Just curious: do you pronounce the "e" at the end of Ted DiBiase's name? I remember Larry Matysik calling the young clean shaven babyface "DiBias" without the "e."

I had been trying to forget about that pronunciation of Ted Dibiase's name, I always hated hearing it said like that. Was there ever any reason given for Matysik saying his last name that way?

Not sure there was any more reason than Gordon always pronouncing the move a suplay, or when Peter Maivia debuted Vince having a different pronunciation than what we would eventually come to know when the Rock debuted.

Good point, Troy, as I also remember suplay very well from Gordon and also the different Maivia pronunciation from McMahon when he had his early WWWF television bouts.

Reminds me a bit of Keeping Up Appearances......"it's not Bucket...it's Booquet...it's French" adding the e can make it sound more pretentious.

Live from the historic Chase Hotel in beautiful downtown St. Louis, It's episode 12 of LWF: Wrestling at the Chase! 1. Ted DiBiase vs. Ron Hutchinson DiBiase hit Hutchinson with a powerslam early but was clearly toying with him. Hutchinson rallied and locked on the Shediac Lobster Trap but DiBiase made it to the ropes. DiBiase made a comeback and locked on the Cobra Clutch for the win. As Ted Dibiase left the ring, Larry Matysik got on the mic and announced Matt Riddle would be out of action for a couple weeks and unable to compete at River City Rampage. DiBiase laughed until Matysik announced his replacement, Jeff Cobb! 2. QT Marshall vs. Lio Rush Rush started strong but Marshall’s power advantage turned the tide. Marshall hit the Glamour Shot for a near fall. Marshall nailed God’s Gift but Rush kicked out. Marshall distracted the referee and RD Evans clocked Rush from behind. Rush went down like a ton of bricks and Marshall made the cover but it wasn’t enough. Rush rallied and knocked Marshall senseless with a lariat. Rush threw Marshall out to the floor and hit a breathtaking moonsault into the crowd. Evans helped his man back into the ring before he was counted out. Rush hit the reverse hurracanrana but it wasn’t enough to put Marshall away. Rush hit Rush Hour from the top turnbuckle for the win. 3. Adam Cole vs. Matthew Cross The two men jockied for control. Cole took Cross down with a reverse DDT and hit the Panama Sunrise for a near fall. Cole hit his signature hold twice more but couldn’t stop Matthew Cross! Cross made a comeback and mauled Cole on the outside. Cross locked on the Bow and Arrow but Cole managed to escape the hold. Cross dragged Cole to the center of the ring and locked on the Bow and Arrow a second time for the win. The announcers speculated that Cole’s morale had to be low going into his match with Nigel McGuinness after the loss. 4. Bruiser Brody vs. Steve Corino Corino had the advantage for about ten seconds. Brody turned the tide with his strength and downed Corino with the one-hand body slam before hitting a crushing Jumping Knee Drop for a quick win. 5. Michael Elgin & Lou Thesz vs. Harley Race & Keith Lee Elgin and Race started the match. Elgin took control and hit the buckle bomb and tagged in Lou Thesz. Race made a comeback and threw Thesz to the outside. Race plastered Thesz with a chair and rolled him back into the ring. Race dropped Thesz with a vertical suplex and tagged in Lee. Lee hit Ground Zero for a near fall. Lee hit the Meteor but Thesz easily kicked out. Thesz made a comeback and rocked Lee with a series of dropkicks for a near fall. Thesz threw Lee out of the ring and hit the release power bomb on the floor. Race rolled Lee back into the ring, breaking the count. Lee was jawing with Race and Thesz hit the Greco-Roman Backdrop for a near fall and tagged in Elgin. Elgin hit the Elgin Bomb for the win while Thesz held off Harley Race. Lee and Race got into a shoving match after the match and were pulled apart by security as the show went off the air.

Nice to see Hutchison give DiBiase a bit of a challenge and I'm not sure I've ever seen a more unlikely team than Thesz and Elgin.

Nice to see Hutchison give DiBiase a bit of a challenge and I'm not sure I've ever seen a more unlikely team than Thesz and Elgin. I was praying Hutchinson wouldn't win for a little while there. Since I don't have tag belts or even a tag team division, I plan on doing more unlikely tag team main events. Although I won't be doing the illogical "these two guys are wrestling at the next big event so we'll have them team up and see what happens" thing.
