That would be fantastic! I've always wanted to attend and came close back in 2000, when I lived in PA, but couldn't make it happen. My schedule that time of year has always been crazy due to Shakespeare in the Park the past 9 years and before that I didn't have the $. If it was in my own backyard, however...
And AAW or even Shimmer weekend, would be so great. I could help out with tickets/accommodations/planning, etc.
Let's make it happen :-)

My only gripe was the burning hammer onto the chair being a near fall instead of the finish. This is my gripe with most independent wrestling. I think the guys get too concerned with topping each other and whole cards become a nuclear arms race of big moves. For the record the Janela/Guevara match with the Burning Hammer onto the chair was only the second match on the card. I appreciate the effort and understand the 'we have to prove ourselves' mindset and as I said I liked the match a lot but that particular move being 'just a move' in any match regardless of the position on the card always bugs me. Like yeah I know what modern wrestling is and moves are really just moves but there are some that I don't want to see thrown away. The burning hammer is one of them.

Chicago G-Con would be interesting. Think it might actually be a shorter trip for me than Geek Fest would have been a couple of years ago, although not by a whole lot.

It would be a shame if the burning hammer went the way of the powerbomb, the piledriver, and the DDT. Hell, even the Canadian Destroyer, ridiculous as I think it is, is "just a move" these days.

Much as I hate to say it, it probably will. Part of it's probably due to nobody willing to tell guys "no". Obviously nothing in wrestling is sacred, but I think there comes a point when guys shouldn't touch certain moves without a damn good reason and that move is one of them. If it's a move that the guy who popularized it only used in certain scenarios when his other finishers didn't work, why piss on it and do it as a nothing move right before you hit your own shit for the finish?

There's nothing like that now.

Didn't Kobashi only pull out the burning hammer a couple times a year? There's nothing like that now. From 1998 to 2006 he did seven of them. Three on Misawa (1998, 1999, 2003), two on Akiyama (2000, 2004), one on Taue (2004), one on KENTA (2006). Imagine someone having an ace in the hole move like that now instead of hitting the same finishers multiple times. EDIT: Looking at it now, it's kind of funny how the Burning Hammer is a move associated with 90s All Japan when the majority of the times Kobashi used it were in NOAH.

Vegas as Tournament Master said, AAW has a rep for being up there with PWG and you should totally make the trek! Obviously, all I can go with is comparing live vs. bluray/dvd... Equally, obvious: I need to change that and will warmly take you up on your offer when I get out there. The offer is the same should you make it to AAW in 2018! well this year I finally made it to PCW and (unless something unexpected happens) next month I will be at Wrestle Circus. Two feds I would like to check out in 2018 are AAW in Chicago and DEFY in Seattle (the latter partially due to me flying there twice a year to visit family.) I have a Russian friend in Chicago who used to live here in Las Vegas and would often drive with me to PWG and back. He has told me in the past he really likes to go to AAW alot, but not as much as attending PWG. He is the only one I know who has attended both promotions. I am open minded however and I am sure I would enjoy AAW. And it would be good to visit Chicago again (so far I have been there twice) for a weekend and there are usually a number of inexpensive flights from Las Vegas to Chicago.
