Well, I’ve been saying it for weeks, and it happened. Kenny Omega is the NEW IWGP Heavyweight Champion!

There was a part of me that thought The Reign That Never Ends was going to continue because Gedo can't help himself but this was pretty much the outcome most fans were expecting. I didn't get to see the show live because I got booted from the live feed on NJ World's Fire app but even friends of mine who hate Omega and Okada said the match was fantastic. I'm gonna try to watch it before work.

It really was. Very cinematic, and I mean that in a good way. I'll need some time and distance from it, but it might be my favorite of their 4. Lots of great callbacks and some new stuff. Hell of a show all around. The Ishii/Suzuki build has been fantastic, too, by the way.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Yeah I would have been stunned if Okada had retained....seems the trend nowadays is break the record then drop it shortly after.

Their last match in 2013 was ridiculously good. EDIT: Won't be watching until after work, most likely. Got five minutes in and had to pause and NJ World on Fire booted me to the main menu. Too late to start over now, so it'll have to wait.

I was just mentioning that match to a newer fan that's not seen much pre-2016. So damned good. And almost exactly 5 years ago. Wondering if they'll have it at Kizuna Road again or maybe the G1 special.

Hoping for Kizuna Road so they can do that match at Korakuen Hall.

Well I watched the match when I woke up this morning and while I don't agree with the 'greatest match ever' hype (I never do when it comes to modern stuff) and I don't quite think it's the MOTY (Takeda vs. Abby from Endless Survivor is my current MOTY), they did a hell of a lot right and certainly delivered a modern classic. I thought fall one dragged on way too long. Like I know they had to go 60+ and you have to have one fall that goes long but that fall was just really boring to me. Falls two and three were very exciting and while I'm not a huge fan of Omega, I will admit that I enjoyed seeing him get his moment and for the people who were deeply invested in the Bullet Club angle, the payoff of Omega not only winning the belt, but having Kota in his corner and mending his friendship with the Bucks is a huge moment for those fans. I still think the Okada/Tanahashi match from last month was a better match but again, I don't have much of a connection to the Omega/Bucks/Cody/Ibushi angle, so it was never going to hit me on the same level as fans that did. Great match though, would recommend it to anyone.
