Card Y01.01.01 – Stage 1 – Knights of Columbus Hall, Hamilton, ON
Steve Corino v. AR Fox (CZW)
The fans greet Fox warmly and are looking forward to some high flying high impact action. Corino spoils those expectations early on with some solid brawling but soon Fox gets the advantage with a Krunch. Fox hits the 450 SPLASH but Corino is able to kick out at the last second. A flying single knee facebuster downs Corino and Fox rocks the fans with a suicide senton but the King of Old School shows some resilience when he is able to catch Fox on the top of the corner and tosses him to the mat. Corino pulls a chain out of his tights and decks Fox laying him out in the middle of the ring. The referee sees the chain and automatically calls for the disqualification. * ½
Jay Briscoe (LOH) v. Masada
Leave your book of counter holds at home for this one and get ready to abandon your seat when the action spills into your lap! Plenty of brawling and chaos as you would expect from these two. Briscoe cracks Masada with a chair shot at ringside busting him open but the referee lets it go. Back inside, Masada shows incredible toughness when he takes not one but three JAY DRILLERS and still finds a way to lift his shoulder. The fans are on their feet at the third kick out. Masada comes back and connects with a powerbomb (ch) and then the fight goes back to the floor again. This time Briscoe is disqualified when he nails Masada a second time with a chair. Briscoe then drops Masada with a Yakuza kick and leaves him in a heap at ringside.** ½
Brian Cage v. Tursas
The battle of the powerhouses was next. Truth Martini comes out early in the action drawing great heat and appears to be scouting both men. Cage looked impressive early on and even connected with a WEAPON X but could not get the three count. Tursas came back when he caught Cage climbing the corner and tossed him to the mat. Tursas landed a pair of Kreuz Bombs that shook the ring. Cage really struggled to get something going for some time until he was able to catch Tursas on the top himself and tossed the big man to the mat earning a solid pop. Cage could not capitalize on the turn of events however as Tursas ran him shoulder first into the ring post. The referee let the action continue and Tursas picked up the three count with a DRIVING CROSS BODY from the second rope. Martini leaves as Tursas is announced the winner.**
Delirious (chik) w/Dazee Haze v. Adam Pearce
These two have a long history on the independent scene and the fans were hoping for another intense showdown tonight. The action did not disappoint. Delirious used a pair of senton splashes to get the crowd really into the action and then assaulted Pearce with a chair shot at ringside. The referee let the action continue and Pearce was able to make a comeback and nailed back to back JUMPING PILEDRIVERS. Delirious was able to kick out both times and Pearce could not believe it. Delirious was able to catch a frustrated Pearce on the top of the corner and tossed him to the mat to start a huge comeback that included a perfect deathjump cross body block for a near fall. Shadows over Heck nearly ended it before Delirious nailed a BIZZARO DRIVER for the win. Real solid match between these two.***
Roderick Strong w/Truth Martini v. Davey Richards
Richards gets on the mic and tells Strong that he does not need that loser pointing to Martini. Strong responds by telling Richards that there will be only one loser tonight and that maybe he should consider learning from the House of Truth. There was great intensity between these two former tag team partners and the match was very even until Strong was able to backdrop Richards to the floor in a great looking spot. This lead to a brawl at ringside and Richards came out on top. Fired up, Richards nailed back to back kicked to death that lead to a two and half count before Richards applied the ANKLE LOCK for the submission win (cats eyes). Richards celebrates his win but is attacked from behind by Strong. A End of the Heartache takes out Richards and Strong does further damage by applying the STRONG HOLD until officials arrive to break things up. (Richards is injured for two cards) ** ½
AJ Styles v. Chris Hero
The fans were still buzzing after the attack on Richards which made for an electric atmosphere for the main event. The action was incredibly tightly contested early on. We get dueling chants from ringside as the fans support both men. Hero finally is able to get the upper hand but Styles is able to avoid a LOADED ROLLING ELBOW and takes over on offense leading to a STYLES CLASH for only a two count. The action continued to go back and forth but it is Styles is pushing the momentum. A Pele Kick hits and nearly ends it. Styles does further damage with a Spinal Tap. Hero battles back and a Hangman’s Elbow rocks the fans. Styles counters another LOADED ROLLING ELBOW with a Pele Kick and the fans eat it up. Styles then puts together an impressive string of offense and finishes Hero with a second STYLES CLASH. ***
Up next Golden Horseshoe Wrestling will be back in action from the Oshawa Legion as GHW presents “The Next Level.” Already signed will be a rematch from tonight as Jay Briscoe will step back into the ring with Masada and in the main event, the Golden Horseshoe Title tournament gets underway with a semi-final four way elimination match pitting AJ Styles v. Adam Pearce v. Roderick Strong v. Brian Cage! Also signed to appear are Arik Royal, Adam Cole and Matt Taven.
