In other words, I'm just starting and want to put titles on wrestlers so they can defend them.

Ummm you.........hmmmm
I personally would act like titles are vacated and at least have a match between two wrestlers to see who becomes the champion.....Otherwise I think you will have to create a segment into your show saying, "these are the champions" or whatever and add a title change to the segment giving the belts to whoever you want.....
Other than that I don't think there is a way to just put a title on someone.

So I have to start with all titles vacant? How does that make sense continuity wise since the GWF didn't begin in 2087?

So I have to start with all titles vacant? How does that make sense continuity wise since the GWF didn't begin in 2087? Well for me, I've not played Early Classics so I didn't have the history and started 2087 willy nilly and just had a championship match between Star Warrior and Thantos to see who the champions were. Like I said you don't have to do a match, but with Online, you cannot (as far as I know) give a title to someone without doing one of the two following... (1) Have a match or tournament (whatever suits taste) and at the final match or main event say it is for whatever title you want it for. Then after you input the match you can add a title change saying who is the champion....or.... (2) On CotGOnline there is an option to add segments to the cards. Make a segment, say whatever you want to....like welcome to the GWF here are your champions...yada yada yada...or whatever you want to say. Then after you add the segment you can add a title change to the segment and set what belt you want on who. I know it seems weird but as of this moment these are the only two ways to do it (that I know of) if you have the history in your fed just have your next title match as you normally would, and if the champ stays champ still add a title change to the match and if not add a title change to the new champion.....

Actually, according to the EC book Champions of the Galaxy purchased GWF from Omega in March of 2087. The contracts were signed and a tournament was formed to crown new Galaxian and Galaxian Tag Champs. Technically that's an alternative universe storyline, but I personally take it as official. There is another way to "appoint" champions. Hold a press conference and add a title change to the segment where the champions are "appointed." It is just like any other title change on online.
I know some of this is already covered, but I just wanted to reittirate.
