Pariah - Thanks. Sometimes these guys' voices pop up in my head doing a promo and I write it down, hoping to find a spot for it in my fed. I've seen Silas Young drop some funny lines and I'm glad I'm able to mimic him a little here. As for reDRagon/Affluence - I guess, either way, you win?
cruefan68 - Here you guys go again, besmirching Veda Scott. She is innocent. Just ask her.
SUPERCARD OF HONOR XI
April 29, 2017
Orlando, FL
FOUR CORNER SURVIVALRaymond Rowe def. Dalton Castle, Kazarian, and Cheeseburger The beginning of this match saw Castle manhandle all three of his opponents. Each participant made a good showing but it was Rowe putting away Kazarian with Death Rowe.
Roppongi Vice def. Jay & Mark Briscoe by pin
The Briscoes brought the fight to Beretta & Rocky Romero but RPG Vice made frequent defensive tags to stay out of trouble. The teamwork of RPG outclassed the Briscoes on this night as they isolated Mark and finished him with Strong Zero.
Veda Scott came out unannounced and joined Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino on commentary. They welcomed her and let her know that they were happy she had worked things out with Ring of Honor. Kevin then asked about the purpose for her sitting down with them. She said there was no purpose other than to help them out on commentary and that they
“... should probably get used to it.” Kevin and Steve stumbled a bit following that comment and things were awkward for a moment.
ROH WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIPLio Rush(c) def. Hanson by pin
The size difference in this match was profound. Hanson’s opening offense was to literally toss Rush a few feet overhead and onto the top turnbuckle with Snake Eyes. The crowd started a ‘Holy S**t’ chant as Lio sold the spot. Rush bounced back spectacularly, dazzling his opponent with a flurry of offense before sticking the landing on Dragon’s Call. Lio was in for a letdown though, as Hanson threw him off at one during the ensuing pin attempt. There was some back and forth as Hanson shrugged off Rush’s offense but could not land a blow due to Lio’s quickness. Rush spiked Hanson to the canvas with a tornado DDT to retain his title. On commentary, Veda said she could see big things in the future for Rush.
Christopher Daniels def. Jay Lethal by pin
Despite the bad blood between Daniels and Affluence, this match with Lethal was relatively civil. “The Fallen Angel” outmaneuvered Lethal in the early stages of the match. Jay turned things around for a bit but Daniels brought this match to a sudden close with Angel’s Wings.
TAG WARS FINALTwo Fisted (Adam Page, Silas Young & Joey Daddiego) def. Truthless (Chris Sabin & The Young Bucks) by pin
This match would not only determine the winners of Tag Wars but would crown the first ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions. While the team of Truthless was considered a frontrunner to make it to the finals, Two Fisted was on no one’s list of potential winners. Former House of Truth teammates, Adam Page and Chris Sabin, started this match. Page viciously attacked Sabin, softening him up for the tag to Silas Young. A Pee Jee Waja Plunge and a handful of tights by Silas and the match was over. The shocking upset capped off Two Fisted’s unbelievable run in the Tag Wars tournament, having won in similar shady fashion in prior rounds. Sabin and Matt and Nick Jackson protested the decision to no avail as the unlikely champions were handed the brand new title belts.
Veda Scott said she was proud of the new champions and wished them a long title reign, then excused herself to see to other matters.
Kenny Omega def. ACH by pin
There was a bit of buzz in the IWC about this contest and its potential to be match of the night. An argument could be made for just that. Omega sold like crazy for ACH’s high impact repertoire. When it came time for “The Cleaner” to take over, the crazy action was turned up to another level. ACH kicked out of a V-Trigger before Kenny took the action out to the floor, hitting a tope con hilo then an insane running V-Trigger from the apron that sent both men over the barricade and into the crown. Omega got another near fall with a Kotaro Krusher. Omega then went for his finisher, One Winged Angel. When ACH kicked out, Kenny almost attacked the referee. One Winged Angel again and it was over.
Donovan Dijak def. Damien Martinez by pin
The crowd was on the edge of its seat, anticipating this battle between Diajk and the man who put his manager, Truth Martini, in the hospital. Dijak was seething but in control for the introductions while Martinez taunted him with an evil smile. At the bell, the two slowly stepped toward each other and met at center ring. Dijak had some words for Martinez, who made the first move by trying to shove Diajk backwards. The amped up Dijak used Damien’s momentum against him and spun him around and into the corner, then pinned him there, choking him with his foot. The ref had a difficult time getting Dijak to break it up. Vertical suplex by Dijak led to Feast Your Eyes. However, it was not over as Martinez kicked out almost before the ref could count one. Dijak with Feast Your Eyes again. Three count and it was over.
At first the crowd voiced their dissatisfaction with the one sided contest but Dijak’s pumped up celebration got some of them cheering. As Dijak posed for the hard camera, a man in a hoodie came out of the crowd and got into the ring. Once he had an opening, the unidentified man clipped Dijak’s knee from behind, toppling him like a tree. Martinez had recovered and the two men put the boots to Donovan. With their victim prone, the pair paused and the second man pulled back his hoodie revealing himself to be BJ Whitmer. Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino were taken aback and in a state of confusion. BJ kicked Dijak in the ribs a few more times then looked Martinez in the eyes and nodded. Jumping down to the floor, Whitmer approached the timekeeper’s table, causing ROH personnel to scatter. He arranged the table then helped Martinez get Dijak out onto the apron, then gave the signal with a throat slash gesture. Martinez hefted Diajk up by the throat and gave him a South of Heaven chokeslam through the table. Whitmer stood over the decimated Dijak for a moment gloating, then he and Martinez took their leave. Medical staff came out to see to Dijak and he was taken out on a stretcher.
ROH WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPAdam Cole & Matt Taven def. reDRagon(c) by pin
Once the dust had settled from the previous match, the participants for the main event came out to compete for the tag team championship. The egos involved naturally led to a lot of gabbing before and during the introductions, particularly barbs between Taven and Bobby Fish. Taven and Kyle O’Reilly started this one out. As they circled, Fish encouraged his partner in the form of a dig at ROH World Champion Cole.
“Hey, Kyle! We can’t let these guys win. I don’t think Adam has the muscle mass to carry two belts at the same time. We don’t want to be responsible for him hurting himself.” O’Reilly lit up Taven with a big kick in the corner and landing with Axe and Smash. Matt quickly retreated to his corner and tagged in Cole. The World Champion tried hitting Kyle with an enzuigiri but missed and started taking shots from his one-time partner. Adam avoided getting put into a triangle choke and rocked O’Reilly with a superkick. Cole applied a figure four leglock but Kyle was able to stretch and make the tag to Fish. Cole fired back but the teamwork of reDRagon stifled his advantage until he hit Fish with a brainbuster onto his knee for a two count. Taven tagged back in and he and Fish had some give and take. Matt got the upper hand and a near fall with the Climax. Fish was in trouble. Cole tagged in and hit the Panama Sunrise but O’Reilly came in for the save. Taven tied up O’Reilly as Cole went for the Panama Sunrise again and scored the pinfall. Cole and Taven were jubilant as they claimed the tag team titles, affirming that Affluence were aptly named.
