IWA - Quantum Flux - Frontier Fieldhouse - Chicago Ridge, IL (Card #1229)
* IWA Commissioner David Marquez, flanked by his associates Cary Silkin and Gabe Sapolsky, opened the show with a huge announcement. He said that plans are still ongoing regarding the talent but that the biggest event of the year, IWA Supercard of Honor 4, will take place at the legendary Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Quebec, Canada (Card #1250). The 46,500-seat stadium was the home of the Montreal Expos of Major League Baseball, the team that has since become the Washington Nationals, for nearly three decades and featured Hall of Fame players like Andre Dawson, Tim Raines and “Le Grand Orange” Rusty Staub. He said that rich history will now include the IWA and he hopes that fans from all around the world will take advantage of the ticket and travel packages available on the IWA website in order to attend. As the three men shook hands with each other there was a brief power outage before red and white lights shined over the ring. Marquez seemed perplexed by it but just as quickly as it came it went away with the lights coming back on again. At any rate, the biggest event of the year for the IWA is now set to take place as Supercard of Honor 4 heads north of the border to Montreal.

(Nick Jackson pinned Kyle O’Reilly – Meltzer Driver)
Match Highlights:
The highly anticipated Atomicos main event saw the Undisputed Era of Adam Cole (Bay-Bay!), Roderick Strong, Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly take on the Bullet Club consisting of “The Cleaner” Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) and “The Underboss” Terex. Going back to the time that Cole defected from the Bullet Club in Kings Road United right up until the recent KRU show at Budokan Hall in Tokyo, Japan (Card #1227), the heat between the two sides has been off the charts. All of that built up to this match which saw Undisputed Era recruit Strong who left World of Sport to sign with the IWA and join Cole, Strong and O’Reilly in the multi-promotional faction war. The pro-Undisputed Era crowd in Chicago was ready to explode as the two sides engaged in a pre-match stare down building up the heat. Omega got right in the face of Cole expressing anger over his former associate costing him the world title. Cole had made that unscheduled trip to Japan and interfered in the championship match taking away the prize that Omega had hoped to regain, costing him his rematch with LOW World Heavyweight champion AJ Styles.
Cole took it to Omega early popping the crowd and that set up a nice offensive stretch for the Undisputed Era. All four men took turns bouncing Omega around the ring like a ping pong ball as the Bucks and Terex pleaded for a tag. Omega finally escaped but not before nearly tapping out to Armageddon courtesy of O’Reilly. Cole looked pleased as his team was working like a well oiled machine. The Bucks, however, took things up a notch using their tag team skills and now it was Bullet Club gaining an edge. The 400-pound Terex also got into it crushing Strong with a sitdown splash at one point. In the end it was the tag team experience of the Bucks that helped lead Bullet Club to a huge win. With the rest of Undisputed Era taken out, they nailed O’Reilly with the Meltzer Driver, a springboard 450 spike Tombstone Piledriver, with Nick making the cover to score the pin. The crowd jeered the decision as Bullet Club took an unofficial 1-0 lead in what promises to be a long and epic rivalry.
History was made on the IWA On The Mat television broadcast as the newest member of the Pringle Dynasty, “A Double” Austin Aries, defeated The Mountie to win the LOW Tex-Arkana Television title. With Percy Pringle III in the corner for Aries and Sherri Martel on the opposite side for The Mountie, all hell was expected to break loose and it did. Aries got off to an incredible start blitzing The Mountie with the Heat Seeking Missile and the Brainbuster for near falls. A second Brainbuster saw Martel interfere by placing the foot of her man over the bottom rope to break up the pin. The Mountie came back using the Boston Crab and a picture perfect dropkick before jarring Aries with a piledriver. Aries recovered, however, and hit the 450 Splash but Martel distracted the referee preventing a pin. That got Pringle hot and he confronted her but Martel reared back and decked him! Big Duke, the bodyguard of Pringle, ran down to ringside but Martel decked him as well drawing a big pop from the crowd. The match built to a heated conclusion with Aries going for another 450 Splash prompting Martel to get involved again. This time, however, she was pulled off the ring apron by both Pringle and Duke allowing Aries to hit the spectacular move for the pin. Aries ended the reign of The Mountie at eight title defenses and he hopes to build a strong one of his own under the guidance of Pringle.
