In the end, they're doing the set to attract new players, so having a bunch of people just because they don't have color cards yet isn't the most sensible idea. A spread of names through various periods in case they want to start at 87, 19, 25 or even more now makes the most sense.

There's plenty of great cards you could have in the set!
Since I only got up to 2117, here's my top 5 to include:
Star Warrior (the upgrade (2091?) that looks like Larry Zybyzko);
Splatter (the upgrade in 2096(?) WITH Lottery Chart);
Alpha Force (the first Larry Snelly Special Edition card);
Chaos (also Snelly's);
Thantos 2087 (THE classic)!
Also, kind of like with Birthday Bash, have some drafts or art not included in other sets (kind of like that bald Mayhem that Carter drew, haha)!
Have a surprise like an old "Promoter only" card included (like Bust Up or the original "Draconian Sheik") since these haven't been available in about two decades!
That's all that I can think of for now, thanks for asking for feedback!

Star Warrior (2091) Splatter (the upgrade in 2096 WITH Lottery Chart); Alpha Force (the first Larry Snelly Special Edition card); Chaos (also Snelly's); Thantos 2087 (THE classic)! Super solid list, add THUNDER and it's down right perfect.

Mandrill (if not Mandrill then Max Shield -- have to have a representative from this era) Vengeance (if i am not mistaken, first +1 move in the GWF) Pegasus (Project Pegasus!!!) Monolith (Com'on, I mean it's Monolith!) Anarchy (two part finisher!)
Amazonia Thrash
Best Women of All Time...nuff said.
Manager: Doomsayer - add stats and he would be a lot of fun to use.
I would love to say Colossus, but his story of "opening the GWF to cyborgs" really didn't play out (at least not until the 3000's) so anyone who would him and expect to see more cyborgs would be a bit disappointed.
I know this goes beyond the ask, but I would say that tag teams should be included...Superiority Complex and New Order - Snelly drawn and fantastic cards!

I feel like you have to include the Matador, Chaos and Spike. But that's 6 people from the 1st 6 sets. I agree with Mike about repping different card types. Maybe I put way too much thought into this but here we go.
Chaos 2095 -first card of its kind Max Shield 2100 -first card of it's kind. Reps the 00s and adds balance Encubus or Bloodline - to show lineage Endgame or Monolith - to rep the 20s Star Slayer - showcase the multiverse. Easiest since Star Warrior is included Godsend- current figure head
As for the women, Thrash, the best from the past and Phantasy or She-Devil or whoever the consensus best of now

Hmmmm, let's see....
Commissioner Carter (2092) New Order (2094) Enigma (2109 with new art that fits the description in the book) Max Shield (2111 preferred but 2100 will work also) Sly Drury (2122)
Amazonia (2111) Thrash (2115)

Wow, I love these thoughtful and enthusiastic comments. There's no doubt that you guys are the greatest game fans in the galaxy!
I want to reiterate that this starter set is intended for new buyers and curiosity seekers and also a way that I personally want to celebrate my achievement of writing 50 game editions. It's been a regular ritual for me for over 30 years and I still never tire of it (wait till you see 2136, you'll see!)
The best I can compare it to is a greatest hits album that also features some cool bonus features like a some remixed tracks and a new song or two. In addition a handbook that traces the history of the band or artist.
I've kept track of your comments and suggestions and have incorporated them into my own thinking. I couldn't be more excited and my goal is a starter set that celebrates the game and shows off our decades of awesomeness and continued success. We have done something special and I want the world to know it.
Thanks for joining me in this celebration and please keep the comments coming! I hope you'll find enough in this new starter set to want it as a beloved part of your COTG collection. Perhaps it's what YOU will also show someone that hasn't yet purchased the game but wonders about that wild game hobby of yours!
I'll share more info as this project moves along. Then there's 2136 (along with our continued updates of 2090 and beyond). This will be a year to remember...and they all will be as long as I'm around to keep this spaceship flying at hyper speed towards infinity! (and Infinity Plex)
To conclude, as my friend Stan would say, "Excelsior!"
