 R.I.P. Edgar “Gemini” Porter of the popular duo Men At Large Men at Large was one of most beloved R&B's acts of the 1990s. And while he may not have been there during the group’s halcyon days, Edgar “Gemini” Porter found surprise and pleasing success in the duo’s revival in the past decade. Today, we say a sad and too-early goodbye to Porter, one half of a latter day version of Men at Large. Discovered by the late Gerald Levert, Cleveland-based Men at Large was formed by singers Dave Tolliver and Jason Champion, and, with help of Ohio friend Gerald Levert, the group was signed by EastWest Records and issued a self titled album in 1992. The disc was a hit, featuring the top 10 single, “Use Me,” and the duo, humorously named for the plus size of its members, was off and running. Men at Large followed two years later with One Size Fits All, and issued their signature song, the ballad “So Alone,” which became a huge pop and R&B hit. Men at Large’s recording success faded in the 90s, and the duo split. Champion went on to successfully record gospel music, but reformed the group with Porter, finding surprise success again in 2016 with the top 20 hit, “Date Night.” |

I met Mira once at GenCon, she signed a Minbari head piece for me, though I no longer have that. She was truly a beauty. RIP.
