AUGUST 26 2018 / THE PHOENIX CONCERT THEATRE, TORONTO
Northern Indy Tag Team Title Round Robin: Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas) DQ C & C Wrestle Factory (Cedrick Alexander & Caprice Coleman.
Charlie Haas was cut off early on from his corner by C & C quick tags and double teaming. A suplex/senton combo almost ended it before Benjamin was able to get into the action and the momentum turned. Alexander took a serious beating. Twice he was saved by his partner after Benjamin hit PAYDIRT. Coleman was finally able to get the tag but could not get anything going. He managed to kick out twice after PAYDIRT before Haas took the action outside. Coleman stunned Haas with a running high knee than knocked Haas onto the ringside table before Coleman went to the apron and the spring boarded off the ropes with an Asai Moonsault putting Haas through the table. The referee called for the disqualification as ringside erupted in chants and cheers.
Sara Del Rey b. Courtney Rush
It was back at the Battle of Ontario that Del Rey turned on her Queens of Wrestling partner and left her in a heap after their team dropped a match to Regeneration X. Rush came to Toronto looking for payback but left with disappointment as this one was really over before it got going with Del Rey dominating from the opening lock up and quickly putting away Rush with a ROYAL BUTTERFLY.
Pure Violence Match: Tommaso Ciampa b. Roderick Strong w/Truth Martini
The intensity between these two continued to build in their two previous encounters leading to this violent showdown that turned out to be anything but a brawl. The action was hard hitting for sure but stayed in the ring the entire match. Strong landed his sick kick twice but Ciampa thrilled the fans with a pair of last second kick outs before coming back by catching Strong on the top buckle and slamming him to the mat. Ciampa immediately hit PROJECT CIAMPA for big near fall and then went to work with knees and a lengthy bridging facelock. Ciampa kept the pressure on leading to another PROJECT CIAMPA for the stunning victory. After the match, Strong is not pleased with Martini and leaves the ring alone.
Northern Indy Tag Team Title Round Robin: Briscoe Brothers (Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe) b. Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas)
A win in this one would have given WGTT the Legacy Tag Team Titles but they arrived to the ring against a fresh Briscoe Brother battered and bruised. Haas in particular was in rough shape with his ribs heavily taped as a result of going through a table in the opening contest. Benjamin carried the load for his team and desperately tried for the early win catching both Briscoes with PAYDRIRT but coming away with only near falls. Despite his condition, Haas found a great equalized in a chair that used liberally on Mark Briscoe much to the fans displeasure. The Briscoe stepped up their attack cutting of Benjamin. Haas was able to make the pin save after a SLINGSHOT LARIAT but Mark Briscoe ended it moments later with a brutal suplex.
Norther Indy Title Match: Wrestling’ Worst Nightmare” Kevin Steen b. El Generico
There was some debate as to whether or not Generico would receive this rematch after Steen trounced him in their last outing to take the title but the fans were sure glad promoters signed the match because this one was epic. Generico was lifted immediately by the crowd chants and struck early and often leading to a huge BRAINBUSTAAAHHH!!! (6) that blew away the fans. But not as much as Steen’s micro last second kick out. From that point, Generico became man possessed and hit Steen with every move in his arsenal. Twice Steen had to kick out after a SPIKE BRAINBUSTER. An exploder suplex into the turnbuckle nearly killed Steen but did not give Generico the gold. Generico took the fight outside and showed he can brawl with Steen even using a chair to bust open the champion. Yakuza Kicks landed twice and gave Generico two more near falls. Steen was desperate and resorted to biting his challenger which stunned Generico just enough for a bloody and exhausted Steen to hit an F-CINQ. Both men were down and out but Steen arm was over Generico allowing the referee to make the three count with Generico raising his shoulder a split second too late.
“Unbreakable” Michael Elgin w/Truth Martini b. Jay Lethal, Adam Cole w/Mia Yim & Kyle O’Reilly
With all four of these competitors in the ring at one time, anything could happen. Lethal gets the best of Cole early on while Elgin and O’Reilly brawl all over the pace. Lethal cannot put Cole away after a crowd pleasing Hail to the King. Soon Cole and Lethal go outside allowing Elgin & O’Reilly the spotlight. Elgin brings his power game tonight and dominates. O’Reilly survives a SPINNING SIT-OUT POWERBOMB but a charging lariat spins O’Reilly inside out and leads to the three count. Cole and Lethal are too busy brawling in the crowd to get back to the ring to make any type of save.
Northern Indy Tag Team Title Round Robin: Briscoe Brothers (Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe) b. C & C Wrestle Factory (Credric Alexander & Caprice Coleman)
The Briscoe Brothers were fired up from the outset and cut off Coleman from his corner. Mark Briscoe nails Coleman with a killer enzugiri but Coleman makes the save. They hit Coleman with a SLINGSHOT LARIAT but Alexander makes the save a second time. Coleman is out on his feet when the Briscoe Brother hit a DOUBLE FOOTBALL TACKLE to win the titles. David Marquez comes out and presents Mark and Jay Briscoe with the title belts much to the pleasure of the fans.
Dog Collar Match: “Zombie Princess” Jimmy Jacobs b. Homicide
Homicide used the chain to fling Jacobs across the ring early on in whiplash causing move. Jacobs battled back using the chair to crotch Homicide and then choke him out. Jacobs broke out his RAILROAD SPIKE and bloodied Homicide. Jacobs took the fight to the floor where Homicide used a chunk of the broken table from earlier in the night to deck Jacobs. Back in the ring, Jacobs regains the advantage and uses a series of THE END OF TIME to squeeze the blood from Homicide. Homicide manages to make the ropes several times but Jacobs keeps on his breaking out his RAILROAD SPIKE once again and then covering Homicide for the three count. Homicide is left in a bloody and batter heap while Jacobs soaks up the heat from ringside.
