That Reddit post puts it into perspective: there's way too many groups. I remember in like 2006-2007 when New Japan decided to reshuffle the whole roster into new factions and that doesn't seem as excessive as AEW having thirteen groups, some of which have no real purpose or direction, they're just there because we gotta get people on TV instead of focusing on a core few people and building around them. But it's what happens when you have a bloated roster and the booker wants to make everyone happy and get them onto TV every week. Meltzer, as much as I think he gets wrong about modern wrestling, talked about the issues with their booking and he's right about every single thing he says here...and he's essentially an AEW shill. I agree there are too many factions in AEW. There has to be some balance between too many and basically none in WWE.

They could cut half the factions and still be doing just fine.

Last night felt like a total nothing show outside of the Blood and Guts announcement and the most predictable turn ever in the main event. I did like Darby vs. JD Drake, but the rest of the show felt very thrown together. Next week's show sounds like the show they should have ran last night, especially given what the other show was doing. It feels like they've lost all the momentum they had in December and any momentum they'd have had coming out of the PPV is pretty much gone too. I'm excited to see an actual War Games style match on 5/5 (two rings, a cage that has a roof so people don't get to do the stupid dive spot or the stupid superplex spot and this will actually have blood) but this feels like a train coming to a screeching halt which is weird because it's the same feeling I had this time a year ago as well.

Really wasn't feeling last night's show. The Bucks/Death Triangle match was great...and then it kept going. And going. And going. The Bucks' style is more conducive to dumb 12 minute matches, not 25 minute epics. I liked the Jericho/Dax match the most of anything on the show. Jade/Red Velvet probably went a bit too long. The Hangman Page promo was lame and didn't really serve any purpose. Statlander match was not good, hopefully they put her with QT or Dustin because she's still as rough as she was before the injury and given how many close calls she had on AEW TV and PPV pre-injury, that's NOT a good thing. The Bucks/Kenny/Biscuits and Guns/Callis promo was some of the most tryhard bullshit I've ever seen in my life. "We're heels so we're gonna say 'damn' all the time now! We're just like DX!" Give me a friggin' break. It's another five man heel faction at the top...just like the Inner Circle was and just like the Pinnacle is now. Having factions just to get as many people on TV as you can is lazy booking. Figure out your core group of stars and build around them. The Taz/Christian angle reeked of the Taz/Darby Allin angle and I really don't like the idea of rehashing angles with the same group over and over like this. I respect Matt Hardy for doing the match he did given everything that happened in his life over the last week or so, but the match wasn't good and was another clusterf*ck for the sake of getting a ton of people on TV. They need to stop doing this.
To me, the highlight was Anthony Ogogo. I love the idea that an Olympic level boxer wins off of the first punch he throws. It's obvious he's being built for Cody and I'm sure that match will be good whenever it does eventually end up happening. Hopefully they don't drop this angle for no reason after one match like they do with basically all the others.
I've also noticed that the taped shows are the ones with all the big matches happening, because last night had a lot of stuff going down and it was taped and next week feels kind of like a nothing show. They really need to sort the creative out and soon. I'm still interested in Blood and Guts because I think this is the one promotion that can actually pull off a good War Games match in the modern era but I'm also half-terrified that they're going to prove me wrong.
They did a hell of a number unopposed, though. Hopefully it stays that high and they can build on it.

Every once in awhile I’ll flip on AEW live and when I do someone is always getting beat up outside the ring. Last week it was Cody and Dustin getting bloody from QT Marshall and his buddies. This week it was Christian. Few weeks ago it was Matt Hardy. For a fed full of guys fighting outside of the ring all the time you would think they would have had some disqualification endings every once in awhile.
