An awesome album. An original Megafroce records pressing of Metallica’s ‘Kill em All’ on vinyl. Its in very good condition. Been in the market for an original pressing of ‘Ride the Lightning’, but I’ve found that copies of it are sort of up there in price. I also have some original Judas Priest and Blue Oyster Cult pressings that are in near mint condition, though ‘Kill em All’ is by far the rarest album I own. One of my hobbies is collecting classic rock/metal albums on vinyl. Been into it since around 2003 when my dad handed all of his records down to me. I only collect albums I enjoy though. I’m not a completionist in the sense that I need everything on vinyl ever pressed. That’s overkill to me. I enjoy the music and find vinyl to be a really fun format. I’m somewhat of an audiophile and it is true that you can hear a difference if the pressing is of good quality and you have a high-quality turntable and headphones. However, if you listen to music through open air speakers, you lose that difference in sound. To be able to hear and enjoy it you really need headphones. High quality 180-gram vinyl is the way to go as a lot of pressings from the late 70’s and 80’s was of middling to poor quality due to the oil shortage from the period. A lot of vinyl was pressed on recycled ‘wax’. Any other vinyl fans on here?

Oh, yeah. I have a vinyl collection of about 500 LPs. I have an extensive amount of metal and thrash from the 80s as I was buying this stuff when it originally came out. You name it, from the big name acts to the obscure bands with only an album or two. I have lots of of other stuff too but mostly old school metal.
I don't listen to much on vinyl anymore. I cherry picked some of the old stuff to upgrade to CD along with buying anything new in that format as well. I just never had the desire to upgrade and maintain a turntable just to listen to old stuff once in a while. My CD collection surpassed my vinyl in number many years ago.
I remember buying Kill 'Em All when it came out and not caring for it much. A year or so later when Ride The Lightning came out I bought it because it was the only thing out that week that looked interesting. Turned out that I loved it and was a big Metallica fan for a while.

Turned out that I loved it and was a big Metallica fan for a while. Ride the Lightning, on tape, was the first Metallica album I ever heard and really, the first Metal album and it has remained my favorite album of all time ever since. Most of the albums I own on vinyl (around 200) I also own digitally or on CD (I have well over 700 CDs). That's awesome that you have a bunch of original pressing of classic Metal and Thrash albums. I'm seriously jealous. I'm always on the lookout for them, but when it comes to albums I'll actually play on vinyl, I try to find rereleases on high quality vinyl if I can. I stumbled across an original pressing of 'Fistful of Metal' by Anthrax in surprisingly excellent condition along with 'Spreading the Disease', which is in not quite as good condition, some years back. Its become harder and harder to find great used Metal albums anymore. Collectors have ruined it for fans in that sense. I recently picked up Exodus' 'Fabulous Disaster' on picture disk, Destruction's 'Cracked Brain' on colored vinyl and the rerelease of 'Eternal Nightmare' by Vio-Lence (a personal favorite).

I picked up a fairly nice USB SONY turntable about a year back that allows me to rip my vinyl in hi-res quality to digital and paired it with a pair of hi-res capable SONY headphones and that's my preferred way of listening, though I still enjoy every now and then putting a record on the table and spinning it.
It has a lot to do with enjoying the aesthetics for me I think.
