I personally find Strat to be great for baseball, but not as good for Basketball. I like Statis Pro (sadly, now out of business), or the later fan-made upgrade, Midcourt Basketball, better.
If you head over to Tabletop-sports.com, you'll find some free downloads to check out.
APBA also has a really cool Basketball game, but it's more of a 2 player game, with play calling and everything. It takes forever, but it's great for head to head. (less good for playing a season).

thanks for the link man...appreciate that.... ....i think apba discontinued their hoops game years ago and don't even sell it...it was just too unbearably hard for most and the length factor to play a game was ridiculously long...lol..i dunno maybe you had a different experience with it...but when i had it....it was like a math test that took over 4 hours....lol..the reason i asked about stratomatic is because from what i've read the realism factor is still their but not nearly as long as apba...but i'm still wondering if it's worth the 40 bucks..... i i have heard that it is more simple to play...i've heard some REALLY good things about statis and wanted to order it but the player cards would be outdated...that sucks that they don't make it anymore...i heard that was the best of the three..

Strat-O-Matic baseball is the SECOND greatest game ever! Didn't really care for the football or hockey versions, however. Perhaps they work better as 2-player games? Anyway, never tried the basketball, but I imagine it might be similar to the hockey?
