s noted on Thursday, via Sports Illustrated, wrestling veteran Dean Malenko quit WWE after working behind-the-scenes since retiring from in-ring action in 2001. In an update, PWInsider reports that Malenko may have been released by WWE. It was noted that there has been a huge influx of new producers brought into the company over the past few months with many of the older producers being cycled on and off the road. There had been a fear among some that this was the beginning of the old guard being replaced. As we’ve noted, WWE has hired several familiar faces to work as producers this year – WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett, Shane Helms, Shawn Daivari, Chris Parks (Abyss) and Sonjay Dutt. Wrestling veteran Dean Malenko will make his first post-WWE appearance at the Starrcast II convention in Las Vegas next month. As noted, Malenko left WWE this week after working behind-the-scenes with the company since retiring from the ring in 2001. It was originally reported that he quit the company, but another report said he was let go. There was speculation on Malenko ending up with All Elite Wrestling and the Starrcast appearance will fuel those rumors due to the AEW – Starrcast relationship. Details on Malenko’s appearance can be found in the tweet below:
