GSW 126 - Prime Time Wrestling featuring matches from Cow Palace, San Francisco, CA.
The show opened with Bobby Heenan proclaiming that ‘tonight is the night that King Harley Race assumes his rightful position upon the throne of Golden State Wrestling when he defeats Randy Savage for the Western Heavyweight Championship.’
Monsoon retorted that it would not going to be that simple and threw to word from the Macho Man himself.
In a promo, Randy Savage admitted that Harley Race was not slouch in the ring, but ‘The Maddness’ would not be denied and he would finish the night as Champion.
We then went ringside for our opening bout.
MR. PERFECT had some troubles but was eventually able to beat Johnny Rodz with the PERFECT PLEX. Not sure what it is with Johnny Rodz but he seems to have Perfect’s number. 3
Monsoon asked Heenan why Mr. Perfect seemed to have so much trouble against Johnny Rodz. Heenan said Perfect was just boosting Rodz’ self esteem by letting him think he’s a better wrestler than he is.
THE MOONDOGS easily handled The Bushwhackers when Moondog Spot covered Bushwhacker Butch after the MOONDOG SPLASH. Many fans were assuming there’d be more of a brawl between these two teams but Referee Dick Woehle kept a tight lid on the action. 2
Next, we cut to a promo from King Harley Race. Race talks history. How he is the greatest Western Heavyweight Champion in Golden State Wrestling’s history. He’s defended the title more than any other champion and he aims to ‘reclaim what is his’ so he can continue to write the legacy that is King Harley Race.
ROWDY RODDY PIPER put Kenny Jay out with the SLEEPER and touched all four corners in a Chain Match. Fans knew that Jay would have an uphill battle in this one but many were surprised that he lasted as long as he did and even touched two of the four corners on his way to a possible victory at one point. In the end, Piper stood tall over a bloody Sodbuster. 3
We came back from commercial to a match between Dynamite Kid and Barry Windham already in progress.
DYNAMITE KID scored a DQ victory over Barry Windham when Blackjack Mulligan interfered in what was a fantastic match. A brawl erupted after the bell and all four men had to be separated by security. Fans are eager for the next meeting between Western Tag Champs The Outlaws and The British Bulldogs. And many fans want to see a rematch between Dynamite Kid and Barry Windham! 4
In the Main Event, KING HARLEY RACE used the PILEDRIVER to layout Randy “Macho Man” Savage and become the new Western Heavyweight Champion. As referee James Beard awarded Race the title, Bobby Heenan told the crowd to bow to their rightful king. Not many did. 3

- Perfect over Rodz (No surprise, but "The Unpredictable" Rodz giving Hennig fits? Is there a chink in the Perfect armor?)
- Moondogs over Bushwhackers (The fact that Dick Woehle kept control is the biggest surprise here.)
- Piper over Kenny Jay (Kenny Jay's GoFundMe is now live and accepting donations.)
- Dynamite over Windham by DQ (When the blow-off comes, it should be awesome.)
- Race over Savage for the Western Hwt Title (LONG LIVE THE KING!!!)
Question? Are you retconning to say that the GSW titles were always Western Championships or were they World Titles that have been renamed with the advent of the Memphis Territory? Just curious given Race's mention of being the greatest Western Champion, though a thought Savage was the first to be referred to a Western instead of World.

Truthfully, I just made a note on Randy Savage’s entry in the title history saying the name of the title was changed to the Western Heavyweight Championship. No big statement or anything. Not even a mention from Commissioner Patrick. . Just a renaming. I do have plans for a ‘World’ title but that’ll come much later.

Card 127 from Golden State Studios, Burbank, CA
Ted DiBiase used a gut wrench suplex to put away Lanny Poffo in a great opening match. Poffo had DiBiase's number a few times but was not able to put him away. The crowd was hoping for an upset! ★★★
Sam Houston delivered the upset fans were looking for when he pinned Tully Blanchard after rolling through a cross body! Fantastic match here! Houston is showing, week after week, why Golden State Wrestling was stupid for letting him go after Wrestlemania. Bobby Heenan was furious Houston made Blanchard look like a fool. ★★★★
Hillbilly Jim scored a big victory over Adrian Adonis with a big lariat! Adonis has been floundering since Jimmy Hart left. He needs to find some direction and focus soon. ★★★
The Dream Team had some trouble with Johnny Rodz & George South but Greg Valentine was finally able to hit Rodz with a belly to back suplex to get the win. Johnny Valiant was a bit perturbed with his team's performance. ★
Gordon Solie Interview Guests: Western Heavyweight Champion Harley Race & Bobby Heenan Gordon Solie asked who Race's first opponent would be and Heenan got insulted. "Let the man have his moment, he just won the title and you're already talking about defenses!" Solie said a fighting champion would take on all comers.
This perturbed Race who started advancing on Solie! Randy Savage ran out to save Solie and demanded his rematch! Heenan said he could have a match but it'd be non-title!
Main Event GSW Television Championship Match Jim Duggan uses the FLYING SPEAR to take down The Spoiler and become the new GSW Television Champion! The match was incredible and the crowd was nuts for Duggan and his victory! ★★★

No one could possibly expect that Macho Man was going to take dropping the belt gracefully... Looking forward to the rematch between him and Race, even if the gold isn't on the line... A very wise demand by Heenan, if you ask me.
Hacksaw winning the TV title gets the crowd on its feet... HOOOOOOO!

Some great action there. I'm predicting a dastardly gang attack on Savage in the non-title match to maybe injure him and prevent him coming after Race, at least for the foreseeable. The Dream Team should hang their heads in shame. I watched that and although they won it was a lousy performance.

Card 128 from Golden State Studios, Burbank, CA!
The British Bulldogs (w/ Captain Lou Albano) took out Johnny Rodz & George South when Dynamite Kid covered Johnny Rodz after a cross body block. Rodz and South put up a decent fight but they were no match for the Bulldogs. ★★
King Kong Bundy (w/ Bobby Heenan) picks up a DQ victory over Kenny Jay when Jay smashes Bundy with a chair at ringside. Bundy went after Jay after the bell but Jay ran like hell from ringside. DUD
The Powers of Pain (w/ Mr. Fuji) used an ELEVATED CLOTHESLINE to beat The Killer Bees. The Warlord covered Jumping Jim Brunzell. ★
Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage made short work of Jake Milliman with a FLYING ELBOW SMASH. SQUASH
After the match, Bill Apter asked Savage if he was disappointed that his upcoming match with Harley Race would be Non-Title. Savage said no because he’s looking forward to proving he can be race without the title on the line so there’ll be no question he can beat him when it is.
In a Texas Death Match, The Moondogs beat The Bushwhackers when Moondog Spot covered Bushwhacker Butch after a MOONDOG SPLASH. ★★★

Love that you’ve got regional feds going on now this is Golden State Wrestling. Am guessing GSW is still considered the biggest. Do you plan to have champions of each territory face each other in the future and have an overall World champion or keep them separate? Or maybe the GSW champion tour the other feds from time to time?
