COTG 50 edition CELEBRATION! NEED YOUR FEEDBACK!

Hey everyone!

Consider this a mini "Inside Tom's Brain."

2020 is a BIG year for a lot of reasons for FG but to me it's personal and meaningful. I will be releasing the 50th game edition for CotG, a milestone that almost seems incredible to ponder. How many other games have done that?

I want it to be special, I'm very proud of our accomplishments and want to celebrate with my great friends and loyal promoters.

But first, I have started writing 2136 and it will be as wild and unpredictable as ever! That's coming as always in July. 2136 will NOT be a new jumping on point as previously "announced." That's just too bumpy, discontinuous, awkward to write and release in a meaningful way. So watch for 2136 to be another amazing chapter in the CotG story and with Godsend seeking to totally take over.

I want to celebrate 50 editions of CotG by releasing a new starter set that is a BEST OF COTG for 50 game editions. The kind of starter set we will offer to new fans who have never partaken of the madness but have KNOWN about us for years! A starter set that stands alone and if a new player likes it then he/she can start anywhere they like, 2087 B&W, 2087 color, 2119, or 2125. I want to produce a celebratory starter set that is affordable (my goal is under $20) and fun and gives a glimpse of what CotG is all about. I am currently looking at 16 game cards, handbook, and another surprise or two for good measure! A game I can give to people and say "Here's what my game is all about. I love it and hope you do too."

This new starter set will be released sometime in 2020 when it's done. I don't want to rush it. I want it to be just right.

The set will contain many cards that have already been released, no need to change what works! Color versions of Star Warrior, Thantos, Wolf, you can count on it! But after that I am filling in the rest focusing mainly on what is historically important and also what looks cool to a newcomer.

I also want this starter set to be a something a loyal promoter would want to own as a collectible and perhaps to buy a few and share with friends and family that have never taken the plunge!

That's where this thread comes in. Please let me know FIVE characters (specific cards and specific years is helpful) that you think should be in a BEST OF COTG. This will help me make some decisions. I have around half the cards I figure that I want to include, but am open to suggestions. Keep in mind it's that VAST middle range of game editions 2092-2125 that need to have some inclusion. Some characters will get NEW CARD ART and perhaps minor changes on game stats. I will be creating ONE NEW CHARACTER to add to this set and even though it's a BEST OF it will still have a story attached to it. Nothing major but you know as well as I do that EVERYTHING in the COTG universe requires some explanation! I already have that cooked up.

While you're at it: 5 male characters and 2 females characters. See, that's 6 cards already: SW, Thantos, Wolf, New Character, 2 females. That leaves only ten more and we could have some amazing debates of who they should be!

I'll share more with you as I go along. It's VERY EARLY in the process but I want to get your views about which wrestlers/cards you think should be included. Please also keep in mind that WE CAN'T PLEASE EVERYONE. Having 16 cards in a BEST OF set is like picking GREATEST HITS on an album by a band. Everyone will disagree about some of the selections. You may not agree with all my selections but you can be sure this project is a LABOR OF LOVE for me and my goal is to make it as GREAT as it can be and I hope you support the effort.

Anyway enough babbling! Please share your top five picks right here on this board in this thread and I will keep tabulations and take them into account when I finalize the 16.

5 I would like to suggest, but there are many great possibilities:

1. Spike (he has a history of bringing in new promoters with the PWI add)

2-3. Monolith and Aethran Overmaster (the two most dominant wrestlers from the current era in my COTG fed that I don't post results for)

4. Pegasus (the most dominant wrestler in my fed's middle era that Tom said he is looking to have included in this set)

5 Matador of M83 (just a personal favorite, I have to vote for him)


for the women:

1. Amazonia (pair with Wolf who has been announced as one of the cards)

2. Thrash (another wrestler active during the time period looking to have some inclusion, can pair with another Gladiator and feud them with Wolf and Amazonia)

1. Spike 2092 (like Vegas said and he's just awesome)
2. Pegasus 2102 (excellent "anti-hero" from the time period Tom is looking for)
3. Mandrill 2105(Villian after Thantos...assuming Chaos is already included)
4. Thunder 2112 (Got to have a couple of Gladiators!)
5. New Order 2094 (Can I cheat and have a tag-team? Favorite non-Gladiator team)
Women:
1. Amazonia (the OG)
2. Phantasy 2116

