Why is DK II ‘s head slipping into another dimension? Yeah, looks like I am sliding in from Dimension X or Y...and man, I try so hard to keep my interdimensional travel capabilities concealed... So, this was the year (1997) that I showed up later on Saturday because Hurricane Danny was threatening coming in on the Gulf Coast (I was stationed in Biloxi, MS at the time) on Friday and all flights out were cancelled. Luckily, the Saturday early flight were able to go, so I got out, and was able to hang out half of Saturday and all Sunday to keep my then streak of going to GalactiCon alive. It was my 4th in a row and the streak went to 8 in 2001, before I was re-assigned to Great Falls, MT where the $cost$ and miles to get there became a bit much. And the "Bogus" Pete is part of my GalactiCon memories. My trip was actually mentioned in the GWF Files, however it incorrectly says that I out ran a Hurricane headed to Nebraska (that would have been one hell of a feat and an even bigger weather phenomenon!) The "Bogus" nickname (a blatant borrowing (yeah, more like rip-off) from the Bogus Sting nWo storyline) was given to me because the "real" Pete would would never have left his wife and 2 young boys on the Gulf Coast with a hurricane bearing down on it. Luckily, the storm made landfall in Alabama and it wasn't bad at all in Biloxi...just decent rainfall.

GalactiCon Memories:
1994 - the first year I went - was stationed in Plattsburgh, NY and made the 8 hours "scenic" drive with the wife and oldest who was 18 months or so. One of my best friends from CA who I played the game with actually made the trip out as well, he and his wife made an east coast swing in conjunction with coming to Jamestown and GalactiCon. It was awesome FINALLY meeting the "Creator" and all of the guys I had exchanged "mail" with over the years...plus it was the first time I had ever played the game with anyone other my best friends back home...it was great. (Oh yeah, the main reason my wife agreed to going was because we spent the next week in Niagara Falls - a little quid-pro-quo.)
1997 - (see previous post on the "Bogus" Pete story...)
1998 - 2001 - these are great memories because it they are the "road-trip" years when the boys and I made the 2+ day drive from Biloxi, MS to Jamestown, NY. The first year we didn't do much other than drive straight up and back, but the next few years we planned stops along and went to places like the NASA Space and Missile Center (the home of Space Camp) in Huntsville, AL; the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY; stopping to see good friends in Cincinnati, OH; King Island theme park, in OH, multiple Reds games, touring "Jacobs Field", eating breakfast on the shore of Lake Erie, the boys playing COTG Minis in the back seat on the drive...GREAT STUFF!
I don't remember the year...but Toaster Boy's comedy show - that was fantastic!
2016 - Another Road Trip, but this time with the daughter from St. Louis to Philadelphia. Had a blast sight-seeing with everyone on Friday and then she "relaxed" in the breakfast area of the hotel all day because she didn't want to toss the bones (and 4 hours of RoH was a bit too much for her.) Sunday we went to the "State Pen" to tour Capone's cell, along with the the Museum of Art, and catching the an MLS game. We also stopped at Penn State and Ohio State to tour the campuses on our way home. More Great Stuff!
For me, GalactiCon is about throwing the dice, seeing getting a chance to catch up with everyone (the latter of which is the best part), and the time I get to spend with my wife and kids making memories.
