Well, my Red Sox never made it out of the division series, losing in five games to the eventual World Series winning Cleveland Indians! Manny Ramirez was the WS MVP. He was an absolute beast, clubbing a home run in each of the final four games in the five game series (versus the Arizona Diamondbacks), as well as driving in several other key runs.
My verdict, having played out the entire '99 playoffs in recent weeks, is that the APBA basic game provides a fun, fast-paced, acceptably realistic simulation of MLB. The results charts are a big positive, since they describe the results in some detail. I also like the fact that there are different charts with different results for all the different men-on-base situations. On the downside, individual player base running and fielding variances do not really come into play. All in all, I feel the original poster, who describes himself as not a huge baseball fan, might well find this game more satisfying to play than Strat-O-Matic.
Meanwhile, I find myself growing more and more intrigued by History Maker Baseball. That could well be my next project.
