Since I am playing Future Legends as a current years fed, I am faced with a delimma. Do you follow real life events or do you diverge. For example, a wrestler meets a tragic end in real life, do you keep using him and if you do and eventually write him out do you change the nature to fit your story? I figure this is a what if game, but I am going to introduce a story line where I might have to write out some folks and don't want to offend anyone.

I try to keep my Future Legends fed fairly close to real life. If we lose someone (eg. Paul Bearer-who I would have loved using in CWFH) then I will reflect that as simply as possible. I will then use them in my LWF fed (Larry Sweeney for instance). In other instances, such as retirements, I will keep the wrestler around. If they are able to wrestle, I book 'em. (Sorry Jerry Lynn, we need you tonight). I will pull an occasional old timer in from the LWF too, if they still show up on reunion shows etc. (Duggan, Greg Valentine)

After a lot of thought, I'm planning on keeping "Sweet & Sour" Larry Sweeney around in my CHIKARA promotion despite his tragic suicide two years ago. My fed is currently set in 2002 and features Johnny Saint. I plan on phasing him out in the near future but having him pop up from time to time. I'll do the same down the line with the CHIKARA guys who eventually moved onto bigger things.

I mix real life into my game world. For example, Claudio and Brodie Lee left Chikara and went to WWE. Nigel, Aries went on to bigger promotions as well. I try to mix in "what if" so I have Danielson not going back to WWE after he was terminated and now starring in my ROH along with a boot of CM Punk based on the idea that he was going to leave the WWE at one point. Oh, Larry Sweeney is a tragic story, but he is still active in my Chikara. I do it because I like his gimmick and its another "what if".
LOW stars also enter the mix on occassion, such as Jerry Lynn, Al Snow, D Lo Brown, Super Crazy--basically guys who are still currently wrestling to some degree.

I am trying very hard to follow the timeline of individual characters with regard to how long they wrestle, not necessarily where.
Obviously, there was a huge paradigm shift in the "Indy Trilogy" universe I am running, with guys leaving the WWE, TNA, ROH, CZW, and so on in droves. Thus, I have no "loyalty" to real life with regard to who wrestles in my "minor leagues."
On the other hand, I am trying to be vey scrupulous with regard to each wrestler's individual timeline. If he retires in real life, he will retire from my universe at or around the same time. I may make individual exceptions for a short period of time (as I am doing with Dustin Lee, but that is going somewhere specific). So, while I am currently about to close out January in my set of feds, when I get to March, both Jerry Lynn and Charlie Haas will hang up their tights.
Wrestlers who pass away I do not use, so no Larry Sweeney (which is a pity). Injuries, I would handle based on where they happened. In the ring? I disregard it, as the injured wrestler was not in the place/time where the injury occurred in my world. Car accident? That, I would likely work into my story.

I play it all in the alternate universe in my head. Why should I bind myself to the real world? It is my federations, so it is going to run the way I want it to run.

one of the main issues with the Indy Feds is that a card can be quickly left behind and even updating can be a hazard. Green Ant wasn't looking like he was necessarily going to be a top guy for Chikara this year when his WrestleCon card was conceived, but Chikara had other plans. Johnny Gargano should definitely be far better than his Chikara card reflects. Even the sets are often quickly out of date, with about half of the Chikara original set already gone and about a 1/4 of ROH as well.

I love the 4-pack/6-pack add-ons (though they really need a data sheet, even a pdf like the full set releases), but I would also love an end-of-year "Best of the Indies" blockbuster that updates the main angles for the year for those of us who can't follow the feds via DVD, with 8 or 12 wrestlers, consisting of: * alternate versions (e.g., Johnny Gargano in DG-USA) for those who wish to use them * updates for those who have had a major identity or talent change (e.g., Ophidian) * new wrestlers, not tied to any fed, like we've been seeing with the last two "event" packs * wrestlers exclusive to feds like FIP or PWG, where we have many of the talents on their roster already, but are missing a couple key regulars (maybe Super Dragon?) Just to clarify--I don't mean to sound critical of the product, and I wouldn't want to lose the regular updates in favor of one end-of-the-year, cross-promotional set. But it would be a beautiful enhancement.
