Interesting and contrasting match-ups for round 1.
Picking Macho over Dibiase for the title. with Macho over Race and Dibiase over Hennig in the semis. However, this tournament could go in so many directions as like five or six contenders have a good shot.

There are a couple angles coming out of the tournament that I'm excited about.

Live from the historic Checkerdome in St. Louis, Missouri, it's The Battle for the Belt! Larry Matysik greeted the crowd from the center of the ring and reminded them The Battle for the Belt is a one night tournament for the LWF Midwest Heavyweight title. The second round matches will be determined randomly and the winner of the tournament will be awarded the title, which he then held in the air. Matysik reminded the crowd to watch Wrestling at the Chase every Sunday morning at 11 and took his seat at ringside and the show began.
1. Randy Savage vs. Michael Elgin: The two men locked up and Elgin got the early advantage with his impressive stretch. The two men battled back and forth and Elgin was able to gain the advantage on the outside, body slamming Savage on a ringside table. Elgin rolled back into the ring and waited. Savage climbed on the apron and rolled Elgin up with a sunset flip for a near fall. The match spilled to the outside again and Savage took control with a double axe handle from the top rope to the floor. Elgin barely beat the count back into the ring. Elgin tried to mount a comeback but couldn't keep the momentum going. Savage planted him in the center of the ring and hit the flying elbow smash but Elgin kicked out! The momentum shifted Elgin's way after a botched turnbuckle charge and Elgin hit the Avalanche Elgin Bomb but the Macho Man kicked out! Elgin jawed at the referee about the speed of the count and Savage hit him with a knee from behind, sending him tumbling out of the ring. The two men brawled into the crowd and blasted each other with chair shots. The referee lost control and disqualified Elgin to the bafflement of the audience! Elgin and Savage continued brawling until security pull them apart. Savage advances to the second round of the LWF Midwest Heavyweight title tournament in a tainted victory.
2. Harley Race vs. The Destroyer: Race certainly had the hometown advantage as the match began. Race dominated the Destroyer early on and hits the vertical suplex but Destroyer kicked out. A second vertical suplex and Destroyer kicked out once again. Race hit the piledriver but Destroyer got a foot on the ropes. Race argued with the ref and threw the Destroyer to the outside. After slamming Destroyer into the guard rail, Race hit a back suplex for the win. Harley Race advances to the second round of the tournament.
3. Curt Hennig vs. Bruiser Brody: The two men grappled for dominance until Hennig hit the rolling neck snap for a near fall. Hennig went to the top rope but Brody threw him to the mat and went to work. Brody clotheslined Hennig out of his boots but Hennig managed to get his shoulder up. Brody rocked Hennig with the one handed body slam for a near fall. Hennig mounted a comeback and the two men battled back and forth. Brody nailed the Bruiser Backbreaker for a near fall. Hennig went to the top a second time but Brody pulled the referee into the way of a top rope dropkick. Hennig continued working on Brody’s neck and hit a standing dropkick but there was no referee to make the count! Frustrated, he threw Brody out of the ring and blasted him with a chair, busting him open. As he rolled back into the ring, the referee regains consciousness. Brody made it back into the ring and nearly knocked Hennig out with a lariat but Hennig kicked out. Brody planted Hennig and hit the Jumping Knee Drop for the win. Bruiser Brody advances to the second round of the tournament.
4. Lou Thesz vs. Ted DiBiase: DiBiase got on the mic and offered Lou Thesz five thousand dollars to leave the ring. Thesz appeared to think about it and hit DiBiase with a double leg takedown, scattering the money. The referee rang the bell and the match was on. The two men battled back and forth and DiBiase rolled Thesz up after a missed turnbuckle charge for a near fall. DiBiase nailed Thesz with a backbreaker but Thesz was able to kick out. DIBiase locked on the Cobra Clutch but Thesz made it to the ropes. DiBiase threw Thesz out of the ring and suplexed him on the concrete. Thesz made it back to his feet and dragged DiBiase under the bottom rope and power bombed him on the floor. Thesz rolled DiBiase back into the ring and hit the Greco-Roman Backdrop but DiBiase got his shoulder up before the three count. Thesz hoisted DiBiase up in the airplane spin but it wasn’t enough to put the Million Dollar Man away. Thesz hit a second Greco Roman Backdrop for the win.
The show took a ten minute intermission. When the commentators came back to ringside, Larry Matysik got on the mic and announced that in the second round, Harley Race would be taking on Bruiser Brody and Lou Thesz would be wrestling Randy Macho Man Savage!
5. Bruiser Brody vs. Harley Race: Brody and Race spent the first few minutes testing one another, exchanging blows and battling back and forth. A few minutes in, Race hit a back suplex for a near fall. The two men brawled all over the ringside, knocking over Larry Matysik and Mickey Garagiola. Race regained control and hit the piledriver for a near fall. Race nailed Brody with a backbreaker but it wasn’t enough to put Brody away. Race finally hit the vertical suplex and got the win. Race advanced to the finals.
6. Randy Savage Vs. Lou Thesz: Savage took the fight to Thesz before the bell and dominated the first few minutes. Thesz reversed a backdrop and takes control. Thesz hit the Thesz Press and Savage barely kiced out. Thesz hit a second Thesz Press but still couldn't keep Macho Man's shoulders on the mat. Thesz hoisted Savage up and hit the Greco-Roman Backdrop for the win. Thesz advanced to the finals.
7. Harley Race Vs.Lou Thesz for the LWF Midwest Heavyweight title!: The two men men were visibly tired from their earlier efforts but were all business after the opening bell. Race and Thesz battled back and forth and the crowd was split between the two. Thesz rolled up Race after a missed turnbuckle charge for a near fall. Race mounted a comeback and hit a swinging neckbreaker for a near fall. Race went to the top rope but Thesz slams him to the mat and locked on a chinlock to wear him down. Thesz landed a series of dropkicks, nearly putting Handsome Harley away. Thesz hit the Thesz press but Race got a shoulder up. Thesz hoisted Race up and hit the Greco-Roman back drop but Race managed to kick out. Thesz liften Race up in the Airplane spin, wearing him down, but it wasn’t enough to put Race away. Thesz threw Race out of the ring and Race made a comeback on the outside, backdropping Thesz on the concrete. Back in the ring, Race hit a vertical suplex but it was too close to the ropes and Thesz broke the old. Race dragged Thesz to the middle of the ring and drilled him with the piledriver for the win! Harley Race is the LWF Midwest Heavyweight champion!
As Race celebrated in the ring with the belt, Lou Thesz had to be helped to the back, visibly favoring his neck. Larry Matysik got the on mic and thanked the crowd for coming and invited them to watch more LWF wrestling on Wrestling at the Chase, Sunday mornings at 11 on KPLR, channel 11.

That was a fun tourney and it's great to see Harley Race as the first Midwest Heavyweight Champion, good start my friend... Thanks! It went better than I was hoping. I'm going to try to do an old-school feel with a mix of today's wrestlers and the color Legends.