History was also made on the main card as Dem Boys, Mark & Jay Briscoe, became three-time IWA tag team champions by defeating Brian Kendrick and his mystery partner, the “Macho Man” Randy Savage, to win the titles. Kendrick’s regular tag team partner, Paul London, was injured by the Briscoes in their title victory in Revere, MA (Card #1219) forcing Kendrick to choose another partner in the title rematch. He could not have found a better one than Savage but unfortunately they could not retain the belts. The closing moments of the match saw the Briscoes isolate Kendrick preventing Savage from tagging in. Jay set up the win with back-to-back near falls with a release spinebuster and a devastating piledriver. After an exchange, they knocked Savage off the ring apron and lifted Kendrick up for the Doomsday Device with Jay making the cover for the pin. The Briscoes barely had time to celebrate their win when the Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli, with Princess Kimberlee) showed up looking for a title shot. IWA promoter David Marquez said that they would get their shot along with Kendrick and the returning Paul London in a Triple Threat Elimination Match on the next IWA card at the Empire Ballroom in Las Vegas, NV (Card #1239).
Main Card:
The “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson put the IWA Heavyweight title on the line in the semi-final taking on the challenge of “Die Hard” Eddie Edwards. The two men shook hands before the match bringing back something familiar to both men, the Code of Honor. Danielson was explosive on offense early hitting an airplane spin, a Dragon suplex and finally a dive to the outside shaking up the challenger. Edwards made a nice counter to gain control and hit the diving double knees and machine gun chops rattling the champion. Both men seemed to be on their “A” game until a mistake by Edwards led to a sudden finish. Edwards went for a corner charge but Danielson avoided it causing the challenger to crash shoulder first into the ring post and fall out of the ring. Edwards appeared to be seriously hurt and the alert Danielson took over going to The Final Countdown and locking on the Crossface Chickenwing. The punishing hold stretched out the already injured shoulder of Edwards who was forced to tap out. Danielson retained the belt via submission in what was a successful version two defense of the IWA Heavyweight title.
The Falls Count Anywhere tag team match pitting Drew Galloway and the “War King” Eddie Kingston against Jon Moxley and “Wrestling’s Worst Nightmare” Kevin Steen more than lived up to its advanced billing. The rivalry between former Shield partners Galloway and Moxley may never be over and adding Kingston and Steen to the mix has only fanned the flames even higher. The result was this out of control war which took place all over the Frontier Fieldhouse. A wild moment saw Steen take Galloway into the backstage area where he picked up a near fall by diving off a ladder with a high-angle senton bomb. Galloway was a bloody mess after Steen caught him with a wicked chair shot. Back inside the arena, Kingston took it to Moxley even going so far as to use the umbrella of an old lady in attendance by using the rain protector to deliver repeated shots to the groin. Moxley would get back at the “War King” when he crushed him with Moxicity in the aisle for a big near fall. The finish of a brutal battle saw Kingston and Steen battling in the crowd as Moxley set up a stack of folding chairs in the ring. That led to Moxley delivering a top rope Superplex on the bloody Galloway onto the chairs for the pin. It was a fitting end to the match and showed that all four men will go to any lengths to achieve victory.
In other action…
The “Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay pulled off a big upset on the last IWA card when he defeated former IWA Heavyweight champion “American Psycho” Lance Hoyt. An angry Hoyt, along with his manager Percy Pringle III, looked for a rematch with the former IWA J-Crown champion and Ospreay was eager to oblige. Ospreay showed no fear of the intimidating Hoyt using his speed to counter his power in the early going. Hoyt went on a strong offensive at the midway point and scored near falls on Ospreay with the Moonsault and the Texas Tornado, a fireman’s carry facebuster. Ospreay was resilient and came back with some near falls of his own including hitting the 630 Senton. When Ospreay went for the Essex Destroyer, a turnbuckle superkick, Pringle got involved distracting the referee. He dropped the PP3 Cup into the ring and Hoyt grabbed it smashing it against the head of Ospreay. That proved to be the turning point as a short time later Hoyt hit the Texas Tower Bomb for the pin.
