Vachon then cackled and told the Armstrongs to find a fourth partner. Bob said they already had and they are ready to announce that partner. Bob revealed that their fourth partner will be four-time former USWA World Heavyweight champion Lou Thesz, a man that knows Doctor X very well! The rulebreakers were blindsided by this announcement! “The Road Dogg” said that Thesz will speak for himself next week on Championship Wrestling! o Another huge tag team match will see the World Tag Team champions John and Chris Tolos face “Wildfire” Tommy Rich and “Superstar” Bill Dundee in a non-title match! Rich and Dundee have proven to be an effective tag team in their few outings together. Rich made his debut in March in Nashville teaming with Dundee and “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant to defeat the Toloses and “Classy” Freddie Blassie and now Rich and Dundee are fighting in honor of Blassie! o “The Fabulous” Jackie Fargo will return from injury and will be looking for revenge when battles Dutch Savage!
• The commissioner announced the Toloses’ next defense of the USWA World Tag Team titles. In the main event on October 15 at the Civic Coliseum in Knoxville, the Canadian brothers will defend against the undefeated First Family of Wrestling team of Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine! Some wrestling experts feel that the First Family is overdue for this title shot, as they have 14 wins by pinfall or submission as of this writing. • Sir Oliver Humperdink was interviewed in-studio. The manager of the House of Humperdink revealed that two-time former World Heavyweight champion “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan has decided to leave the USWA for now. He plans to meditate on more evil ways to dominate professional wrestling and Humperdink feels that he will be back in the USWA in the future. Lance Russell asked if Humperdink has any plans to sign any new wrestlers to the House. The manager responded that he has his sights set on a former USWA World Tag Team and Southern Heavyweight champion and that he hopes to have an update for the wrestling world soon!
The USWA returns to the Rupp Arena in Lexington on September 17! • Former Mid-America Heavyweight champion and one-half of the Fantastics Tommy Rogers will take on one-half of the World Tag Team champions John Tolos! This bout is extra personal for Rogers, who was put out of action by the Toloses back in December in Memphis. Can Rogers avenge that heinous attack? • “Bullet” Bob Armstrong will take on The Barbarian! The Armstrongs gained some momentum for their upcoming Elimination Match with Doctor X’s team, with Brian Armstrong handing the Barbarian his first loss last week in West Memphis. Can the Armstrong patriarch have similar success? • In a rematch from two weeks ago in Nashville, The Uptown Boys will take on The Heavenly Bodies! Tom Prichard and Chris Candido got the win via countout on Labor Day when Mr. Hughes gave Ric McCord a gut wrench on the floor. Marty Jannetty gained a measure of revenge on the bodyguard, pinning him in West Memphis last week. The Uptown Boys hope to have similar success against the Bodies. Can they do it or will the Bodies pull out a win again? • A big grudge match has been added as Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana will take on “The Monday Night Messiah” Tyler Black! Cabana’s interference (after Mid-America champ Luke Harper’s interference first) has cost Black the Southern Heavyweight title on two occasions against “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson. Black would love to get a win over the host of The Art of Wrestling! Can he do so or will Cabana triumph? • Before they challenge the Tolos Brothers for the World Tag Team titles on October 15, Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valetnine will face another brother tag team—two-time former champions Brad and Brian Armstrong! This will be a first-time match-up. Can Stevens and Valentine continue their win streak or will the Armstrongs score a big win? • The main event will see current and three-time USWA Southern Heavyweight championship “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson defend the title against former champion Mr. Hughes! Hughes captured the title from Danielson back in March in Jackson but “Dragon” regained it the following month in Evansville. This will be Hughes’s return bout for the title. In this third reign, “Dragon” not only won the title back from Hughes but has retained against two of Jim Cornette’s other charges: the now-departed “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce in May in Johnson City and two-time former champ “Exotic” Adrian Street in July in Evansville. The champ has a knack for finding ways to defeat larger opponents but Hughes is going to be going into the bout outraged after his loss to Marty Jannetty last week in West Memphis. Can Danielson retain the Southern gold or will the bodyguard regain the belt?
All these bouts, plus Dutch Savage battles Doug Gilbert! Plus, “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach” Pepper Gomez, Mad Dog Vachon, and more USWA stars in action!
