I saw Ready Player One tonight. If you can, see it in IMAX. Good movie that you will probably like even more if you are familiar with 1980s pop culture (cool to see the main character drive a DeLorean- ironically I actually saw the real DeLorean from all 3 Back to the Futures last weekend when I drove back to Las Vegas as it is on display at a casino just outside of town.) Also, without giving anything away, you might want to see The Shining again before going to this movie.
There have not been many movies I thought were worth going to the theater so far in 2018 (this was my first movie since Black Panther,) but this is definitely worth it IMO.

I read this book a few weeks back then I bought the movie. For those that have never done either watch the movie first. God I wish I had. I know movies tend to be different than a book but this wasn't even close. It started bad right from the start and went down hill from there. I ended up stopping it half way thru. I will try it again after many, many months. I am sure the movie is good but it strays SO much I could not deal with it right now.
People complain about remakes and reboots but a greater evil is buying source material to make a movie then butchering it. Mostly cashing in on the name. This was worst case since World War Z.

Yes, there is a big difference between the movie and the book. I saw the movie first and really enjoyed the movie, then read the book afterwards. I find that you have to separate yourself from the book and movie experience or you will be let down with more times the movie. All my friends who have not read the book really enjoyed the movie.

I've seen a few movies after reading the book and expected it to be different and dealt with it. But nothing as bad as this. It felt like they tried to change it as much as they could while still somehow keeping connected to the book.

Myself and my best friend from high school had this discussion years ago, which is better to have the book experience or the movie experience first. I normally would say go with the movie experience first, unless the book/movie is something like a mystery or who do it property. For example, material like Now you see me, Murder on the Orient Express, Harry Potter movies, etc. I would read the books first. Two books I have always wanted to read but haven't gotten around to it is The Three Musketeers and Count of Monte Crisco. To see what the differences are from all the movies that have been based off the original source material.

But as I recall most movies keep fairly close to the book. Speaking of book to movie a perfect example of the good, bad and ugly is Where the Heart Is. The movie changes small things that make sense like eliminating characters and combing some which saves an actor/money. It also changes small things for no apparent reason that don't effect the story. The worst was tweaking the ending that changed the characters motivation and hurt the movie.
