No guarantee this will happen, but it may become a side project later this summer...
January 1977.
Jimmy Carter succeeds Gerald Ford as the President of the United States. The Sex Pistols are unceremoniously dumped by EMI. The “Blizzard of ’77” batters Buffalo, NY and the surrounding area. A small company named Apple Computer is incorporated. But most importantly, the World Wide Wrestling Federation is a frenzy of activity.
World Champion Bruno Sammartino has just survived a dangerous challenge from wildman Bruiser Brody. Powerful Russian Nikolai Volkoff and sadistic Tor Kamata are waiting in the wings.
In the tag-team ranks, recently crowned champs Chief Jay Strongbow & Billy White Wolf are busy defending the gold against the previous title holders, the hulking Masked Executioners. In addition to the former champions, several mat villains are combining their talents to go after the popular Native American duo.
Fan favorites such as Ivan Putski, Sammartino protégé Larry Zbyszko, Tony Garea and Dominic DeNucci are all ready for action. Young Bob Backlund, a recent roster addition, has proven to be deceptively powerful and has yet to be beaten. Veterans Gorilla Monsoon and former tag champ Haystacks Calhoun are both working a limited schedule and sometimes act as guest referees when the action gets heated. Portuguese champion Carlos Rocha is also appearing on selected shows.
Scheming managers Lou Albano, Fred Blassie and the Grand Wizard of Wrestling have each amassed formidable stables. Former World Champion Stan Stasiak heads a list of talented rulebreakers awaiting a chance at Sammartino should Volkoff and Kamata fall. Recently arrived powerhouse Ken Patera, a former Olympic weightlifter, is dispatching opponents with his crippling full nelson. German claw-master Baron Von Raschke is also new to the area and climbing the ranks quickly.
It is one of the greatest accumulations of wrestling talent the world has ever seen. And another iconic "Superstar" is only a couple months away from making his dramatic return.
