Mulligan: "It's like I said last week, Bill, I'm a loner. It's time I got back to that. So I thought I needed a more appropriate song. Do you like it?"(Fans cheer.) Apter: "What was it like behind the scenes for the Four Horsemen?" Mulligan:(Pauses.)"I think there was some jealousy because I was TV Champ, and the others didn't have belts. I think there was some friction when 'Cowboy' Bob Orton, Tracy Smothers & Sam Houston lost in the Six-Man Tag Team Quarter-Finals. I know there was friction when Tracy & Sam lost their Confederate States Tag Team Title Match with Tommy & Doug Gilbert. Sam's a talented young kid. He's got a lot of potential, but Tracy doesn't remember what it was like to be young & inexperienced. He thinks his (bleep) doesn't stink."(At that point, Terry Gordy walks out with a microphone.) Dillon & Sam Houston in a Non-Title Match: "Rebel Rebel" by David Bowie plays as Cappetta introduces Smothers to a mix of cheers & boos after what was said earlier on Bill Apter's "Hot Seat". "Takin' care Of Business" by Bachman-Turner Overdrive plays as Cappetta introduces Atlas to cheers, but Smothers attacks Atlas before Cappetta finishes the introduction! Smothers was in control early, but Atlas made a comeback. He threw Smothers out of the ring for a top rope crossbody block to the floor. Atlas threw Smothers in the ring for PRESS SLAM AND SPLASH and the win. Atlas beats 3 of the former Four Horsemen 3 weeks in a row! Houston & Dillon enter the ring to check on Smothers, but he pushes Dillon & punches Houston as fans boo. Smothers leaves the ring and makes an "X" with his arms to symbolize the Southern Cross of the Rebel Flag--just like the Freebirds have done. Thatcher: "What does this mean? What's Tracy Smothers going to do next?" Cornette: "I don't know, but he's better off without dead weight like Houston." MATCH 7: Rebel Wrestling World Champion Bruiser Brody & "Rowdy" Roddy Piper vs. "Macho Man" Randy Savage with "Miss Madness" Nora Greenwald & Rebel Wrestling Jr. Heavyweight Champion "King Of Wrestling" Bobby Shane with Sir Oliver Humperdink: Cappetta announces that the referee in charge of the action is Mr. Bill Alfonso. fans boo as Fonzie enters the ring blowing his whistle. "Princes Of The Universe" plays as Cappetta introduces Shane to boos. The boos get louder when "Pomp And Circumstance" plays as Cappetta introduces Savage. The boos turn to cheers when the bagpipes of "The Green Hills Of Tyrol" plays as Cappetta introduces Piper. The cheers get louder when "Saturday Night Special" by Lynyrd Skynyrd plays as Cappetta introduces Brody. Savage & Shane got the better of Brody early on with Fonzie fast-counting several near-falls. Brody was busted open when Savage hit TOP ROPE ELBOW DROP. Fonzie jumped on top of Brody's legs to hold them down while making his count. Piper entered the ring and threw Fonzie over the top rope to the floor! Savage got in Piper's face, and Piper pushed Savage to the mat. Brody recovered and hit JUMPING KNEEDROP as a new ref entered the ring, but Savage kicked out at 2. Brody tagged Piper who lit into Savage! Savage was able to tag Shane, but he took a beating from Piper. Piper locked on SLEEPER, and Shane passed out. Piper beats the Jr. Heavyweight Champ with his own move! Fonzie gets to his feet as "Back In Black" by AC/DC plays. Commissioner Charlie Cox walks out with a mic and says, "Bill Alfonso, I can't believe that you tried to help Savage pin Brody. You're suspended until after Gateway To Glory! Roddy Piper, you beat Bobby Shane with his own finisher so you've got a Jr. Heavyweight Title shot in St. Louis." WINNER: Bruiser Brody--5 fatigues & Roddy Piper--0 fatigue beat Randy Savage--1 fatigue & Bobby Shane--2 fatigues when Piper submitted Shane with SLEEPER Cornette: "I can't believe Piper gets rewarded after the way he manhandled Fonzie. I can't believe Cox suspended Fonzie either. Cox is a biased Commissioner." Thatcher: "Fonzie deserves everything he got. You fans deserve next week's big show in Memphis. The Gilberts didn't beat anybody for these belts. They just showed up with 'em. We beat 3 teams to win the Young Guns Tag Team Tournament, and then we beat the Gilberts to win these bad boys." Mark: "We want these belts to mean something so we're not limiting it to just Southern teams. We're opening it up to all teams, and we want our first title defense to be against a team that we think should've been in Young Guns, but they were competing overseas at the time." Cappetta:(Mark hands him the mic.)"Their opponents, from Samoa at a total combined weight of 578 lbs., Samu & Alofa, the Samoan Island Tribe!"