Asheville Civic CenterSold OutLas Reinas director Wendi Jo Hurd came out to start the show, thanking the fans for attending the show and for all who have supported the Las Reinas tournament. She thanked the teams that entered this year, then brought out each team to the ring and introduced them to the fans. However, when it came time to announce the mystery team, no team came from the dressing room.. Each team that did come to the ring was wearing the official Las Reinas de la Ring t-shirt. Photos were taken of all the women in the ring before they headed back to the dressing room to prepare for their matches. Ms. Hurd thanked the fans one more time and then the tournament began!!!
Match #1: Hator & Cleopatra vs. Romy Rahvin & Glazia vs. Sisters of Pain (Jenna Love & Debbie Hate) (Three Way Dance elimination match, 1st round match)
-the two veteran teams forget about the newcomers in the early minutes of the match, letting the Sisters of Pain get plenty of rest time. This would turn out to bite Rahvin & Glazia on the butt as a fresh Jenna Love is able to put the Love Lock on Glazia and get her to submit.
Sisters of Pain eliminate Romy Rahvin & Glazia (11:24)
-the Sisters then make a classic rookie mistake and celebrate too soon, not realizing that both other teams must be eliminated to win the match. Hator & Cleopatra attack them from behind and it doesn't take long for Hator to use Hator's Curse on Jenna Love for the pinfall.
Hator & Cleopatra eliminate Sisters of Pain (0:53)
Winners; Hator & Cleopatra (12:17)
Match #2: Avengers (Miss Marvel & M) vs. Real Sweet Angel & Kissbabe vs. Nightmare (Scream & Spiderwoman) (Three Way Dance elimination match, 1st round match)
-very good action between these three teams as they seem very evenly matched. RSA & Kissbabe score the first elimination when RSA uses Rise & Fall Of An Angel on Miss Marvel and gets the pinfall.
Real Sweet Angel & Kissbabe eliminate Avengers (13:03)
-the match becomes more of a brawl when it's down to two teams in the match. This one ends when Nightmare uses Scream Machine on Real Sweet Angel after giving her a spike piledriver on the floor outside the ring.
Nightmare eliminate Real Sweet Angel & Kissbabe (4:22)
Winners: Nightmare (17:25)
As ring announcer Skip Morton introduced the teams for the next match, it was revealed that this was the match that would involve the "mystery team". When Morton announced them as...."the mystery team", fireworks began to erupt around the arena and a large banner unfurled over the entrace ramp. The banner read.....GWF! The crowd then erupted as GWF legends Supernova & Amazonia came out from the back
Match #3: Supernova & Amazonia vs. The Dark Dynasty (Miko & Sabine) vs. Portland Street Bomb Angels (Three Way Dance elimination match, 1st round)
-the mystery team caught both other teams off guard at first and it would lead to "the streak" continuing. The defending Las Reinas winners were taken out when Supernova was able to hit a Speed Of Light on Sister 13.
Supernova & Amazonia eliminate Portland Street Bomb Angels (10:07)
-The Dark Dynasty are able to adapt to wrestling just the GWF legends and they are able to pull off a big upset when they use Friendly Contact on Amazonia and send the GWF legends to the back with a loss.
Dark Dynasty elminate Supernova & Amazonia (5:08)
Winners: The Dark Dynasty (15:15)
Match #4: Valkyries (Hild & Sigurn) vs. Melloncollie Molly & Annie Social vs. Antagony (BioBoi & Glamour Queen) (Three Way Dance elimination match, 1st round match)
-another very evenly matched up meeting. The first elimination takes longer than in any of the first round matches. The Valkyries take out Antagony when they use the Valkyries Ride on Glamour Queen.
Valkyries eliminate Antagony (15:06)
-Molly & Annie show they will not go down easy as they give the Valkyries quite a battle. However, the Valkyries are able to prevail and are the only team to eliminate both opponents after Sigurn uses Death From Above to pin Annie Social.
Valkyries eliminate Melloncollie Mollie & Annie Social (11:06)
Winners: Valkyries (26:12)
Match #5: Hator & Cleopatra vs. Nightmare (Semi-final match)
-a very good semi-final match between these two teams. However, there can only be one winner and it is Hator & Cleopatra who move on to the finals when Cleopatra catches Scream with a spear off the ropes and pins her.
Winners: Hator & Cleopatra, by pinfall (8:20)
Match #6: The Dark Dynasty vs. Valkyries (Semi-final match)
-this match was even closer and both teams had several chances to put the other one away. The Valkyries are able to prevail though after Sigurn uses a springboard senton to pin Miko.
Winners: Valkyries, by pinfall (8:22)
Match #7: Hator & Cleopatra vs. Valkyries (Las Reinas de la Ring final match)
-The Valkyries were eliminated in the first round in 2006 and made it to the finals in 2007. They apparently meant for this to be their year as they attack Hator & Cleopatra as the other team is coming to the ring. A very disappointing match for a final round, but the Valkyries finally claim the Las Reinas crown after using Valkyrie's Ride on Cleopatra to win this one quickly.
Winners: Valkyries, by pinfall (0:57)
Las Reinas director Wendi Jo Hurd came down to the ring and presented trophies to the Valkyries and congratulated them on winning this year's tournament. Hator & Cleopatra were also presented trophies for making it to the final round. Ms. Hurd then brought out all the teams so they could congratulate the Valkyries on their win. There was a long round of applause for all the competitors and a last thank you to the fans for showing up.
(Congratulations to Kevin Wible for having the winning team this year! This marks his second time winning the Las Reinas and both times his teams have won is when we have had less than 16 teams. So maybe he'll stop complaining about a lack of teams.
Of course, I want to thank Kevin, Ray, Christian, Troy X, Lisa, Jim K, Aaron, Andrea, Jason J, Robin and Keith V for submitting teams this year. And a special thanks to the GWF for "lending" Supernova and Amazonia. There would be no Las Reinas without you all Until next Christmas, I once again thank you all!)
