LA Chargers?

Well, I am going to go on record and say that I think this is a really bad move...

Feel kinda bad for my Southern California brethren in San Diego.

While the Chargers were in LA 50 years ago, they moved to San Diego because they couldn't get support in LA back then...what makes the NFL think they will get support now? They are going to be playing in a soccer stadium until the LA Football stadium is built in two years AND they are going to be PAYING rent to play in the new stadium...WHAT?!?!?

San Diego fans are not likely going to be travelling to LA to watch the team...LA fans didn't come out to Rams games once they realized the team was bad...and the Chargers while better, were not by much. If you don't win in LA (other than the Dodgers and Lakers) the fans want come out; too many other things to do there.

The most popular team NFL in LA is the Raiders...and if they move to Las Vegas, those fans will travel to Vegas to watch them...they already do go to both Oakland and San Diego to see them. And now with the Chargers getting the LA TV Market as the "local AFC home" team over the Raiders (who were considered the local AFC team), more Raiders fans will travel to see them.

Is the NFL playing the "long game" in which they think they will get 2 teams in LA, one in Vegas and then expand back to Oakland and San Diego; thereby saturating So Cal with so much NFL that it will "make more than everyone happy"?

I just can't see how this is a good move...never fear, the NFL is not about the fans, only the owners...so really should not be surprised that this move happened to appease an owner who thinks he is going to make more money in LA.

Yeah, I feel awful for the fans in San Diego and I know how they feel as a Sonics fan.

For me the only downside of bringing the Raiders here to Las Vegas is I really don't want to hurt fans in Oakland in the process (although as DK II said with the Raiders it is more about the brand for their fans when compared to most other teams,) but I am excited about getting the new stadium the Raiders move would bring in regards to the Las Vegas entertainment industry and to my UNLV college football team who would be sharing the stadium with the Raiders. On a side note, stories in the LVRJ the last two days say if the Raiders move gets approved then at least 1 preseason Raiders game could get scheduled for Las Vegas while the new stadium is being built.

History has proven Los Angeles has not supported two NFL teams especially when they are as bad as last year's 4-12 Rams and 5-11 Chargers. Even with only 1 team last year, both attendance and TV ratings for the Rams declined after the initial enthusiasm of the NFL's returned wore off as the Rams continued to lose games. I am not convinced the Chargers can succeed in Los Angeles and I also can't believe the LA Chargers are going with that logo they obviously ripped off from the Dodgers.

LA sports fans are notoriously fair weather. Unless you're winning, they have better things to do. I think the only real sports fans in that town are Raider fans.

This does suck and it's all about business for the owner and it'll be interesting to see if they get less then 30,000 at the Stub Hub Center over the span of time that they are there...

I live in Oceanside, about 35 miles away from San Diego. I also have been a fan since my dad pulled me into the garage and pointed out five football pennants on his wall, I was five. I picked the 1960's L.A. Charger pennant, because it had a cool horse and lightning bolt. I was a huge Fouts era fan and was a honk during the Tomilinson years. I stopped watching football about five years ago because i'm tired of the greed on every level in that company. So I tell you, as a former life long fan I am just fine seeing them go. This was simply a money grab by Spanos. San Diego can barely pay the bills to fix pot holes, to give Spanos tax payer money is future bankruptcy waiting to happen. Nanana-heyhey-good bye.

I empathize with San Diego fans. As a St. Louis sports fan, I've seen two football teams leave town because of greedy owners.

As a life-long Chargers fan (since the glory days of Air Coryell), I don't think the move will make a difference as far as winning games, unfortunately. Rivers is over-the-hill, getting $20 million a year to only win, what is it, 5 games a season? I wish that I could get $20 mill a year to lose like that!

I wish Mariotta had been drafted a couple of years back. At least, there would be hope that he could become a good enough QB to win some games a few years down the line.

The LAME logo is funny! I wish they'd bring back the '70s uniforms with the bolt OVER THE SHOULDERS instead of over the upper arms. The current look isn't a good one, I don't think.

It'll probably be at least 3 seasons AFTER Rivers retires that the Chargers might be a good team again. I'm just wishing for a much faster defense, especially after watching Adrian Peterson run not only AROUND the Chargers D, but RIGHT BY the defense ON THE SAME PLAY not too long ago! Lots of things need fixing, and they need to rebuild quickly!

At least LT is in the Hall!

The move seems incomprehensible from the standpoint of the Chargers. I'm sure the league sees Los Angeles as "New York City West" and just cannot accept that the market will not support a team in each conference no matter what history tells them.
