What about AEW new women's champion Nyla Rose ? Any thoughts ? Personally I would of preferred Kris Statlander as the women champion ?

Just in my opinion compared to WWE NXT Roh impact Shimmer I think this is where AEW needs the most help. Statlander is for sure the best.

Yeah I think they have talent but there burying that talent for very questionable decisions.
I get RIHO is the young prodigy but I dont buy her being able to beat the best there is. If i was gonna make a comparison i would have put her in that Pulsar territory from GWF 2087. And i guess to agree with Jim Cornette there is a weird Japanese school girl thing going on.
You got Statlander, you got Britt Baker and the Shida lady looks decent. I would have put the title on Baker and built her up as opposed to what they have done. Baker/Statlander would have been a great start to the division.

The problem is that they didn't get Mercedes Martinez to sign a contract when they had her. She was probably the only free agent they had access to that could have carried basically everyone in this division to a good match.
I already know what's going to be said about Nyla if this thread goes much further and I'll just say this: Nyla's a better worker than Riho, actually has personality, can actually talk and has a clear character. The joshi talent AEW has access to is great, but great matches aren't going to matter if you have to do subtitled promos like the one with Riho where she said something to the effect of "Britt is a good person" despite Britt being a gigantic douchebag on TV. There are a lot of things from Japan that don't work in the US, that promo style is it.
As for Statlander, it's very rare to see someone in a match with Jessicka Havok where Havok isn't the worst wrestler in the ring...and that's how I'd describe their match at AAW's Windy City Classic. She's very good athletically but I don't think the gimmick is going to work with her as the top babyface in the division but at this point...she's the de facto top babyface.
The whole division has been a mess. It's clear Kenny doesn't know what he's doing in the same way that the Bucks don't know what they're doing. Every aspect of the show feels like someone else booked it, it really does feel like you're watching three different shows and that's not a good thing. They need to get one person over everything and they need to do it quickly and they should probably have the last name Rhodes.

There aren’t too many options in their division right now. They shouldn’t have let Mercedes slip away. Bad decision. The title match was way better than I expected (or it should’ve been)Wednesday tho. I think they needed a change from Riho. Nyla might carry the load until they either get someone new to dethrone her or get her over enough with the fans to feud w Britt Baker and give her the strap.

I'd like to see Statlander beat Rose for the title, and then lose it to Baker. Can you imagine the good doctor's championship winning promo in a post match interview with Tony Schiavone?

Jim Cornette sums up a lot of our thoughts on his latest drive thru podcast. They've kind of dropped the ball on the womens division and what they should have done is book Nyla stronger and play up certain elements.
Kind of on same topic, I also agree with his points on the records. Rankings are fine but I think showing peoples win loss is kind of hurting some people like Nyla

Someone can have a losing record overall, but still be undefeated this year. Makes them look good because they've been on a winning streak lately.