The spectacular high-flying ACH out of Austin, TX, took on another equally promising young star in “American Thunder” Dicky Mayer of Pac 3. It was interesting to note that Mayer came to ringside without anyone from the group, including his manager Coach Flexo. That may have been a mistake as ACH was on his game and he kept Mayer on the defensive most of the way before scoring the pin with his Big Bang Attack, a Cradle DDT. It was learned afterward that ACH will be challenging the “Kentucky Gentleman” Chuck Taylor for the IWA J-Crown title on the next card in Las Vegas.
IWA On The Mat:
The television broadcast opened with a rematch as the team of DIY, Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano, took on “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce & James “Main Event” Morgan. This came about after Pearce and Morgan upset DIY in Revere, MA (Card #1219) with Morgan tapping out Ciampa. In a pre-match promo, a sullen Ciampa called on Gargano to “get focused” and said that DIY needed to do whatever it took to get revenge. The hard fought bout ended in wild fashion as Morgan was disqualified snake eyes style when he speared Gargano head first into the ring post. Pearce and Morgan then jumped Ciampa in the ring until Gargano recovered and rushed in with a chair. DIY quickly took out Pearce and then took turns bashing Morgan with chair shots to the head! It was a brutal assault that ended with Ciampa having a sickening smile on his face as Gargano looked on in disbelief at what he had just participated in. Morgan had to be assisted by paramedics and carried out on a stretcher while Ciampa continued smiling. Gargano looked to be in a trance as he watched Morgan being carried out. It was a bizarre scene and one that could have ramifications for DIY down the line.
Former IWA Heavyweight champion Jay Lethal, accompanied by the beautiful SoCal Val, took on “The Bad Boy” Joey Janela in a highly competitive bout. Val distracted Janela at one point causing him to nearly miss the ten count and later, after Lethal was knocked down at ringside, she kissed him for luck causing him to nearly miss the ten count so each man nearly lost on a count out due to Val. Janela impressively survived a double dose of the Koji Clutch and hit his Moonsault Double Stomp for a near fall. Another attempt at the Moonsault Double Stomp failed and led to a strong offensive from Lethal culminating in Lethal Injection for a snake eyes pin.
The popular pairing of Dasher Hatfield & Cheeseburger had their work cut out for them as they went up against Ringkampf (WALTER & Timothy Thatcher). Hatfield impressed early including catching WALTER with the Suicide Squeeze. Ringkampf homed in on Cheeseburger, though, and took him apart in a brutal display. What was impressive, however, was the resiliency shown by Cheeseburger as he survived both a lariat and Power Bomb by WALTER. He also refused to tap out as Thatcher twice locked him in the Fujiwara Armbar. The referee had to make the call and he forced a TKO stoppage as Thatcher wrenched the arm of Cheeseburger in the punishing hold a third time. Ringkampf won it but Cheeseburger got a standing ovation from the crowd for his efforts as Hatfield helped him to the back.
Backstage during the television broadcast, former IWA Heavyweight champion Diamond Dallas Page was interviewed by the lovely Veda Scott, a former SHIMMER star and a new member of the IWA broadcast team. DDP talked about growing up on the Jersey Shore and his long history under the LOW banner, including the many storied rivalries he has had. He said that the Diamond Cutter is a potent weapon and he hopes that the move will bring him championship gold once again. As Scott was about to ask another question, DDP was jumped from behind by none other than “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels! Scott ran off as Daniels ramped up his attack including sending DDP head first into a side door. He then prepared to deliver the Angel’s Wings on the concrete floor but IWA officials ran in and prevented that. DDP was helped up to his feet and fortunately not injured as Daniels fled the scene. It was later learned that Daniels, who is not under an IWA Contract, requested a match with DDP which has been signed to take place on the next IWA card in Las Vegas.
Injury Report:
* James “Main Event” Morgan was diagnosed with a severe concussion as a result of the chair assault by DIY. There is no timetable set for his return but the doctor who examined him indicated that it may be best for him to retire. Adam Pearce was thoroughly disgusted after hearing the news and citing “unsafe working conditions” he asked for and was granted his release from the IWA following the show.
