Guilty Party presents Benchmark Wrestling
From the Santa Ana Star Center, in Rio Rancho New Mexico
The show opened with the debut match for The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast. Brian Myers and Matt Cardona took on the bWo duo of Nova and the Blue Meanie. Myers and Cardona got an impressive victory when The Prince of Queens hit Meanie with a high cross body block off the top rope. After securing the pinfall, Myers and Cardona pantomimed the championship belts around their waists, sending a clear signal they are gunning for the Amazing French Canadians’ titles.
Back from the break and we see Television champion Tully Blanchard arrive in his limo. Backstage interviewer Chrissy E. approached the champion and informed him he was scheduled to defend the title against “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan tonight, much to Blanchard’s distress.
In the ring, “The Franchise” Shane Douglas took on The Patriot. Douglas got the victory with a belly to belly suplex for the pinfall in a quick match.
Next up was an episode of Val Venis’ “Casting Couch” interview show. Val’s guest was Konnan. Konnan came to the ring to a thunderous ovation, but Val immediately went about taking the piss out of Konnan. Venis mocked Konnan’s status as number one contender for the World title, and the way Konnan won that spot in a battle royal. It looked like Konnan was about ready to slap the taste out of Venis’ mouth, when Kip James of the Blond Bombers came out. James, who accidentally helped Konnan eliminate Nick Bockwinkle from the number one contender battle royal, told Konnan that he was out of his depth, and should just surrender his title shot to Bockwinkle. Konnan responded by slapping James right across the face.
Back from the break, the interview set has been cleared and we have Konnan vs Kip James. Kip almost got the win with the Cobra Clutch slam, with Konnan just getting his foot on the ropes. Konnan battled back and picked up the win after a belly to belly suplex
Next, Brian Armstrong, accompanied by his brother and partner Brad, took on one half of the tag team champions The Amazing French Canadians, Pierre Carl Ouellet. While Pierre took on the younger Armstrong, his partner Jacques Rougeau took to the broadcast table joining Larry MacLeod and Melina for commentary. Brian won with a pump handle slam. The night got worse for the champs, as Melina announced that next week a six team gauntlet match would be held to determine the next challenger to their titles!
The semi-main event was next, and world champion Big Van Vader is in action taking on Justin Credible. Vader completely dominates the Impact Player, hitting a front slam and two powerbombs to get the quick victory.
After a quick break, Vader is still in the ring. With mic in hand, Vader addressed the number one contender situation. He addressed the Blond Bombers, stating that Nick Bockwinkle had had his shot at the Mastodon and failed. He said Konnan had earned his shot and would get it at the next pay per view, “Unsettled”. But, though it was Konnan’s shot it would not be Konnan’s time, because IT’S VADER TIME!
It was then time for the main event as Tully Blanchard defended the television championship against “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. About halfway through the match, Duggan was punishing Blanchard with a series of Tough Guy clotheslines, when Blanchard’s allies The Long Riders came down to ring side. With Hog distracting the referee, Wild Bill climbed into the ring and helped Tully hit Duggan with a spiked piledriver. Blanchard made the cover as the referee turned back around, but shockingly, Duggan got a foot on the ropes! The match continued, and both men were bloody and exhausted by the end, when Blanchard used his slingshot suplex to finally put Duggan away. After the match, the Long Riders climbed into the ring a proceeded to beat Duggan down with the superplex and the float kick. Duggan required medical assistance to leave the ring.