("Welcome To The Jungle" by Guns N' Roses plays as the Samoans come out to cheers. MATCH 1: CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP Briscoe Brothers(Jay & Mark Briscoe)(C.S.A. Tag Team Champions) vs. Samoan Island Tribe(Samu & Alofa): The Briscoes double-teamed Samu until they busted him open with SPIKE JAY DRILLER. He was able to tag Alofa, and it took 2 DOOMSDAY DEVICES to put him away. Dem Boys climbed the turnbuckles to celebrate, but Tommy & Doug Gilbert ran into the ring and pushed the Briscoes off the turnbuckles and through ringside tables! Then they made an "X" with their arms to symbolize the Southern Cross of the Rebel Flag--just like Tracy Smothers did last week and Fabulous Freebirds have done in the past. MATCH 2: Ida Mae Martinez vs. Penny Banner: "Beautiful Girl" by Van Halen plays as Cappetta introduces the debuting Banner to boos. "Strut" by Sheena Easton plays as Cappetta introduces the debuting Martinez to cheers. Banner dominated the match. She got 1-count with spinning neckbreaker, 2-counts with 2 SMALL CRADLES, and the 3-count with SUNSET FLIP. Thatcher: "Penny Banner wins in dominating fashion." He hands the mic to Johnny who says, "We don't care who you are. If there's two men in the back who think they're tough enough to step in the ring with us, then come on down!". He hands the mic to Cappetta when "Takin' Care Of Business" by Bachman-Turner Overdrive plays to cheers, and TV Champ Tony Atlas walks out with a mic. He says, "I was sitting in the back talking to a friend of mine from my home state of Virginia when we heard your challenge.". "Born To Be Wild" by Steppenwolf plays to cheers as Magnum T.A. walks out with a mic and says, "We were joking that we're both T.A. from VA so I guess you can call us...The T.A.-Team!". They walk to the ring.
MATCH 3: The T.A.-Team(Rebel Wrestling Television Champion "Mr. USA" Tony Atlas & Magnum T.A.) vs. Johnny Valentine & Greg "The Hammer" Valentine: Cappetta introduces both teams to cheers as the bell rings. This was a back-and-forth match between four evenly matched wrestlers. Atlas had Johnny locked in a crushing full nelson when Greg tried to interfere. Atlas smashed their heads together with Noggin Knocker that drew blood on Johnny. Atlas hit PRESS SLAM AND SPLASH on Johnny for the 1-2-3. Thatcher: "What a win for The T.A.-Team over the Valentines." Cornette: "I pity the fool who steps in the ring with The T.A.-Team." "Desperado" by The Eagles plays as Cappetta introduces Mulligan to cheers. The referee puts brass knuckles on their hands and calls for the bell to start the match. This was a knock-down drag-out fight between the two big men. It wasn't long before they were both bleeding profusely. Mulligan knocked out Gordy with a lariat for the win. Gilbert & Rich helped Gordy to the back. Thatcher: "Blackjack Mulligan wins the Brass Knuckles Match." Cornette: "I need to get ready for my match. Maybe I'll knock out April Hunter!" Michaels & Marty Jannetty)(World Tag Team Champions) & April Hunter vs. Midnight Express("Loverboy" Dennis Condrey & "Ravishing" Randy Rose) & Jim Cornette in a MIXED TAG TEAM MATCH: "On The Dark Side" by John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band plays as Cappetta introduces the Midnights & Cornette to boos. The boos turn to cheers when "Girls,Girls,Girls' by Motley Crue plays as Cappetta introduces the Glam Rockers. "Cherry Pie" by Warrant plays as Cappetta introduces the stunning April Hunter to cheers. She wants a piece of Cornette who hides behind the Midnights. The Rockers have to hold her back to keep her from going after him. The Rockers dominated Rose to start the match. He backed into the corner and tagged Cornette. That meant April had to enter the ring too! Cornette dropped to his knees and pleaded with April, but she picked him up for a powerslam, a sidewalk slam & two powerbombs. She covered Cornette, but he kissed her to make her get of of him! They both tagged out, and the Midnights double-teamed Michaels. They