To take a further step in mapping out my alternate timeline AVALONVERSE, I picked up History maker Baseball starting with the 1980 set. In this timeline a cheating/gambling scandal (kind of like what happened with the Astros) broke out within the MLB higher ups and the league went bankrupt due to fan support diminishing. Magnus Colbys ancestor had started a television network CBN in the late 70s and was looking for programming. He bought up a couple territories and formed the LAW in January 1980. Seizing the opportunity I’m adding he picked up the rights to baseball and 24 of the 26 teams and added that to his programming starting May 1980.
I am hoping to get the game this week and hope to kick it off as soon as possible. I already got my spreadsheets going, schedule is in place and divisions. I did clean things up and in possible blasphemy not including the California Angels or Chicago White Sox (mainly cause it eases my pain making schedules with 24 teams). There will be a fantasy draft with everything starting fresh.
i do play on having some fun crossovers as I’d like to see say Pete Rose show up on wrestling or maybe Curt Hennig throwing the first pitch for the twins. I know I’m crazy but I’m really digging this separate timeline thing I’ve created.

History Maker Baseball is a great game. I like how you can see in each at bat the things that are important to the result. Basically you roll the dice and you check a series of questions (is the pitcher "fresh", is the hitter a "slugger" or "eager", is the umpire "questionable", who is the home team, etc.). These questions will branch to give you the play result. I like all PLAAY games. I think their wrestling game (Face to the Mat) is a great federation simulator. I aways wanted to use Filsinger's match resolution and PLAAY's fed resolution, but am too busy (haha or maybe lazy).
Your idea sound cool, good luck!

I have a copy of Face To The Mat that I have never played. There's some good resources in there if you wanted to develop a wrestling federation sim whilst using the Filsinger system to run matches.
There's certainly a lot of options there, just turned out not being for me.

I saw that Joe but I didn't want to spend more money and I kind of like what I got going with my wrestling federation. I almost went football but I noticed you get teams instead of players. I might pick up Hockey some day but will see how this goes.
I still have a LONG way to go to catch up with my LEGENDS and CHAMPIONS federations too lol

I almost went football but I noticed you get teams instead of players PLAAY's football game Second Season comes with team cards but the players are rated not the team as a whole. They do it that way because when you run a play it will tell you to check one or more players ratings and that format let's you do it quickly. You could move players around teams and the depth chard is there in case of injuries.

Played the first game of the new league last night, Red Sox hit a three run homer in the sixth to beat my Orioles. It was pretty fun, a lot of stat keeping.
I’m focusing on catching up my champions era wrestling fed as I only just got to Alpha Force, I’d like to see myself catch baseball up to my legends fed (just getting to 1986) but I also just enjoy playing things out in this alternate timeline. Curt Hennig and his dad Larry are in the crowd for the Twins home opener

Kind of in a weird side note, it’s funny how much I’ve really run with this Alternate Timeline concept ... I have my filsinger games stuff set there, I have this baseball game now set their but since I play a lot of role playing games online with the wife I also set them in this universe.
I have a folder on my desk called CBN (Colby Broadcast Network) And incorporated all the role playing games I play into this timeline. In this reality, George Lucas made three Star Wars movies and then turned to TV. My buddy runs a Star Wars game and I included that as a tv show on this network. We play a bunch of D&D and other games and I include them as “TV shows” in this timeline on the CBN network. And yes as a crazy Mandela effect believer I am going to have some of that stuff in here as well. Sinbad will Star in a movie about a genie and Nelson Mandela will die in captivity.
Tying this back to Filsinger games, it’s great in these crazy times to be able to escape to a safe place where you can stop thinking about bad stuff and have some adventure. I love playing out the WHAT IF scenarios as a student of history, how will things play out in this timeline ... no one knows except the DICE ...

All Plaay games are amazing. Keith Avallone has mastered the art of building a level of narrative into a sports sim. I own and play History Maker Baseball, History Maker Golf, Face To The Mat, Roller Rumble, Red White & Blue Racing, Second Season Express and Demo Derby Smashdown. All are immersive and fun.

Sorry I know it's an old thread. Must agree with the last comment. Keith is brilliant in making sports I wouldn't really consider following or playing interesting. I actually really love Bowl-O-rama. I wouldn't think I would ever be interested in a tenpin bowling game but it's pretty addictive. I enjoy the participant mode and we even ordered the plaay mat.
Face to the Mat is good too. COTG will always be my first love but it's a very good wrestling sim with some cool characters. The cards are done nicely with the clip art being interesting way of presenting a character. Really wish I had time to play this properly too. But I play the odd card here and there. You can get some very strange twists from the highlights reel. It's a shame i missed the anniversary edition about a year ago as they done colour cards for 80s character set included. They would of been good to have but it was only a one off.
