This was from Joint Promotions on the World of Sport. Shirley Crabtree was a second generation star who transitioned from a career in Rugby into the realms of pro wres. The Big Daddy gimmick was a take off of the movie character in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. At the height of his popularity it wouldn't be a stretch to label Big Daddy Crabtree a 'mainstream star' in the UK. He was even listed in the Guiness Book of Records touting his 64 inch chest. Giant Haystacks was a formidable presence on the British wrestling scene. This is a good sampling of the 'quality' of their legendary and lucrative program. This was from New Japan. From the mid 70's into the 90's Canek was a huge star in Mexico under the UWA banner. The 'Canek' name was adopted in tribute to the Mayan revolutionary Jacinto Canek who was famous for rebellion against Spanish colonization. This 'man of the people/pride in his ethnic heritage' gimmick connected strong at the box office under a booking formula where he was constantly programed against big name international stars (ie. foreigners). A working arrangement with New Japan opened the doors for Canek to find success as a touring attraction in matches like the one above. He was definitely a lucha legend.