hit ROCKET LAUNCHER for a 2-count. Michaels was bleeding when the Midnights quickly hit DOUBLE GOOZLE. Condrey covered Michaels for the 3-count to regain the World Tag Titles. NON-TELEVISED OPENING MATCH Samoan Island Tribe(Samu & Alofa) vs. Heartbreak Express("Superstar" Sean Davis & "Fabulous" Phil Davis)with "Exotic" Adrian Street, Miss Linda & Missing Link: This was a back-and-forth match until Alofa hit 2 consecutive top rope crossbody blocks to the floor on Sean. Alofa then hit SAMOAN DROP for the win while Samu stopped Phil from making the save. WINNER: Samoan Island Tribe(Samu--0 fatigue & Alofa--0 fatigue) beat Heartbreak Express(Sean Davis--2 fatigues & Phil Davis--0 fatigue) when Alofa pinned Sean with SAMOAN DROP
SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL(HOUR 1) The show opens with a wild brawl in the backstage area between Honor Club & Fabulous Freebirds! They brawl all over the locker room, but Bryan Danielson & Terry Gordy fight their way into the parking lot...where World Champion Bruiser Brody & Randy Savage are already fighting! Commissioner Charlie Cox & security personnel come out to break it up. Les Thatcher: "Brody & Savage are beating the Hell out of each other! So are Danielson & Gordy who left their teammates fighting in the locker room!" Jim Cornette: "Security's pulling them apart. Let's hear what Cox has to say to them." Cox: "I just broke up the backstage brawl between Freebirds & Generation Next. They'll have a tag team match tonight, but so will the four of you. The Main Event will be Brody & Danielson vs. Savage & Gordy. No one will be allowed at ringside, and the Special Guest Referee will be 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper!". Thatcher: "What a Main Event that's going to be with 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper as referee." Cornette: "We kick off the action with former partners. Let's go to Gary Michael Cappetta in the ring."
MATCH 1: "Modern Day Cowboy" Sam Houston with J.J. Dillon vs. "The Rebel" Tracy Smothers with Tommy Gilbert & "Dangerous" Doug Gilbert: "Modern Day Cowboy" by Tesla plays as Cappetta introduces Houston to cheers, but Smothers storms the ring and smashes Houston into the turnbuckle post outside the ring! Smothers beat down Houston for 2 near-falls, but then Houston made a comeback and got 2 near-falls. Smothers made a comeback and hit JAWJACKER for a 2-count and a top rope clothesline that drew blood. He then hit a top rope crossbody block for the 1-2-3. "Rebel Rebel" by David Bowie played as Cappetta announced Smothers as the winner. Smothers took the mic out of Cappetta's hand and said, "Cut the damn music! I was the best wrestler in the Four Horsemen, and I'll prove it at Gateway To Glory because I challenge my other former teammates Blackjack Mulligan & 'Cowboy' Bob Orton to a Triple Threat Match!" MATCH 2: T & A(Tina Moretti & April Hunter) vs. Death Haze("Death Rey" Sara Del Rey & Daizee Haze): "Spirit In The Sky" by Norman Greenbaum plays as Cappetta introduces Haze to boos. "Kiss Me Deadly" by Lita Ford plays as Cappetta introduces Del Rey to boos. The boos turn to cheers when "Cherry Pie" by Warrant plays as Cappetta introduces April. "Unskinny Bop" by Poison plays as Cappetta introduces April's T & A partner Tina to cheers: Death haze brutalized Moretti. Del Rey drew blood with Royal Butterfly Lock, and Haze made the bleeding worse. Moretti was able to tag Hunter who went on the attack, but Haze took over and stunned Hunter with missile dropkick for the win. Can-Am Glam Rockers came out and helped T & A to the back, but a fan at ringside stopped them and handed them a business card. They recognize the fan as reality TV star Jonny Fairplay! Thatcher: "What kind of business does Jonny Fairplay want with Glam Rockers and T & A?" Cornette: "I don't know, but I don't trust him. He reminds me of a young me." MATCH 3: Pretty Boy Playboys("Playboy" Buddy Rose & "Pretty Boy" Larry Sharpe) & "Sexy" Sherri Martel vs. Soul Patrol("Birdman" Koko B. Ware & D'Lo Brown) & Jazz in a MIXED TAG TEAM MATCH: "Bad Girls" by Donna Summer plays as Cappetta introduces Jazz to cheers. "Brick House" by The Commodores plays as Cappetta introduces Soul Patrol to cheers. "Mississippi Queen" by Mountain plays as Cappetta introduces Sherri to