FG Indy Wrestling Guide

The purpose of this guide is to provide readers with practical information on the flood of Indy wrestling content that has become a growing part of the Filsinger Games product library. The goal is to help those who may have some form of interest in FG and its game play system, but may not be familiar with the subject matter involved. This project's initial focus will be to cover all the different 'packs' that have hit the market. Topics will include general bios for each wrestler, links to online media sourced by the talent, videos, card analysis and any additional misc. information that may prove helpful to other players/potential buyers. In time, a separate section will cover the expanding issue of duplicate cards, where a library of alternate versions of talent have been released across various promotional sets and their supplements.

As each pack is reviewed, an abbreviated write up will be slotted into the parent thread referenced above. Eventually every Indy wrestler will be covered.

Born July 22, 1981, Kenny Layne (aka King) came from a background in college football, playing strong safety for a number of colleges. In 2002 he tried out for and successfully made the cast of the second season of MTV's WWF Tough Enough. While Kenny didn't win, he impressed viewers and critics alike as he reached the finals. He would go on to further supplement his training, carving a niche on the Indy circuit. On the higher end, Kenny has had runs in Ring of Honor, and two separate stints in TNA (one of which is currently ongoing).

Kevin Noiseux aka Kevin Steen was born in Quebec on May 7, 1984. Having trained under Canadian superstars Jacques Rougeau Jr. and Pierre Ouellete, Kevin broke into the business in May of 2000, performing his first match at the tender age of 16. For the past 13 years he has worked throughout the Indy circuit, including tours overseas and an ongoing stint as a headliner in Ring of Honor. Many critics consider Steen to be among the best all around talents not yet signed to a major promotion. Kevin himself has cited issues of size and cosmetics as a possible Achilles' heel.

Everett Lawrence Titus aka Rhett Titus, was born September 15, 1987. He began training at the ROH Wrestling Academy at age 16, learning under the guidance of Austin Aires and Bryan Danielson (aka Daniel Bryan). Titus debuted in 2006, and since that time he's been a fixture on the east coast Indy scene, working for ROH, FIP and various other promotions.

Defensively, Titus comes equipped with four counters (two of which are - 2) but is tripped up by the dreaded L2D down - 3 and a poor man's pin rating. Defensive tags appear on every level, but weak agility and power ratings may play havoc in ch and chart situations.

Afa Anoaʻi, Jr was born October 6, 1984. Nicknamed the Samoan Storm, he is part of a famous pro wrestling family tree that includes his father (Wild Samoan Afa), uncle (Wild Samoan Sika), brothers (Samu and LA Smooth), and a boatload of cousins (The Rock, Roman Reigns, The Usos, Rikishi, Rosey, and the late Umaga and Yokozuna). *For those interested, a much more in depth piece on the history of the Anoa'i Family can be found here.*. He began training at his father's facility and wrestling for his Dad's WXW promotion at the astounding age of 13. At the high end of his young career, Afa Jr. successfully went through the WWE developmental system, and in late '07 was called up for a stint on Raw under the name Manu. His run lasted into early '09, with attitude issues rumored to be the catalyst behind his release. With his full potential yet to be realized, Afa Jr. remains an active presence on today's Indy scene.

Ken Doane

Kenneth George Doane was born March 16, 1986. A student of the late Killer Kowalski, Ken debuted in the business in 2001 at the tender age of 15! An impressive young talent, by 2003 Doane was working with-in the WWE Developmental program (through OVW). In January of 2006 he was called up to the main roster as male cheerleader Kenny of the Spirit Squad. In time that gimmick ran its course, and he was repackaged under the name Kenny Dykstra. Despite showing potential, his push stalled and he was eventually released from WWE in November of 2008. Internet controversy has occasionally surrounded his name, with his pointed personal and professional criticisms of John Cena gaining fanfare. Kenny has publicly blamed Cena for ruining his engagement to WWE Diva Mickey James, sabotaging his run, being behind his release, and using his political strength backstage to blackball him from the company. Those controversies aside, Ken now spends his time attending college and working occasional gigs on the Indy circuit. In 2010 he appeared on a reality TV show (Seducing Cindy) and has recently written an anti-bullying book for children called “Billy’s Bully”. At the time of this post, the book was set for a June release.

Robert Maillet was born in New Brunswick, Canada on October 26, 1969. A giant of a man, he began his training in 1989 under the tutelage of Stephen Petitpas, which led to work on the local Canadian Indy circuit and tours overseas. Robert was eventually introduced to fellow Canadian Bret Hart through a friend, which would lead to a late 1997 stint in WWE as Kurrgan. The gig was initially a heel persona (as part of the Truth Commission) but later transformed into a comedy baby face role (linked with The Oddities). While Kurrgan was released from WWE in 1999, he continued to wrestle and tour overseas, eventually segueing his fame into an impressive acting career. Robert's noted big screen appearances include 300, Sherlock Holmes and Immortals.

Kurrgan: The Card



Kurrgan clocks in at 16 (19) on the Rahl Ratings scale. His offensive attack is roller-coaster like. A steel curtain defense carries five total counters, including the respected L2D dazed - 1. A poor man's pin rating, passable tag skills and wild card attributes round things out. Among the content I've reviewed thus far, Kurrgan stands out as a really fun card that offers players a lot of possibilities. Regardless of what FG Brand a reader may be playing, this 7 footer from South Africa offers a clear break from the generic. In fact, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this one if it was re-released in color.

Today he works as a professional cartoonist and outreach youth minister.

Brian Daniel Heffron was born May 18, 1973. Upon graduating from high school, Heffron became a student of Al Snow's Body Slammer's training school, eventually working his way into the local Ohio area Indy scene in '94. Brian's big break came a year later, when he joined ECW and adopted the Blue Meanie persona that would become his hallmark. On a mainstream level, Heffron would work two stints in WWE, with the first run spanning from late '98 into '00. His second tenure in the Summer of '05 was a bit controversial, as he was intended to be brought back solely for a one shot event, WWE's ECW One Night Stand. An unplanned in ring confrontation with WWE Superstar John 'Bradshaw' Layfield resulted in Brian being busted open hardway, with facial damage that required stitches. After the event, Heffron publicly threatened to take legal action against both Bradshaw and the company for negligence. A few weeks later, the controversy was squashed upon Heffron's rehiring. While still an occasional presence on the Indy scene, Brian has also found success in the world of acting, appearing in such films as The Wrestler, Swamp Zombies, Fist of the Vampire and Curse of the Wolf.
