Yes, I remember the scenario that Gunslinger describes. However, when the Brainbusters beat Demolition for the tag belts on SNME, wasn't one of the falls a DQ? At some point, things changed so that the *deciding* fall must be a pin or submission, something that I believe Jesse pointed out during that match, around when the 3rd fall began. Which I think is much, much better. Chalk it up to the WWF Rules Committee changing things after the Bulldogs-Harts match. This is the rule that's held consistent since--the Hart Foundation beating Demolition at SummerSlam '90 for the titles also had a DQ in an earlier fall, as did Austin beating Dustin Rhodes for the U.S. belt. Flair & Arn beat the Hollywood Blonds in a tag title match in 2 straight in Flair's WCW return, but the second fall was a DQ so no title change there. Edit: Of course in Mexico, where they run 2/3 fall matches more than anyone, and in Japan, there's none of this silliness because whoever wins, wins the title, period. Titles change on DQs, countouts, and everything else just like in boxing.

Go point out your rule inconsistencies some place else! I agree with the interpretation that both falls should be clean for a title to change hands. I think the "one fall is a DQ" schmozz is how Carpentier beat Thesz for a NWA World title claim. If someone was going to split their fed into two feds, this would be a good way to do it. One promotion recognizes the new champ and the other one continues the old lineage.

Indeed. I think there were a few of those around that time especially when they wanted to take the title off someone without them being pinned or submitted.

How do you feel about someone winning two falls clean but loses by dq in fall? In my Legends Federation ,I had certain rules regarding Best Two Out of Three Falls Title Matches depending on geographical location of the match ! Historically each state/federation/region had different rules. Its on this forum somewhere but from what I recall : North- Any two needed but title change could be overruled by the promoter ! South & Japan- Two pins/escapes needed to win title ,no exceptions ! East- Two results of any type to win title- a DQ Final Fall win would lead to a cage rematch for the vacant title or title rematch. West- Any two to win but title change could be nullified by promoter. The location represent the federations operating in those regions at the time : North= AWA & Canada South & Japan= NWA/WCW/JAPAN East=WWF/WWE West=NWA/AWA/World Class

Also, following on from some great discussions on here recently, it would be fun to see some ideas of how to set up/manage a fed,' kind of a 'hints n tips or suggestions page. I'd love to see this too. Might make an interesting thread here as well.

I have a serious question. What rules do we need to list for a two out of three falls match? I use some basic rules. - Fatigue tokens carry over between falls.
- There is a 30 second rest period between falls, allowing the wrestler on defense to rest and catch his breath; after each fall, the aggressor starts out on Level 2 Offense (against the same opponent, if during a tag match) to begin the next fall.
- Manager interference, PIN saves, etc. refresh for every fall.
In best two of three matches I usually had each fall have different rules. Example: Fall 1- Normal rules Fall 2- No DQ or Count-out Stipulation , maybe No Allies Allowed stip. Fall 3- Usually No DQ oe Titan/Texas Death Match. Something special for final fall. For Pin Rules, I have used basic rule pin in 1st fall, advanced pin rule in 2nd fall, cage rule in 3rd fall . The different pin rules can be swapped in any order. For Fatigue: Doesn't the rule state three tokens are assumed to cause bleeding? I have always used this. If not a bloody cut ; a bruise, a muscle strain , or damage would be assumed. Fatigue tokens are usually carried over to next fall if that fall is not staggered. A decrease of one could be used if the best of 3 match falls are not consecutive. In tournaments, three to five Fatigue tokens in a round means the wrestler starts the next round with a +1 added to pin rating.A doctor could treat the injury but not good enough. Also a co-main event would always happen between the Semi-Finals & Finals.

On the occasions I did best of 3 falls, would sometimes use basic pin rolls in fall one then finished the other falls with fatigue. I would flip flop a bit though an use tokens for all falls in tag matches. Back in my early b/w fed, I had a best of five falls match for the top singles title once and the winner won 3-1, losing only fall by DQ (Bockwinkel with Heenan over Bastien). Nick retained and it was not close after their first match wound up a draw. Boxkwinkel also won an Iron Man Match 4-0 as I called the match since his opponent had maxed his PIN, and just stopped the match. Funny but think the victim was Snuka but it was also from B/w days.