cheers. "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred plays as Cappetta introduces PBP to cheers. They all shake hands as the bell rings to start the match which was dominated by Soul Patrol & Jazz. Jazz busted Sherri open with BITCH CLAMP and stayed on the attack to make the bleeding worse. Jazz finally pinned Sherri with fisherman's buster. Jazz started putting the boots to the beaten Sherri, but Soul Patrol pulled Jazz away. Rose & Sharpe got Sherri out of the ring as Jazz shoved Ware & Brown to the mat! Jazz flipped off Soul Patrol and left the ring to boos. Then she flipped off the fans too! Thatcher: "What's got into Jazz? She's flipped out!" Cornette: "She doesn't need Soul Patrol. She could be our first Women's Champion." WINNER: Soul Patrol(Koko B. "The Man On The Silver Mountain" by rainbow plays as The Grappler comes out to boos. He takes Cappetta's microphone and says, "I'm the first TV Champ! I even beat Tony Atlas! I want a title shot!". "Back In Black" by AC/DC plays as Commissioner Charlie Cox comes out with a mic and says, "Grappler, you'll get a title shot...if you can beat the man who beat you for the TV Title". "Born To Be Wild" by Steppenwolf plays as Magnum T.A. comes out to cheers. He's accompanied by his T.A.-Team partner & TV Champion Tony Atlas.
MATCH 4: Magnum T.A. with Rebel Wrestling Television Champion "Mr. USA" Tony Atlas vs. The Grappler: Cappetta introduces Grappler to boos & Magnum to cheers. Grappler got 2 near-falls, but Magnum made a comeback with BELLY TO BELLY SUPLEX for the win. Magnum takes the mic and says, "Tony, we're good friends and I don't want to fight you for the TV Title. So why don't we have a tag team match at Gateway To Glory?". Atlas takes the mic and says, "Sounds good. I'll even put the TV Title on the line. Whoever gets the winning fall gets the belt.". "Tuff Enuff" by Fabulous Thunderbirds plays as the rat Pack("Black Glove" Ted DiBiase, "Dr. Death" Steve Williams, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan & "Cowboy" Bob Orton)come out to cheers. Orton has a mic and says, "First of all, I have something to say to tracy Smothers. I talked to Blackjack Mulligan, and we accept your challenge for a Triple Threat Match." He hands the mic to DiBiase who says, "Doc & I accept the challenge of The T.A.-Team.". He hands the mic to Doc who says, "That TV Title's coming to the Rat Pack.". He hands the mic to Duggan who says, "You're going down, tough guys. HOOOO!". Thatcher: "Another great match added for gateway To Glory." The Grappler appears on the video screen above the entrance. The Masked Superstars stand behind him. he says, "I'm disbanding the Masked Maniacs.". then he turns and attacks Masked Superstar! They fight until security separates them. MSII shakes his head and walks away.
BILL APTER'S "HOT SEAT" Apter: "Please welcome, my guests tonight, Johnny Valentine & Greg "The Hammer" Valentine!)"The Fire Down Below" by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band plays as the Valentines come out to cheers.)Gentlemen, why did you decide to help Roddy Piper battle the Hart Foundation?" Greg: "When I battled Piper, it was always one-on-one. It took 3 of Jimmy Hart's men to beat Piper down. So I called up my father and asked him if he'd like to come to Rebel Wrestling with me and crush some skulls. If anyone knows anything about SKULLCRUSHERS, it's him." Apter: "Johnny, you came out of retirement to help your son & Piper, but you lost to King Kong Bundy. Do you think that you should've stayed retired?" Johnny: "Wrestlers never retire, Bill. They just go away for awhile, but I'm back now! That fat tub of lard got the best of me once, but it won't happen again!"(Jimmy Hart, Rick Rude & King Kong Bundy come out to interrupt.) Hart: "Billy, baby, we have a bone to pick with you. Your wrestling magazine's Top ten rankings are biased against my Hart Foundation. maybe Bundy should squash you like he did to this old fossil!"(Rude & Bundy grab Apter, but Greg punches Rude while Johnny decks Bundy.) Johnny: "You boys are real tough picking on Bill Apter. You want a fight? We're your huckleberries!" Greg: "We challenge you to a Tag team Elimination Match next week!" Hart: "You're on! It'll be a clean sweep for the Hart Foundation, baby! Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha!"
