SLAM Avenue
Saturday, February 24
(Aerial shot of the House Of Slam and traffic around it)
MAURO RANALLO
You are looking live at the former Hara Arena in Dayton, OH. Now known as the House Of SLAM, it welcomes professional wrestling for the first time in nearly 20 years. We welcome you to SLAM Avenue.....
(Video package of various wrestling promotions starts)
COREY GRAVES
In an old hockey barn in Dayton, OH, Big Time Wrestling became popular in the late 1960's. It would be followed by such promotions as Georgia Championship Wrestling, WWF, WCW, and ECW......Now thanks to a wrestling legend, professional wrestling lives in Dayton once again.......
SCOTT (owner)
I signed the baddest and the best male and female wrestlers. I told them to be prepared to fight, without all the gaga, caca, cliches, and stereotypes of wrestling that they once knew. This was a new day. Then I found the right man to bring the best out of them
COREY
…....And that man would be one of the toughest men ever to step foot into the ring, a man that would tell you he wasn't that great of a wrestler, but he was always ready for a fight, a fight against anyone, and everyone, at any time, all the time.....And now, in the confines of the old hockey barn, now known as the House Of Slam, this legendary fighter has but one message for all of us......
JACKIE FARGO
Welcome to SLAM Avenue! Now put 'em up, pally, 'cause this is gonna hurt!
(Inside the House Of Slam as camera pans cheering crowd)
MAURO
And along with The Fabulous Jackie Fargo, we welcome you to SLAM Avenue on Fox Sports 1. Hello everyone, Mauro Ranallo alongside Corey Graves and Mean Gene Okerlund, and Corey, the excitement is in the air and it is thick
COREY
That's a great way to put it, Mauro, people here in Dayton, OH, are excited to have good old fashioned, smashmouth wrestling back in their hometown, wouldn't you say Mean Gene?
GENE OKERLUND
Indeed so, Mauro and Corey, the excitement is in the air as Mauro said, not only for wrestling returning to Dayton, OH, but for the matchups on the card tonight
(Camera goes to a box suite where Adam Cole and Veda Scott are sitting)
MAURO
There you see Adam Cole and Veda Scott, your current interim champions in their respective divisions, and they'll be anxiously watching tonight and the next two weeks in order to scout competition for The Big Dance, here on March 17
Let's take a quick look at the pre-show action that kicked off tonight's card. First off, Jessie McKay faced Mercedes Martinez (highlight reel rolls)
COREY
And after this match she may want to rethink doing it again, Mauro. Mercedes with an absolute beatdown of Jessie, using a strong forearm at will. Jessie tried mounting a comeback but Mercedes just too dominant tonight, taking the win with the FISHERMAN'S BUSTER at 4:06
MAURO
Kicking it off for the men was what was expected to be an absolute hoss fight, as “King Kong” Angelo Mosca collided with Tugboat Taylor
COREY
Both men coming in at around the 320-pound mark, both men landing heavy blows early, but neither man able to establish a clear advantage at the four minute mark, Mosca then begins to hurt Taylor by just plain outbrawling him, then scores with a football tackle and locks on the SLEEPER to take the match at 6:20
MAURO
An interesting clash of styles up next, as Nora Greenwald collides with Asuka
COREY
It would actually be referee Heather Owens that played an instrumental part in this match. Greenwald takes early control by grounding Asuka, then on a corner whip ends up colliding with Owens on a charge, giving Asuka an opening for a rollup. From there it was all Asuka with her submission offense, until she decided to send Greenwald out of the ring. Asuka and Greenwald get into a huge brawl, and as Owens tries to intervene Asuka sends her hard into the rail, drawing the immediate disqualification and most likely, a suspension. Bill Alfonso working outside the ring tonight, prevents any further damage to Heather Owens, who after being checked out was pronounced OK. Time of the match 5:04
MAURO
And finally The Patriot Del Wilkes takes on one half of the Jollyville Jeepers, the wrestler simply known as Clean
COREY
Clean was more than a match for Del Wilkes despite giving up nearly 100 pounds and five inches of height, and even after getting blood drawn from a table, kept coming after Wilkes. Wilkes squeaks by with the PATRIOT MISSILE which manages to knock Clean cold for the win at 4:57. If Clean can recover from this and keep wrestling like he did tonight, he's going to give a lot of people fits (Highlight reel ends and we are back to live action)
GAVIN LOUDSPEAKER (in the ring with guitar)
SLAMsters, I have one question for you....Who wants to Walk Down SLAM Avenue? (Big pop, as Gavin begins playing a blues riff on his guitar)
It's high noon in Dayton
And here in the place
Walk up to somebody
Hit them in the face
There's a rumble in Dayton
A neighborhood fight
SLAM Avenue is the place
That you'll want to be tonight
There's gonna be....blood and bruises
From beginning till the end
They've come to SLAM Avenue
'Cause they want wrestling again!
(Big crowd pop)
VANESSA KRAVEN VS SUPERNOVA
In an absolute savage battle, SuperNova was able to make use of her superior agility and defeat Vanessa Kraven by the skin of her teeth, catching her with the Supernova Scissors Flip for the pin at 7:49
MAGNUM TA VS JEFF COBB
Although Magnum TA was game, Cobb's assortment of slams and suplexes was just too much. It would take a Moonsault And Shooting Star Press to put Magnum away at the 5:57 mark
JESSICA JAMES VS AMAZONIA
Amazonia not fooling around tonight, as she locks on the Savage Claw almost right from the get go. JJ manages to escape but gets thrown outside and viciously powerbombed on the floor for the quick win at 1:01
BIG DADDY VS CW ANDERSON
This match degenerated into a back and forth brawl very quickly, and Big Daddy, who is not known for his brawling skills, more than held his own against CW Anderson, as it seemed like most of this match was spent outside the ring. The end came, outside the ring, as CW Anderson was DQ'd for disobeying Referee Tommy Young's instructions at 10:02, giving the match to Big Daddy
PORTIA PEREZ VS RAIN
A hard fought, back and forth battle between two heavy hitting females, which would be won by Portia Perez as she hits Rain with a Jaw Breaker at 10:05 for the pinfall win
LOU THESZ VS LES THATCHER
In what some are considering a major upset, Les Thatcher defeats Lou Thesz with the STUMP PULLER at 4:26. Les more than held his own with Lou inside the ring, but when Lou sent the action outside, Les did not hesitate to nail him with a steel chair which dazed Lou, setting up the upset.
MAURO
A great opening night of wrestling here at The House Of SLAM
COREY
It was indeed Mauro, as Del Wilkes and Mercedes Martinez jump into the number one contender's spots, now let's see if they can hold on to them in the weeks to come as we head for The Big Dance
MAURO
And with that, we'll roll up the sidewalks here at SLAM Avenue for this night. For Corey Graves, Gavin Loudspeaker, and Mean Gene Okerlund, I'm Mauro Ranallo, and we'll see you next week. Good night everybody!
