This will be the next evolution of my Pro Wrestling Filsinger Fed. Ontario Wrestling Network Live will be based on some of the local promotions in Ontario. I am going to start with one or two of the promotions and expand as time permits. First up… one of the longest running promotions in the province, Pure Wrestling Association.
OWNLive 01 – Pure Wrestling Association - Canada Day Carnage V – Riverside Park, Cambridge, Ontario, July 1, 2014
Peter Avalon v. Tim Donst (LE)
An interesting contest to get things underway that featured plenty of counters early on. Avalon took control after a brawl on the floor went his way. Donst was able to survive MARTI-KNEES and made a comeback when Avalon missed a moonsault (ch). Donst rebounded Avalon off the ropes into a wicked clothesline and then locked in the HYDRO LOCK for the win. **
QT Marshall & Archibald Peck w/Veronica v. Sugar Dunkerton & Joker
Is he R.D. Evens or is he Archibald Peck? Perhaps he is a little of both but the fans have no love for him either way. Both teams take a few minutes to get things going and the fans enjoy some comedy from Peck and Dunkerton. The match soon becomes more serious as Joker & Dunkerton cut off Marshall from his partner and work him over in and out of the ring. They crush Marshall with a DRIVER & DUNKER. Joker hooks the leg as Dunkerton prevents the save and Veronica cannot cause a distraction. Marshall kicks out of the cover at 2 ½ and the fans think it should have been three. Joker maintains the advantage however and then puts Marshall away with a moonsault (ch). **
Matt Taven v. Nick Madrid
Fans expected some high impact fast paced action from these two and that is exactly what they received. Taven was able to get the advantage early on but could not put Madrid away after an ARM TRAP HEADLOCK DRIVER. Madrid came back and really impressed with his attack which included a pair of northern lights suplexes and an implant DDT. Taven weathered the storm and countered an Adios Knee. Taven uses a deathjump smash to set up a second ARM TRAP HEADLOCK DRIVER for the three count. * ½
Canadian Ninjas (Nicole Matthews & Portia Perez) v. Pink Ladies (Jessie McKay & Madison Eagles)
The Ninja’s are greeted with a huge pop as they come to the ring. However, Ninja’s find themselves in some trouble when Matthews is cut off from her corner. McKay strikes with a SCHOOL GIRL CRUSH for a near fall before Eagles tags in and ends it with HELL BOUND (cat’s eyes). The Ladies are not done as Eagles carries on the attack after the bell starting a wild brawl between all four ladies. Security is called out to break things up. *
The After Party (Rhett Titus & Johnny Goodtime) v. Team FIST 2.0 Johnny Gargano & Icarus
Titus and Goodtime have the fans clapping early and they manage to focus their attack on Icarus. Goodtime rocks the fans with a pair of Falcon Arrows. This leads to a MUFF DRIVER by Titus for a near fall. Gargano is able to tag into the action and he turns things around against Goodtime. Gargano uses a Lawn Dart to set up a HURTS DONUT for a near fall. Gargano crushes Goodtime with a second HURTS DONUT which brings in Titus for the save. Titus cleans house against both his opponents and the referee makes the disqualification call as Titus refuses to get out of the ring. The fans are not pleased but FIST has a big win. **
Elite Women’s Title Match – Courtney Rush (ch) v. Mia Yim
This one was closely contested from the opening bell onwards. Yim gets the early advantage but Rush catches her on the top of the corner and tosses Yim to the mat. The pace of the bout picks up with Rush scoring with a leg lariat and a monkey flip. Rush seems to be in control when Yim catches her with Kick Me Goodnight out of nowhere. Kim then follows with a SPINNING SEOUL KICK to her stunned opponent and gets the three count. We have a new champion! **
Pure Wrestling Tag Team Title Match – The Tribe (Navajo Warrior & Hawaiian Lion) (ch) v. Los Banditos (Tito Escondido & Rico Dynamite)
These teams know each other well from the battles on the West Coast and now bring their rivalry to Ontario. The action is very evenly paced early on until Escondido manages to catch Warrior mounting the corner and tosses him to the mat. Los Banditos cut off Warrior from his corner. Twice Dynamite & Escondido execute BANDITO BADLANDS but Warrior kicks out each time. Lion gets the hot tag and enters to solid pop from the fans. Lion immediately traps Dynamite in an ANKLE LOCK for a near submission. Escondido then finds himself in some hot water cut off from his corner for a considerable amount of time. At one point, Lion turns Escondido inside out with a Lariat. The Tribe cannot put their opponent away however and Escondido gets the upper hand against Warrior during a brawl on the floor. Dynamite tags in but Warrior is also able to make his own tag. Lion plants Dynamite with a cobra clutch suplex (ch) and gets the three count. The match featured classic tag team action from start to finish. ****
Pure Wrestling Champion Adam Pearce, Rhino & Pure Violence Champion Brodie Lee v. Ontario Champion Michael Elgin, Shawn Ricker & Greg Excellent
This one was amazing from start to finish. By the end all the competitors had hit their finishers at least once each and the fans were left exhausted from the action both in the and out of the ring. The contest was very close until Rhino was cut off from his teammates. Excellent hit him with a Rick Roll and back to back TIGER DRIVERS but could not get the pin. Ricker then followed with a GRAVY TRAIN and again Rhino kicked out of the cover at 2 ½ earning a this is awesome chant from ringside. However, the action had really only just begun. Both sides were able to make tags as the momentum goes back and forth. Lee gets the BIG BOOT on Excellent for a two count. We get Ricker v. Pearce for a prolonged stretch with Pearce hitting back to back JUMPING PILEDRIVERS without getting the three count. Later, Ricker hits Pearce with a GRAVY TRAIN for two. Elgin punishes Peace with a SPINNING SIT-OUT POWERBOMB but only gets a two count. Excellent brawls with Lee and the action goes to the floor. Lee gets the upper hand and tags in a recovered Rhino who cracks Excellent nearly in half with a GORE! for the three count. *****
