Card #10 – Legacy Of The Legends
Judy Martin v Joyce Grable
We begin the evening with a womens’ match. Grable had no problem lifting Martin into an airplane spin followed by a body slam and a suplex. Grable went for a rope pounce but Martin moved, dropped the leg and scored a nearfall. Martin was thrown into the ropes – Grable dropped to the mat – Martin hopped over and into the ropes – Grable got into position for a back body drop but Martin grabbed and flung her with a hair pull whirly bird. Martin rammed Grable into a ring post then threw her back into the ring for the POWERBOMB finish and win.
Larry Zbyszko v Diamond Dallas Page
As Zbyszko hurled abuse at him, Page smashed his opponent with a series of punches followed by a suplex and a chestbreaker. Another clothesline sent Zbyszko out of the ring. Both wrestlers brawled outside, Zbyszko managing to knee Page on his re-entry. Zbyszko hit a backbreaker for a nearfall. Then a Larryland sleeper was applied but Page reached the ropes. Page fired Zbyszko into the turnbuckle and back bodydropped him. The DIAMOND CUTTER was applied and the three-count was registered.
Ted DiBiase v Brutus Beefcake
A rematch from Wrestlemania 5 (the real event, that is). Both wrestlers traded chops before Beefcake threw DiBiase into the turnbuckle but was caught with a knee to the head. DiBiase reversed an atomic drop and began to dominate his opponent. A suplex, a powerslam and a gutwrench suplex led to a nearfall. Eventually “The Million Dollar Man” put away “The Barber” but it took three consecutive attempts at the COBRA CLUTCH to do it.
Masters Of The Power Bomb v The Road Warriors
The first tag team attraction of the night was also for the LWF Tag Team Championship. The Road Warriors were a controversial choice as they had not yet won a match (but neither had the other face teams). Animal attempted to surprise Vader with a dropkick but it backfired completely allowing Vader to attack with forearms and a suplex. Vicious went for a pinfall with a sidewalk slam but gained a two-count. Animal was cornered and beatdown and hit with the ASSISTED POWER BOMB. Hawk made the save and both teams brawled in the ring. Vader & Vicious threw Hawk out of the ring and Vader crushed Animal with the POWER BOMB to claim tag team gold!
Eddie Gilbert v Blackjack Mulligan
After Gilbert and Stan Hansen double-teamed Mulligan on an earlier card, the Eagle Pass native requested a dog collar match. Since Hansen has disappeared, “Hot Stuff” was forced to participate. As soon as the collars were fitted, Mulligan decked Gilbert with a series of right hands. Gilbert managed to hit a suplex then took the fight outside the ring. Gilbert used the chain to throw Mulligan across the ring then covered for a nearfall. Gilbert went for an atomic drop but Mulligan struck with clubbing forearms then went for the CLAWHOLD. Gilbert attempted to escape but succumbed.
Bob Roop v Dusty Rhodes
Rhodes attempted to scoopslam but Roop gave a thumb to the eye and whipped Rhodes into the ropes. Rhodes rebounded and caught Roop in a piledriver then slapped on the FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK for a nearfall. Rhodes immediately dropped an elbow and scored another two-count. Roop sneaked in a knee smash but missed with an elbow drop. “The American Dream” retaliated with flip, flip & fly, covered, hooked a leg and scored the pinfall.
Greg Valentine v Jim Powers
Valentine gave his opponent a vicious beatdown in a one-sided contest. It mainly consisted of “The Hammer” dropping elbows, making pinfall attempts then hitting another move, wash, rinse, repeat until Powers was finally held down for three.
The Miracle Violence Connection v The Fantastics
Williams took Fulton down to the mat but it was reversed into a hiptoss off the ropes. The Fantastics double-teamed “Dr Death” but he managed to make the tag. Gordy went for a kneelift which was easily dodged. Rogers fired Gordy into the ropes but the bigger man rebounded with an awesome body block. Fulton went for a flying head scissors but missed; Williams replied with a lariat and scored the pinfall victory.
Ric Flair v Antonio Inoki
Once Flair had missed with a buttdrop, the Japanese wrestler began to methodically wear him down with Suplexes and top rope kneedrops. Inoki applied the OCTOPUS HOLD but Flair resisted. Another top rope kneedrop and a two-count. Inoki missed his dropkick and the spectators were expecting a flurry of attacks from “The Nature Boy” but it didn’t happen as Inoki quickly evaded an elbow drop to maintain control. Flair was battered from pillar-to-post, culminating in a huge pinfall win for Inoki after yet another top rope kneedrop.
One Man Gang v Randy Savage
As Savage made his way to ringside, the Gang sneak attacked him. Savage was draped against a ringpost; Gang charged at him, Savage moved and Gang hit the ringpost head on! Savage threw the big guy into the ring and dropped a knee before signalling for his finisher. Savage climbed the turnbuckle, squashed Gang with the FLYING ELBOW SMASH and the three-count was academic. Massive win for “Macho Man”!
Nick Bockwinkel v Jimmy Valiant
To crown the first LWF champion. Bockwinkel wasted no time, attacking Valiant upon his entrance to the ring. Both wrestlers slugged it out with Bockwinkel often getting the better of it. A dropkick and Valiant was floored but he kicked out at two. The match switched to weardown moves and both men executed abdominal stretches in the hope the other would submit. Bockwinkel escaped such hold and hit Valiant with a dropkick. Both men by now fatigued, Bockwinkel slapped on his FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK and “The Boogie Woogie Man” was forced to tap out.
Harley Race & The Midnight Express v Bruiser Brody & The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express
Both teams jeered at each other before Lane and Gibson locked up. Gibson was so quick that, before Lane knew it, he had been back body dropped and then hit with the DOUBLE DROPKICK. Fortunately for him he landed near the ropes and reached them. Brody entered the ring but flung Lane into his corner. Eaton tagged in and went for a bulldog which Brody shrugged off. However, the Midnights caught Brody with a double goozle. Brody managed to tag in Gibson who flattened Lane with a back elbow smash, made the cover and scored the pinfall. Race, unable to get in on the action, shrugged his shoulders and left.
