Silver King, Lucha Libre Legend And Former WCW Star, Has Died Silver King, the lucha libre legend and former WCW star known for his many appearances on Monday Nitro during the ’90s, passed away due to complications from his match with Juventud Guerrera in London on Saturday. He was 51 years old. Per a video circulating on social media that we won’t be sharing here, King hit the ropes and connected with a flying clothesline on Guerrera. He got on all fours to make the cover, but when Guerrera kicked out, Silver King’s body appeared to shut down completely. CPR was administered in the ring and the remainder of the show was canceled. Silver King — real name César Cuauhtémoc González Barrón — was the son of lucha legend Dr. Wagner and the brother of Dr. Wagner Jr., and had been competing since 1985. While he’d taken a lighter schedule in recent years to concentrate on promoting, the King competed in promotions around the world including from AAA, UWA, and CMLL in Mexico to All Japan Pro Wrestling and, of course, World Championship Wrestling. He’s also notable for his role as Black Tiger III, the third incarnation of the Black Tiger character, and for playing the role of Ramses, the golden masked luchador from the 2005 Jack Black film Nacho Libre. So weird and sad that there's been a few Lucha wrestlers dying in the ring in the past handful of years.

Her passing is weird for me. Earlier today I was talking to a coworker about verified accounts on Twitter and how I have had a few follow me. One I was thinking of was Ashley. Because she was the first one and it was out of the blue. Needless to say it made my day when she did. Then to hear tbis tonight. Life can be strange.

“We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro,” the WWE said in a statement. “She performed in WWE from 2005-2008 and was beloved by her fellow Superstars and fans around the world. WWE offers its condolences to Ashley’s family and friends.”
Massaro’s career took off after she won the “2005 Raw Diva Search,” and she won the WWE Women’s Championship against Melina at Wrestlemania 23 in 2007. She also briefly competed on “Survivor: China” in 2007, though was voted off in the second episode.
Massaro was part of a lawsuit filed by 60 former professional wrestlers against the WWE claiming that the company failed to protect them from repeated head trauma, which resulted in long-term brain damage, according to NBC News. That lawsuit was dismissed last year after a judge determined that several claims were either frivolous or that the statute of limitations had expired, per the report.
Massaro also alleged in the lawsuit that she was sexually assaulted on a WWE trip to an American military base in Kuwait in 2006. She said she was examined by a company doctor after returning from the trip, who then reported the incident to WWE executives. Those executives, she said, later met with her “to apologize for their negligence, but [they] persuaded her that it would be best not to report it to appropriate authorities,” according to the Boston Globe.
--------------------------------------
World Wrestling Entertainment/WWE Diva Search (2005) Massaro initially found out about World Wrestling Entertainment's (WWE) 2005 Raw Diva Search when she met a WWE casting director during a swimsuit pageant. After beating the seven other chosen finalists, Massaro was declared the winner on the episode of Raw which aired on Monday, August 15, 2005. Her winnings included $250,000 and a one-year contract with WWE.
Personal life Massaro grew up in Babylon, New York, where her brother and father competed in amateur wrestling. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication with a minor in Business from the State University of New York at Albany.
Massaro had one daughter, Alexa, who was born on July 23, 2000. When her daughter became sick in mid-2008, Massaro asked for an early release from WWE to care for her.
She had several tattoos, including a black and pink nautical star on the back of both of her elbows; a pink and red dragon surrounding kanji lettering that translates to 'Trust No One' going down the right side of her torso;[54] symbols on the small of her lower back; and a butterfly on her right hip. She also had several piercings, including a 'Monroe' (a piercing near the upper lip that resembles a beauty mark) and 'Snakebites' (a piercing on each side of the lower lip).
