So... The other night, my wife and I took my daughter (age 15) to see an outdoor showing of Labyrinth... This is one of my favorite stories and I've probably seen the movie at least a hundred times...
Then I got to thinking... With all the remakes being churned out by Hollywood --- A lot of them pointless and not needed... I mean Point Break... Really? --- Why not remake Labyrinth? I think it could benefit greatly from today's technology... They could tweak the story to give it a darker edge... And then I thought - Snap! Jonathan Davis from KoRn would be perfect to step into the role of Jareth, the Goblin King... Taking nothing away from the late David Bowie, of course... He was brilliant...
So, here is my question... What movies remakes would you like to see? And how would you like to see it approached?
Just for fun!

I would have to disagree with you on a remake of the Labyrinth. For the add feature some of the new CGI they could do... they would give up so much character development with the puppets. Plus, every time they go to do a remake the makers are rolling the dice on whether it will be a success or not... and if it fails then they are tarnishing the good name on the original.
Now, I would rather see a sequel than an actually remake of a movie myself.

FYI, I know this isn't a Labyrinth topic but Labyrinth is back in theaters on September 11th and 16th for thirtieth anniversary.
Back to the original topic, I'm not a fan of remakes in general but I think Jaws could do well with a CG shark.

The problem I find with today's movies compared to the movies before CGI is the lacking of character development and just carrying for the main characters. If they can capture that with a remake then I would be okay with it.
One of my favorite movies as a kid in the 80s was Flash Gordon... I wouldn't mind seeing a remake to that movie. Maybe a JJ Abrams directing it.

Like you, I don't like it when movies rely solely on CGI to push their product.

About the only movie I can think of that might be a good remake is LOGAN'S RUN. Get someone a little cerebral or subversive to direct like Christopher Nolan or Neill Blomkamp.

I'm good with a remake if the original film came out at least 50 years ago, Nothing sooner.

No particular movie (as long as the original is available in some form) but Hollywood will do it whether we like it or not so hopefully it's at least enjoyable.

Yeah, that shark looks faker & faker everytime I watch the movie and Deep Blue Sea, among others showed us just how frikkin' cool CGI sharks could be. Yet, part of what made Jaws so terrifying was the "lack" of the shark visually, in my opinion. I've mentioned to several others that I feel a Jaws remake would be awesome, yet, at the same time, fake shark & all, it might just be too much of a classic to be tampered with. Good topic by the way!

I would like to see a remake of Elektra- I remember being really disappointed with that movie.
Although I sometimes go see them (for example I plan to see the new Ben Hur and the new King Kong,) I am generally not a big fan of remakes. But there have been a few instances where the remake was a better movie than the original movie it was based upon (for example Ocean's Eleven with George Clooney and Matt Damon IMO was much better than the Rat Pack version of the 1960s and Al Pacino's Scarface IMO was better than the 1930s movie.)
