After graduating from Emerson college in Boston, Libertini began his career on stage, appearing in the 1966 Off-Broadway musical “The Mad Show,” produced by Mad Magazine. By the end of the sixties, he was appearing in such films as “The Night They Raided Minskys,” “Don’t Drink the Water,” and, in 1970, “Catch-22.”
Libertini was a talented, sought-after supporting actor for the next several decades. He had a recurring role on the TV series “Soap,” while also making appearances on several other programs. Most recently he appeared regularly on the series “Supernatural.” While working in television, Libertini also appeared in many movies, including “The In-Laws” (1979), "All of Me" (1984), “Fletch” (1985), "Awakenings" (1990), and “Lethal Weapon 4” (1998).
Among his many talents, Libertini was noted for being able to master many accents, thus he could effectively play many ethnicities. This range assisted his work on stage, film, and TV.
Richard Libertini died on January 7, 2016 after a two year battle with cancer. He is survived by a son, whose mother is actress Melinda Dillon, Libertini’s ex-wife.
