I own the 2090 set in online and was wondering about Brute's card. His stats say that he takes control on a roll of 1-6 on first level defense and 1-3 on second level defense. Is this a misprint or is he really that bad a dude in 2090?

Yes, indeed! Brute has all Reverses on Level 1 Defense! Half of them puts Brute on Level 1 Offense, and the other half has Brute on Level 2 Offense.
His original 2087 card does not have these many Reverses (I checked, at least his 1986 first re-print card doesn't). I guess his 2090 update was to counter-balance the lone Level 3 move on his Level 2 Offense. I always wondered why Brute would only have ONE Level 3 move on Level 2 Offense.
I used to have the Limited Edition Larry Snelly artwork card with the artwork of Brute pushing out the card's (old) borders. I wish I still had that! I don't remember what year's game edition that was from though. (Or was that part of a later edition, perhaps 2093?)
Anyway, to answer your question: No mistake, Brute has SIX Reverses on his Level 1 Defensive Card in 2090!

The Larry Snelly Brute SE Card was for Sudden Death 2095. Massacre and Bishop Hell also had the SE treatment in 2095.

I really have to dig through all my stuff to find my CotG items that I have left to see if I still have any SE cards! I absolutely LOVE Snelly's artwork!

No problem. I always try to keep track of the characters for reference purposes. Larry Snelly have done a super job on just a few sets including Classics 2079. Just picture if he continued to do characters for fg up to the current set. Not that I'm not putting down any current artists or anything as they do a decent job as well. But the online versions are an example of what could have been. Really great stuff.

Yes, absolutely!
I also liked Bendis' take on the ones he drew. No wonder he went on to bigger things!

The lone "-3" offensive move on Level 2 was part of the strategy for the Gladiators as a Tag Team. Brute was you guy on level 1 offense and Massacre on Level 2, then back to Brute for Level 3. This was one of the first real attempts to have a Tag Team that had strengths to play off of each other and make decisions to tag in and out towards using those strengths to achieve success.

In the two runthroughs I had from 2087 onward, I never thought of that! It sure does make sense though!

In all my years playing GWF, I have never thought that you could freely tag in people like that. I always thought that the only way you could tag someone in was through the (tag) option on the card. I wonder what other little tips and tricks I am missing?

Oh yeah, you can always tag out on offense. The (tag) moves are simply mandatory tags. Funny thing though nothing really stops you from performing the tag move, getting the result and immediately having the guy tag right back in.
