Card 01 – This is Smash – Canlan Sportsplex, Mississauga, ON (October 26, 2014)
Osirian Portal (Amasis & Ophidian) v. Throwbacks (Dasher Hatfield & Sugar Dunkerton) The fans seem to be enjoying both teams during the introductions. Dunkerton and Ophidian trade moves and Dunkerton overpowers Ophidian with a clothesline in the corner and the Throwbacks go for the finish with GRANDSLAM DUNK. Ophidian gets the shoulder up at the last second and Hatfield keeps on him with a GRANDSLAM for another two count. The fans are really into this one. A pair of suicide squeezes forces Ophidian to the floor and Hatfield comes out after him. Ophidian gets the upper hand with a series of chops outside. Amasis joins the action officially with an EGYPTIAN CONNIPTION for a near fall on Hatfield but Hatfield is able to roll clear of a flying elbow drop (ch) during the next series of moves. Dunkerton is in but Amasis backdrops him over the ropes to the floor in a nasty looking spot. Dunkerton climbs back into the ring and Amasis strikes with an EGYPTIAN CONNIPTION for great looking near fall. The OSIRIAN SACRAMENT follows. Amasis blocks Hatfield from making the save but Dunkerton is able to get the shoulder up. Ophidian wears down Dunkerton with a Death Grip and nails a deathjump smash. Amasis tags but misses a flying elbow drop (ch) and Throwbacks get the hot tag. Hatfield with a Baseball Slide and Underhand Pitch that forces Amasis to bail to the floor. He regains the ring and the Throwbacks team up for GRANDSLAM DUNK. Hatfield blocks the pin save attempt but Amasis kicks out of the cover. Dunkerton uses a piledriver to set up another GRANDSLAM DUNK but this time Ophidian makes the save. Hatfield has the fans roaring with a run the bases corner smash followed by a Baseball Slide and Suicide Squeeze. He hooks the leg but Amasis kicks out at 2 ¾. Outside, Amasis reverses a whip and Hatfield takes out the timekeepers table. Ophidian gets the much needed tag and immediately traps Hatfield in a DEATH GRIP but cannot get the submission. Ophidian tosses Hatfield to the floor and when he regains the ring applies another Death Grip. Dunkerton is cut off by Amasis but Hatfield makes the ropes. Amasis tags in and the Portal hit with OSIRIAN SACRAMENT for the three count. Insanely hot opener. *****
QT Marshall w/R.D. Evans v. Jay Lethal The fans are solidly behind Lethal as the action gets underway. Very closely contested in the opening exchange of counters and moves. Marshall gets control and nails a Glamour Shot for a 1 ½ count. Lethal slows things down with a pair of figure four leglocks with a solid looking leg lariat in between. Lethal then hits the LETHAL INJECTION to a nice pop but can only get 2 ½. Lethal nails a second LETHAL INJECTION. Evans gets on the apron but Lethal stays focused and hooks the leg. Marshall gets the shoulder up at the last second. The fans thought it was over! Lethal is all over Marshall including a springboard DDT, leg lariat and a pair of Lethal Combinations. Lethal comes off the top rope with a deathjump cross body block but again Marshall kicks out of the pin. Lethal unleashes a running suplex, Hail to the King, leg lariats and a dragon suplex that has the fans on their feet. Lethal then comes off the top with a perfect moonsault (ch) and hooks the leg. 1, 2, ¾. The fans cannot believe the kick out! Another Hail to the King crushes Marshall and Lethal hits his third LETHAL INJECTION to end the match. ***
ACH v. Robert Anthony Handshake gets the action underway. Anthony goes into the ropes early on and rebounds with a nice looking cross body that stuns ACH for a two count. Anthony looks very impressive with a springboard Arabian Press followed by a simple side headlock that leads to a TACO PIZZA for a 2 count. ACH bails after a deathjump smash. Outside, he reverses an Irish whip and Anthony crashes into the ringside table sending the announcer and timekeeper scurrying for safety. Back in the ring, a Dragon Fly sets up a Tiger Mask for a two count. ACH is all over Anthony in the ring with a Tree of Woe clothesline, Tiger Mask and Dragon Fly. Anthony bails and ACH comes to the floor after him. Anthony gains control nails body slams ACH through the timekeeper’s table. The fans are chanting as the bell sounds and Anthony has been disqualified. * ½
