Joe Koff Says ROH Streaming Service Will Launch in Early 2018R ing of Honor is getting into the streaming game, as COO Joe Koff announced on Thursday that the company will be launching their own over the top network in early 2018.
Koff told a local CBS affiliate that the company has an app coming out in the first quarter of 2018 and explained, “It really became developmentally the right time to do it.”
“We saw an opportunity. We had a long discussion about it. We looked at the business model and how it impacts our business. We just felt that this was the time to create our own Ring of Honor stream.”
Joe says he’d like to see ROH migrate to streaming full time, instead of the PPV model, but things seem to currently be up in the air.
As for what fans can expect from the service, Koff said: “You’re going to see an enhanced Honor Club. We tested it during the Global Wars Tour of streaming house shows to ringside members. You’re going to see a lot more content available, not only to everybody, but certainly in that Honor Club.”www.prowrestlingsheet.com/roh-joe-koff-streaming-2018/#.WgabuIiIY2w

It's about time they did something to attempt to monetize that library.

I am hoping this also means they will stream more of their live events.

Awesome. They've been leaving money on the table for years with this. I wonder if it'll go all the way back to the beginning.

Awesome. They've been leaving money on the table for years with this. I wonder if it'll go all the way back to the beginning. If they want it to survive long-term, it's gonna have to. By the same token I'm not sure I want to watch Gabe era ROH with dubbed over theme songs for the same reason I don't like watching ECW on the Network. The music was super important to the product because everyone's theme song fit them perfectly. I can't imagine watching a 2006-2008 Danielson entrance without hearing "The Final Countdown" or a Homicide entrance without "The Truth" or Punk's entrance without "Miseria Cantare (The Beginning)". People have heard for years about how guys like Danielson, Joe, AJ, Punk, etc. made their names in ROH but outside of those occasionally badly put together and under-printed comp DVDs, they've really done nothing to get that footage into the hands of the fans. I can't imagine it'll have much appeal to anyone other than current ROH fans if they don't have a significant amount of the catalog on there. Price point's going to be a big thing too. I don't think they're goofy enough to charge more than $10 but part of me thinks they just might do it. It's an interesting time for them, for sure. I hope it succeeds. The more people exposed to the peak of that company in terms of in ring work, the better.

How were they able to produce the DVDs originally with music they didn't have the license for?
I could easily see ROH pricing themselves out of the market on the streaming service.

From my understanding it's the same way that ECW and basically every indie since has gotten away with it. If you're a small indepdendent wrestling company, they're probably not gonna find out about you using their music and since they probably don't know about it, they're less likely to sue.

If I ever start a fly by night wrestling organization, it's your job to remind me not to do this in the event it actually goes someplace.

I am interested if it has the backlog of shows and if the price is right. Knowing RoH this will be FloSlam level pricing.

if this streaming service includes the live events as they happen it would have been great to have this service going this weekend for Survival of the Fittest