I think some characters that showcase the different card mechanics whilst being simple. So a wrestler with a DQ finisher. Seeing as I think Bishop He’ll was the first to do this it would be nice to showcase him but he doesn’t fit that period mentioned. Also a tag team with a dedicated tag finisher and then there should be guys with risky finishers that can backfire or have different levels of potency. Of course to go with the wrestler using a DQ finisher there needs to be at least one manager who has a mini chart on the back. Oh and someone with an add 1 move too. Would be great if Tom put a mini report from one his favourite cards in his fed history to give a reader a flavour of the booking, in sight to possible belt names, match types, event and a venue. Just to immerse them in the whole GWF saga. With part of the show being a mini interview with say Johnny Rocket on the Launching Pad or Qualitar. Just to make a buyer think wow there’s even talk shows in this game!!!

With this in mind my picks would be ...

Mandrill (first card for the DQ finisher)
Pollux (just to show everyone is not stacked)
Mayhem (for the risk finisher)
Buck Steele (for that incredible possibility of transforming to Genocide)
Superiority Complex (have that roll finisher and a just a fantastic show of how tag teams should be. Not super strong as singles guys but put them together and the sum is so much greater than it’s parts)


Ms. Liberty (to showcase that there are popular Earth wrestlers in the fed and can then give the nice story with Adam Blast and eventual break up. Gets the whole Cygnus-Earth rivalry in too)
Maxine Babe (for the glamour)

Manager. Tough one but maybe Doomsayer (but needs a chart). I love the fact he really showcase the future with his twisted genius, the transevolver and has a non human appearance. Got to be non human in the pack

My thoughts but It is so tough to singles out characters when there are so many good ones

Amazonia and Thrash for the women. Lots of great women over the years but the great feud seems wisest.

Wrestlers
Lets go to a few different eras

Classic Age-Spike 91. More than any card, this is the oen that got me in the game
00s-Max Shield. He was one of the first to show different things you can do in the game.
10s-Bloodline. To show the continuation with a child of a superstar. Also one of the most fun and twisted storylines and works well as a hero or a villain.
20s-Hector.....for what seemed to be a minor character at first, he did so many crazy things.
Modern Age-Godsend. He's been manipulating things for years.

Here are some of my favorites from what I've seen.

Vengeance- An ex-con and he did plan a kill on Massacre. If there are other Gladiators then Vengeance can show that Aethrans are not 100% loyal to their cause.

Harbringer (2127)- He brought the Black Death to GWF, and it caused disarray. If Harbringer does show up, then he will need to be accompanied by 2 members of Black Death to showcase the Black Death mechanic, but I think it would be a price worth paying. It can help teach the concept of continuity to a federation.

Sly Drury- A western outlaw turned commissioner, he's turned the GWF on its head so many times, and I am a fan of him.

Paganax- The Heathen War Chief, a man who has the power to command armies. Paganax can be a fun character to have for any federation.

Star Slayer- Personally, I love how bad to the bone he is, and I love the idea of an alternate reality. This can be a good way to showcase the Future Shock storyline without going overboard.

Thrash and Amazonia because of the great rivalry between the two.

1-2. Brute and Massacre 2095 SE cards. These were the two that got me interested in CotG and keep coming back. Those are the best versions of both cards over the years.
3. Spike 2091. Growing up the hottest feud I had going on was the long wars between Spike and Wolf. I believe giving newcomers some of the greatest rivalries is a great idea to get them hooked.
4. Chaos 2096. Chaos had such a great run and presence as a third faction to rival Star Warrior and Thantos.
5. Endgame 2119 or Monolith 2122. This is a toss up for me because both of these wrestlers had such a impact in my fed. I would have gone with BD Endgame as that was the best heel turn in all of GWF history.

For the women:
* Amazonia is an obvious choice, especially with Wolf in the game. My other vote goes to...
* Supernova. Let’s get Omega’s whole family in there.

For the men:
* Mayhem 2091. I thought he was a better match for feuding with Wolf than Spike was, plus his LEAP OF DOOM was revolutionary and we just got Spike ‘88 in color.
* Chaos 2092. Another revolutionary figure, which means we would need...
* Alpha Force 2093. He would look amazing in color..
* Pegasus 2101(?). His upgraded card that brought him to the main event scene.
* Bloodline 2109(?). To complete Omega’s family.
