Nah, Kenny wasn't carried. Those matches were athletic showcases. That's his wheelhouse. A hate filled hardcore match is not. I may have exaggerated a bit. I just think this shows that Omega is a great athlete and a great worker but not the all around great wrestler that everyone thinks. Atleast not yet. I think if, at this stage in his career, the concept of 'maybe I *shouldn't* do some hokey shit in this match' doesn't cross his mind it likely never will. Again, great athlete and he can have some exciting matches but I don't think he 'gets it' like a lot are convinced he does.

I may have exaggerated a bit. I just think this shows that Omega is a great athlete and a great worker but not the all around great wrestler that everyone thinks. Atleast not yet. His next incarnation comes when he finally wins the belt. As for the comedy stuff. I mark for it. It's part of his character that made me a fan to begin with. Hell, I mark out when he used his spray can mechanic on his card. He's like Jericho before Jericho was undisputed champ. I think that's why Jericho likes him so much. Reminds him of himself. I like his comedy stuff too. Its just that there is a time and place for that, look at Yano it works for his place on the card and he down plays it at the proper times. In a no dq match against the guy that busted you open is not a time for comedy. If it turns out that Omega being out of his element was part of the story of the match and the lesson he learned from facing Jericho is what he needs to finally beat Okada for the title then i will bow down to the wrestling god that Don Callis claims Omega is. But until then i will continue to believe that Kenny Omega doesn't understand his place on the card.

Okada/Omega III happened in the G1 and you're right, Naito isn't any of those guys. He's the guy who showed what Okada was capable of in 2012, the guy who showed that Omega really belonged in the main event scene in the 2016 G1 and the guy who got in all likelihood the last super high end matches out of Tanahashi. If someone in WWE got so hot it lead to WrestleMania doing significantly better business than the year before and they got jobbed out to Roman or Cena, people would complain. I guess I mean Okada vs Omega for the belt a 3rd time. Omega deserves it. Maybe then Naito takes it off of him then later defends vs Okada. That's what I'd like to see. Well, Gedo likes rehashing angles so him re-heating that Okada/AJ series from 2015 makes perfect sense.

AXS put out trailers for the top two matches for the show. Reminder that the WK12 SP is accompanied by a huge marathon so if you don't know what's lead up to the Dome show or you just want to kill a shit ton of time watching wrestling, you may want to check it out.

Well almost seven hours later I can finally chime in. I got home from work and turned on NJPW World and had to do a double take with the 6:38 run time but I watched it all from the Rumble on. I loved the card overall and I thought Chris Jericho killed it. I understand the hate for Kenny Omega going for the spray can as it was a callback to his more goofy persona but it didn't kill the match for me. I loved the finish. This is a match I will definitely go back and watch again. The main event was great as well though I was a bit bummed when Tetsuya Naito lost.
Kazuchika Okada has pretty much run through his challengers now so the result is questionable. My only thought about the decision to not change the title is that with the global push they are making, especially coming off of this show which certainly attracted more viewers due to Jericho vs. Omega, maybe they want to have Okada as the guy to showcase to the new audience? Just a thought. At any rate I am a happy new subscriber to NJPW World and am looking forward to more live events beginning with New Year's Dash later today.

Looks like the big matches for the next tour are: IWGP Heavyweight Championship: Kazuchika Okada (ch) vs. SANADA IWGP Intercontinental Championship: Hiroshi Tanahashi (ch) vs. Minoru Suzuki IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship: Kenny Omega (ch) vs. Jay White NEVER Openweight Championship: Hirooki Goto (ch) vs. EVIL IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship: Will Ospreay (ch) vs. Hiromu Takahashi Special Single Match: Chris Jericho vs. Tetsuya Naito
They have big shows on 1/27 and 1/28 in Sapporo and 2/10 in Osaka. Guessing Okada/SANADA and Tanahashi/MiSu are gonna happen on the Sapporo shows. Jericho/Naito could realistically headline and sell out Osaka.

Okada accepted SANADA's challenge for the IWGP Title on the condition that SANADA and EVIL defend the IWGP Tag Titles vs. Okada and Goto.
For those wondering, here are the start times (Eastern) for the three New Beginning shows. 1/27 - 4 AM 1/28 - 1 AM 2/10 - 3 AM