Delirious (LOH), DJ Hyde & Adam Cole (CZW) w/Mia Yim v. Shane Hollister, Jigsaw & Tommaso Ciampa There was a short break in the action while a new table was set up for the officials at ringside. Hollister and Cole start the action off and Hollister gets the immediately upper hand. Hollister connects with a springboard DDT and a deathjump smash. Ciampa keeps the offensive going and Cole bails. Cole runs Ciampa’s head into the ringside table and is able to tag in Hyde. Hyde hits a tombstone piledriver (ch) but Ciampa is able to get the tag to Jigsaw who attacks Hyde with a jumping enzuigiri that spills his opponent to the floor. Outside, Hyde grabs a chair but a kick to the stomach allows Jigsaw to gain control of the weapon and he clocks Hyde with it. The bell sounds and Jigsaw has been disqualified. The fans are not pleased with the call but Cole, Hyde and Delirious have a win. All six men brawl to the back after the bell so the fans are happy despite the inconclusive finish. *
C & C Wrestle Factory (Caprice Coleman & Cedrick Alexander) v. The Tribe (Navajo Warrior & Hawaiian Lion Lion overpowers Alexander early on including a clothesline in the corner that looks really stiff. The Tribe work over Alexander for a few minutes with Lion drawing heat from the fans when he bites Alexander. Coleman gets the tag into the action but is double teamed with a Hang Five before Warrior takes him down with a Flying Bear. Coleman kicks out after a MOMUMENT VALLEY DRIVER. The Tribe combine for a Broken Arrow and then nails a second MOMUMENT VALLEY DRIVER. Lion blocks Alexander but Coleman kicks out of the cover. Back to back Volcano Bombs send Coleman to the floor. Back in the ring, Coleman is able to counter a Cobra Clutch Suplex (ch) and gets the tag. C & C combine for a double team domination and Alexander covers Lion for a one count. Alexander hits a deathjump smash followed by a Sky Fall Frog Splash for a near fall. Lion counters an enzuigiri and Warrior tags in. Warrior with a body slam and the match goes to the floor. Alexander and Warrior mix it up at ringside where Alexander gets the upper hand. The Tribe get a defensive tag and back to back Volcano Bombs from Lion leads to a Hang Five. A second Hang Five rocks Coleman but he is able to counter out of Cobra Clutch suplex (ch) and tag in Alexander. A double team domination forces Lion to the floor and Alexander dives onto his opponent at ringside earning a huge reaction from ringside. Lion barely makes it back inside before the 10 count but manages to avoid a high kick and tags out. It is back and forth between Warrior and Alexander including an impressive looking full nelson facebuster from Alexander. Coleman tags in and really takes the fight to Warrior including a clothesline in the corner. Warrior gets whipped in to the ropes and on the rebound he stuns Coleman with an inside cradle. 1, 2, kick out. Lion takes the match to the floor when he tags in but Coleman gets the best of the brawl running Lion headfirst into the ringside table. Back in the ring, Coleman & Alexander hit C & C CONNECTION COMBO (3). Coleman blocks Warrior from making the save and Alexander hooks the leg for the three count. *** ½
Masada v. Sami Callihan These two spent a long time in the combat zone together so there was no feeling out process at the outset of this one. Callihan nailed a pair of exploder suplexes early on that rocked the fans. A Forearm to Remember shook the ring and gave Callihan a near fall. Callihan then applied a STRETCH MUFFLER but Masada made the ropes. Callihan took the battle to the floor and cracked Masada across the back with a chair shot. The referee lets the action continue. Callihan takes Masada back to the floor and nails him again with a chair. The referee calls for the disqualification this time. Callihan then adds insult to injury when he locks in a STRETCH MUFFLER after the bell and then leaves Masada in a heap in the middle of the ring. A strong message sent by Callihan in this one but what will be Masada’s response? dud
Bryan Danielson (CHIK) v. Claudio Castagnoli (CHIK) These two have battled all over the independent circuit in the past and know each other well. The story early was the American Dragon attempting to find a way to counter Castagnoli’s power. Danielson uses his quickness to avoid a running clothesline and connects with a Yakuza Kick. Danielson goes for the kill with a CATTLE MUTILATION but it is too early in the match. Castagnoli catches Danielson in an attempted moonsault (ch) and slams him to the mat. It is a momentum changer. A cobra clutch suplex (ch) sends Danielson to the mat for a 1 ½ count. Danielson struggles to his feet and Castagnoli connects with a bicycle kick that nearly knocks out the American Dragon. The three count is academic. *
