Well, I’m about to start my third “era” with our little card and dice game…
Era 1: 1990-1998 (2087-2096)
Era 2: 2004-2007 (2074-2079)
Era 3 (first attempt): 2011 (3 cards of WGX fed, circa 2075)
Well, life kept happening and took me away from playing the game, although I do read and post on the board all the time. A couple weeks back, my son started kindergarten and this week, my daughter started preschool, so lo and behold, I now have a lot more free time on my hands!
Since then, I’ve been prepping to re-start my WGX fed, but I just can’t take the plunge! I keep finding more “prep” work to do (examine stats, run practice sims on COTG Online, organize all my cards and charts, etc.). I told my wife a couple nights ago, “Honey, once I roll those dice again, I’m going down a road that I’m not coming back from”, LOL.
I think I’m scared that I will fully relapse into my COTG addiction. The pull of the game, writing my recaps, planning my storylines, it’s just too damn strong. I know you guys feel my pain.
My question is, have any of you purposely avoided playing because you know that the only way you can play is by fully immersing yourself in it? Does anyone else share my “all or nothing” mentality?
Work wore me out today and I have more work tomorrow, but I think Sunday night will be the night I finally fall off the wagon!

Yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat but for different reasons. I really want to get back into it, but I just don't have a lot of time. I make plans to play but then I sit down at the end of the day and it's like I can't make myself get started because I'm afraid I won't be able to get any momentum going and will end up not sticking with it.

Time and the sheer amount of cards coming out at this point does make it difficult. I have lots of ideas I'd love to run but things and other games have a tendency to get in the way.

I'm coming at this from an LOW perspective, but I get it. Many are the nights where I want to roll some dice and move my fed along, but then it's late and I'm tired, and I don't want to just give it a half-effort, so I don't ... and the days slip by. "Sigh."

I'm a board game journalist, so I struggle to find time amongst all the other games I have to play for work, alongside all the games I want to play for fun, and stuff outside gaming.
It's a good problem to have though.

I thought of this topic last night when I sat down at about 8 PM to play for an hour or two. I played out half the card, but was so uninspired by the write-up that I just stopped and put it aside. Then, I went and did some other things while giving some thought to how I could improve it. From there, I got some ideas that really made me want to go back and rewrite it. Looking forward to doing that tonight.
Great thing about this game is that it's not "live" and if we aren't happy with the finished product, we can just go back and edit or completely rewrite until it looks just like we want it to. I may take a week to get a single card done, but if I'm happy with the results and enjoyed myself, it's all good.

I had stopped playing for quite a while. But being back into it now I find as much free time I can to play. I can normally find about 1-2 hours a day if I play my cards right. The game is extremely addictive but something that my son and step son both started to play.