MATCH 5: Generation Next(Austin Aries & Roderick Strong)with Honor Club partner "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson vs. Fabulous Freebirds("Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert & "Wildfire" Tommy Rich)with rebel Wrestling Six-Man Tag Team Champion partner Terry "Bamm Bamm" Gordy: "Badstreet, U.S.A." plays as Cappetta introduces Freebirds to boos. "Youth Gone Wild" by Skid Row plays as Cappetta introduces Gen Next to cheers. This was a back-and-forth match with several near-falls on both sides. Rich drew blood on Strong with WILDFIRE SLEEPER, and Aries made Gilbert bleed with 450 SPLASH. Aries then made Gilbert tap out to LAST CHANCERY. Danielson joined his partners in the ring for a celebratory "Believe In Honor" triple fist bump followed by a triple "Too Sweet" Honor Club hand gesture. Thatcher: "Gen Next gets a big win 1 week before Honor Club's Six-Man Tag Team Title Match." Cornette: "The Freebirds could be in trouble next Sunday at Gateway To Glory." MATCH 6: "Exotic" Adrian Street with Beauty & The Beast partner Dan "The Beast" Severn, Miss Linda & Missing Link vs. "Prince Of Darkness" Kevin Sullivan with Jimmy Jacobs & Lord Zoltan in a COFFIN MATCH: "Sympathy For The Devil" by Jonathon Round plays as Cappetta introduces the corpse-painted Sullivan & his Disciples Of Anarchy to boos. Sullivan takes the snake off of his shoulders and puts it on Zoltan's shoulders. "Run Runaway" by Slade plays as Cappetta introduces the glitter make-up wearing Street & members of his Exotic Entourage to cheers. Street skips to the ring, but he stops when he sees the coffin at ringside. he takes the feather boa off of his shoulders and puts it on Severn's shoulders. The long-awaited one-on-one match between the former Freakshow partners is finally here! This was a back-and-forth match where both men escaped being put in the coffin several times. Street drew first blood when he locked Sullivan in a cobra clutch on the coffin, and Linda ordered Link to hit Sullivan with a chair. Sullivan later busted open Street by smashing his head into the coffin. The bloody combatants beat each other senseless. The turning point came when Sullivan jumped off the top rope...right into Street's raised boot! Street threw Sullivan out of the ring. Severn & Link held Jacobs & Zoltan at bay while Street bodyslammed Sullivan into the coffin and closed the lid to win the match as fans cheered. Thatcher: "Adrian Street closes the lid on his feud with Kevin Sullivan." Cornette: "Now Beauty & The Beast can focus all their attention on their pay-per-view World Tag Team Title Match against my Midnight Express at Gateway To Glory." WINNER: Adrian Street--6 fatigues beat Kevin Sullivan--8 fatigues in a Coffin Match
MATCH 7: Rebel Wrestling World Champion Bruiser Brody & "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson vs. "Macho Man" Randy Savage & Terry "Bamm Bamm" Gordy with "Rowdy" Roddy Piper as GUEST REFEREE: "Badstreet, U.S.A." plays as Cappetta introduces Gordy to boos. "Pomp And Circumstance" plays as Cappetta introduces Savage to boos. The boos turn to cheers when "The Final Countdown" by Europe plays as Cappetta introduces Danielson. "Saturday Night Special" by Lynyrd Skynyrd plays as Cappetta introduces Brody to cheers. This was a back-and-forth match. Gordy made Danielson bleed with ORIENTAL SPIKE, and Savage busted open Brody with running knee to back that sent Brody into the ringpost! Savage jumped off the top rope with a flying shoulder tackle that knocked out Guest Referee piper for 16 moves. Piper eventually recovered and chose not to disqualify Savage. Piper looked in the camera and said, "I ain't Fonzie! I'm gonna let 'em fight!". Danielson locked Savage in CATTLE MUTILATION. Gordy tried to make the save. but Danielson smashed their heads together with Noggin Knocker. Danielson covered Savage as Piper counted 1-2-3.