Adam Pearce v. Willie Mack Mack is out to a great reaction as he comes to the ring. Mack and Pearce have spent years in the same rings up and down the American west coast so the expectations for this main event bout were high. The action was closely contested early on. Pearce presses the advantage and a swinging neckbreaker sends the bout to the floor where both men brawl into the fans. Back inside, Mack gets control with a running clothesline and a T-Bone suplex. A Sit out spinebuster sets up a CHOCOLATE THUNDER BOMB for a 1 count only. Mack comes off the top with a deathjump smash and then hits the MDX. Pearce battles back and connects with back to back spinebusters but Mack avoids a kick to the face (ch) and hits a cobra clutch suplex (ch). A sit out spinebuster sends Pearce to the floor. Mack follows with a CHOCOLATE THUNDER BOMB. 1, 2, ¾ count. The fans thought it was over! Mack keeps coming with a Samoan Drop and a deathjump smash. Pearce gets tosses outside and this time Mack allows him to crawl back into the ring. Mack hits back to back deathjump smashes followed by a third CHOCOLATE THUNDER BOMB. Pearce kicks out at 1 ½ and the fans loose it. A Samoan Drop is followed by MDX. Mack hooks the leg. 1, 2, kick out again! Another MDX and the fans are roaring. Mack goes for a backdrop but Pearce counters with a piledriver! Both men are down. Pearce recovers and applies a figure four leglock. Mack is able to power out and the action continues. Outside, both men trade blows. Pearce leads the match back to the ring and plants Mack with a JUMPING PILEDRIVER for a near fall. Pearce then hits a second JUMPING PILEDRIVER and Mack power out of the cover to a huge reaction. Back to back last ride lariats send Mack to the floor. Pearce comes out and rams a chair into Mack’s midsection drawing huge heat. It is all Pearce with a series of Hangman Neckbreakers and a spinebuster. Pearce goes back to the figure four leglock and this time Mach drags himself to the ropes to keep the match going. Pearce attacks from the top with deathjumps and goes after the neck with an assortment of neckbreakers. The action goes back to the floor and Mack gets the upper hand and nails Pearce with a powerbomb through the timekeeper’s table! The fans are chanting. Back in side Mack hits the MDX followed by a Samoan Drop but Pearce is able to come back with a spinebuster. Both men are exhausted and start to miss moves. Pearce with a Last Ride Lariat followed by a third JUMPING PILEDRIVER. 1 – kick out and fans explode (boxcars!). Claudio Castagnoli v. Shane Hollister Hollister’s size disadvantage is obvious as the bell sounds to get this one underway. Hollister attempts a wrist lock but ends up in a UFO that gets a solid reaction from the fans. Hollister uses his speed to get back into things and manages to backdrop Castagnoli to the floor in another crowd pleasing spot. Castagnoli drags Hollister to the floor however and runs him into the ring post shoulder first drawing great heat. A bicycle kick topples Hollister to the floor again but he is able to recover and climb back into the ring only to get tossed to the floor again. This time Hollister trips up Castagnoli at ringside and runs the Swiss powerhouse into the ring post shoulder first. Hollister connects with a deathjump smash and then applies an Iowa Leglock that forces Castagnoli to grab the ropes. The fans are really into the match at this point. Hollister goes to the top and attempts a top rope knee drop but Castagnoli counters with Swiss Death! The fans explode at the sequence. Both men brawl on the floor and Castagnoli comes out on top. The action slows with a series of Inverted Chikara Specials from Castagnoli. Castagnoli mounts the top rope but Hollister knocks the ropes and sends Castagnoli crashing to the mat. The fans are hoping for the upset. Top rope knee drop connects followed by an Iowa Leglock. Outside, both men trade blows and Castagnoli gains the advantage. Castagnoli grabs a chair and smashes Hollister across the back. The referee sees the attack and immediately calls for the disqualification. Claudio Castagnoli is out of the tournament in a stunning upset! The fans are not pleased with the call but the match was entertaining from start to finish. **
