Once again, the general public is allowed to vote on this year's class. My votes went to:
Joan Jett-absolutely criminal that she's not already in w/ the Runaways
Lou Reed-love him or hate him, he's a legend
NWA-the first rap group to make my then-18 year old jaw hit the ground! The seminal "gangsta rappers" and arguably the most talent ever assembled in one act
The Marvelettes-all of the girl groups of the 60s are both criminally underrated and HOF worthy in my opinion
Stevie Ray Vaughan-not a blues guy whatsoever, BUT, I've always been a fan.
The Smiths-easiest choice I made, and the one I'm most excited about, though the failure of the Replacements being elected last year concerns me. Another band that most people love or hate. Worthy of inclusion for Johnny Marr's guitar work alone and one of, if not THE, most important "alternative" acts ever.
Those I did NOT vote for include Kraftwerk, Chic, Nine Inch Nails (really?) and Green Day (you have to be kidding, right?)

For my money, the two most glaring omissions are Meatloaf and Bob Babbitt as a side-man.

Weird Al will never get nominated, but should.

Weird Al will never get nominated, but should. Weird Al would get my vote before Green Day

Weird Al should be in. For longevity reasons alone.

How is Stevie Ray Vaughan not already in? If he doesn't make it then I don't know what to say. Joan Jett is another one I would like to see in. The Runaways should also be in there. The list of bands not in like Deep Purple, Motley Crue, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden is simply head scratching yet Green Day and Nine Inch Nails make the ballot their first time eligible.
The Rock Hall rivals the Baseball Hall for things that don't make much sense like Keith Hernandez, Gil Hodges, and Don Mattingly among other greats not getting in yet a guy like Bill Mazeroski (sp?) is in. Oh well looks like another year of waiting for some well deserving rock acts to get their due.
